…
Even though Lu Jingyan sent him four consecutive messages, Sheng Xian didn’t reply at all. She managed to get back a bit of dignity after successfully getting his number, so she decided to be magnanimous and forgive him.
Lu Jingyan was preoccupied because of Sheng Xian and had barely worked, now that she was feeling better, she started to get busy.
Lu Jingyan was in the media industry and dealt with new media. With the support of the Lu family, she successfully pushed her website to the top in the industry.
The top searches made up the website’s biggest traffic.
It wasn’t an exaggeration to say all sorts of news, be it entertainment or current affairs, the sort that everyone knew to the obscure ones that no one heard about, were all in her company’s hands.
The skies were dark by the time she was done with her work. She glanced at the time on her phone and tapped into her text messages.
She sent out four texts but they all laid silently in her inbox without a response.
After half a minute, another two more texts appeared on the screen.
“Brother, have you eaten?”
“Brother, can I find your WeChat with this number?”
This time, it wasn’t just a lack of response, he didn’t even read the text.
Lu Jingyan copied his phone number and searched on WeChat, there was an account linked to his number. She sent a follower request and sent him another text, “Brother, I added you on WeChat, remember to accept it.”
After work, Lu Jingyan had dinner and went to the gym. It was 10.30pm by the time she reached home, and close to 12am by the time she showered and was ready for bed.
She tapped into her text app and saw that the texts were still unread.
After using her phone for around 10 mins, Lu Jingyan tapped into her text app again.
It was still unread.
Just as she was about to exit the app, the status changed to read.
Lu Jingyan raised her phone, and waited for about five minutes but there was still no reply.
He read the texts but didn’t reply.
Rude.
Lu Jingyan typed another text, “Brother, goodnight.”
Read but still no reply.
“Goodnight, brother.”
Message seen
“Brother, sweet dreams.”
“Brother sweet dreams.”
“Brother.”
“Brother.”
“Brother.”
“……”
Aside from the first text Sheng Xian had sent out, it was radio silence. He didn’t even accept her WeChat request.
Young Lady Lu wasn’t angry at his lack of response and would send him texts whenever she had time.
The days passed as usual and soon, it was a new week.
On Tuesday, a popular girl group was going to her office for a live stream event.
Lu Jingyan didn’t have to personally oversee such matters so she didn’t pay much attention.
The live stream was at 3pm, and would end at 4.30pm.
At this hour, Lu Jingyan went to the second floor to find the public relation director. After they were done, she went to the washroom and just as she flushed the toilet, a flushing noise came from the cubicle beside her. At the same moment, the two cubicle doors were pushed open.
Lu Jingyan’s attention shifted to the strong perfume scent, and she casually eyed the person beside her.
That person turned around as well, probably because of the noise.
Their eyes met.
Lu Jingyan saw the shock in that person’s eyes.
Lu Jingyan remained calm, and was even a little cold, it was as though she had just seen a stranger.
That person stared at her, while Lu Jingyan turned away indifferently, walking towards the vanity counter.
After about thirty seconds, Lu Jingyan heard the sound of high heels hitting the floor, and soon, the person was beside her, turning on the tap.
The washroom was quiet other than the sound of flowing water from the tap.
Lu Jingyan washed her hands calmly, took out two napkins and dried her hands before turning to leave.
After taking just two steps, the person behind her called her, “Hey.”
Lu Jingyan didn’t turn.
That person called her again, “Lu Jingyan.”
Lu Jingyan stopped.
That person turned off the tap and walked over to face her with her hand outstretched, “It’s been a long time.”
Lu Jingyan was considered tall for a female and the person in front of her was a head shorter than her even though she was wearing 8cm high heels.
Lu Jingyan swept a glance at the outstretched hand and walked out without a word.
The person chuckled, her voice taunting, “Lu Jingyan, are you going to pretend you don’t know me?”
Lu Jingyan turned and walked back towards that person, “I’m not acting, you’re not qualified.”
When Lu Jingyan returned to her office, she stood in front of the window for a while before turning on her laptop.
She searched through the namelist of the girl group doing the live stream and found that person’s name.
Bo Mu.
…
Lu Jingyan, Songxian and Chen Kai had a chat group and would gather to meet almost everyday.
They would usually meet somewhere Chen Kai picked, but this past week, something was amiss, the chatterbox Chen Kai was unusually silent.
When it was about time to knock off, Lu Jingyan asked in the chat where they would gather tonight.
Song Xian @ Chen Kai.
There wasn’t any response from Chen Kai.
Lu Jingyan tapped his name and tapped his WeChat account to give him a call.
No one picked up so she continued to call him.
…
It was only after his phone stopped vibrating did Chen Kai tap into WeChat.
At the top of the screen was a reminder of the unsent text he had typed after giving her Sheng Xian’s address.
“Also, Yanyan, could you not mess with my cousin?”
“Why?”
…I’m afraid you would fall for him and hurt yourself.
