I'll Still Love You Tomorrow Chapter 45: It Was A Joke

Sheng Xian knelt down, he picked up the unfastened shoelaces and wiped off the mud with his sleeve before tying them into a pretty butterfly knot.

Lu Jingyan shrank her feet slightly.

She stared at the fastened knot, an indescribable feeling filled her heart.

After two seconds, she glanced up at Sheng Xian.

That feeling seemed to dissipate her anxiety and brought clarity to her brain.

Seeing her lack of response, he asked her again, “Are you alright?”

“Ah.” She exclaimed as she remembered her lack of decorum. She smiled, and replied, “Of course.”

Unwilling to stay on that topic, she changed the topic before Sheng Xian could speak, “Oh right, I just sent you a text. Didn’t I say I wanted to ask you something?”

Sheng Xian, “Mmh.”

“Mmh…” Lu Jingyan paused and randomly came up with something, “How do you pay the electric bills online? There doesn’t seem to be electricity.”

Sheng Xian looked at the mansion behind her, it was pitch dark but he wasn’t sure if it was really because there wasn’t electricity. He looked into her eyes and fell in a moment of silence before asking, “You ran out just to ask me that?”

“Mmh, yes.” Lu Jingyan nodded, “It’s to ask you about the electricity bills.”

In order to make it seem more convincing, Lu Jingyan added, “I don’t like the dark, I wouldn’t be able to sleep without any electricity.”

Sheng Xian was looking at her in silence.

Lu Jingyan returned his gaze for a while and realized there was something odd in the way he was looking at her. He seemed to be looking through her pretense.

Lu Jingyan tried to appear calm since he couldn’t read her mind after all.

They were stuck in a standstill, neither were willing to give in.

She blinked and decided to toss the question back at him, “Do…do you not know how to pay the bills?”

Sheng Xian, “...”

“Mmh, then can you unclog the toilet bowl?”

Seeing his lack of response, she “tsked” and appeared disappointed, “I guess Prof Sheng doesn’t know everything…”

“……”

Normally, when she started on her crazy antics, Sheng Xian would either turn to leave, unwilling to waste time squabbling with an elementary student, or he would explain a few lines with a headache.

But this time, he remained silent and continued to look at her, trying to see through her.

Lu Jingyan started to feel a strange sense of guilt, she pretended to be calm and cleared her throat as she reached for her phone emotionlessly, “Forget it, I will look for the property management.”

With that, she pointed towards his car, “It’s late, you should go back and rest.”

Sheng Xian watched as she pretended to find the management’s phone number and called out, “Lu Jingyan.”

Lu Jingyan looked up, “Ah?”

Sheng Xian tapped his wrist watch, “It’s off working hours.”

Lu Jingyan, “...Is it?”

She glanced at the time on her phone screen.

They were off work.

The security guard is the only one still on duty at such a late hour.

“It’s alright, I’ll call and ask Auntie Sun. She’s in charge of such things.”

Before Lu Jingyan could continue her pretense, Sheng Xian said calmly, “Lu Jingyan, she is probably asleep at this hour.”

“……”

Sheng Xian continued, “Do you think it’s appropriate to wake someone up at this late hour?”

“……”

Lu Jingyan didn’t think it was inappropriate since the electricity wasn’t cut off and she had no intention of calling Auntie Sun.

It was just an excuse but she couldn’t just tell him it was a joke.

Just as she was thinking of a way out, Sheng Xian interrupted her thoughts, “Let’s go.”

Lu Jingyan asked, “Where?”

“My house.”
