If the God-Conquering Merak Sword was the most powerful spear, the Godhead Aegis was the most powerful shield.

The sword was still stronger than the armor when they were directly compared, since the Godhead Aegis could only weaken rather than neutralize Divine Soul attacks, but when the sword wasn't present, hurting someone wearing the Godhead Aegis was extremely difficult.
