Secular Immortal of the Nine Realms Chapter 1: I’ve Once Met a Fairy

The Great Xia Country was a grade-9 state, but their crushing defeat to the Greenpine Country at the Three Realms Mountain had greatly weakened them. Many unfair clauses were imposed on them, resulting in widespread unhappiness amongst the people.

From the nobles and officials down to the civilians, there was one person they cursed and swore at—the young master of General Fang Manor, Fang Chen!

Five years ago, Fang Chen had become the number one expert of Great Xia despite only being eighteen years of age. He was a brilliant strategist excelling in offense, and he had never tasted defeat since becoming a commander. As such, he was known as the Great Xia’s War God.

Yet, 600,000 of the 800,000 soldiers Fang Chen had brought to the Three Realms Mountain to attack the Greenpine Country had died. He even had his eyes blinded and his ki sea destroyed, thus reducing him to a cripple.

In the majestic General Manor, a young man with sharp eyebrows quietly gazed at the sky. He still gave off a faint air of enigma that made it hard for one to see through him.

In truth, he could hardly see anything at all with his grayish-white eyes.

Five years ago, he had led his army to subdue the Greenpine Country’s First Wolf Marshall. It should have been an easy victory, but the tables were turned when the Greenpine Country brought in an expert from a grade-8 country to ambush him.

He was defeated. His ki sea was shattered, reducing him to a cripple.

As he teetered on the brink of death, he saw a fairy gazing upon a world amidst the blazing sun. The fairy saw him too, and a brilliant light enveloped him. Since then, he has been blind.

The First Wolf Marshall chose to let him go instead of killing him, saying, “You’ll know what it means to live a life worse than death once you return to the Great Xia. This will be the worst torture to you.”

And over the past five years, he had suffered loads of curses and humiliation. Those who used to be on good terms with him also avoided him as if he was venomous.

Translator Notes

The beginning is confusing to those who have never picked up a cultivation story before, so I’ll offer some quick context so that it makes more sense. If you’re still confused, feel free to drop something in the comment and hopefully I’ll see it and answer.

Quick context about martial artists

This is a supernatural world where martial artists can gather ki (natural energy from their surroundings) inside their body and use it for combat. How powerful a martial artist is depends on how much ki they can gather.

Quick context about Martial Cultivation

Martial artists start off with Ki Condensation, where they gather their ki inside a storage organ inside them called the ‘ki sea’. They are basically just accumulating ki to use for battle.
The second stage is Ki Explosion, where martial artists gain the ability to efficiently exert their ki in bursts, making them more formidable in combat.
The third stage is Ki Control, where martial artists gain finer control over their ki, which allows them to pull off more stunts in battle.
Last but not least, the fourth stage is Ki Manifestation, where martial artists can manifest all of the ki they have gathered into a single core, which increases their ki capacity and concentration (imagine having more and thicker energy to use)

And this is just the very start of being a martial artist. Those within these four stages fall under the category of Human Profound. Above that is Earth Profound and Heaven Profound.

If a person’s ki sea is destroyed, it would mean the person cannot accumulate ki and whatever ki he has stored there previously will be lost, which means he’s a goner as a martial artist.

Quick context about Cultivators (Daoists) and Astral Traveling/ Projection

If you have played RPGs before, you can think of cultivators as one job (e.g. mage) and martial artists as another job (e.g. warrior). There are some similarities, such as both use ki, but they develop in different directions.

Cultivators are people who train in hopes of becoming immortal. In contrast, daoists are people who embrace the ideology of daoism, and that results in most daoists being cultivators.

Cultivators are capable of special means, and one of them is astral projection. It involves temporarily separating the soul from the body, and allowing the soul to wander freely around without restraint.
