I'll Still Love You Tomorrow Chapter 44: Little Fish

No matter how much she changed, even if she seemed like someone completely different from before, she was still the gentle and kind Lu Jingyan.

Sheng Xian’s gaze turned gentle.

After about half a minute, he suddenly remembered the question he asked her the last time, “Did something happen to you in the past?”

She replied naturally, her expression was breezy and she didn’t seem to be lying.

But he knew something must have happened.

She used to be a gentle and untainted girl who spoke in a respectful manner. It was a stark contrast to the person she was now - coquettish, vulgar, cold, bad tempered, and filled with despondence.

Something bad must have caused such a change.

It was clear she didn’t like to talk about herself. Even though she seemed to tell him everything, as though she was chasing him, in reality, she wasn’t the least bit sincere.

She wasn’t unsociable.

She was trapped in her own prison, refusing to trust anyone.

Lu Jingyan pushed open the KFC door and the moment she came out, she saw Sheng Xian standing by the roadside. He was holding her bag, his long black trench coat amplifying his tall statue.

Seeing her walk out, Sheng Xian pulled open his car door, “Let’s go, I’ll send you back.”

Lu Jingyan entered his car, just as she was about to fasten her seatbelt, he had already done it for her.

Lu Jingyan moved towards the window and glanced up at the sky.

The sky was dark, no sign of the sun.

Sheng Xian started the car, and made a turn at the junction ahead.

The bar they were at was now on the other end.

When they passed the bar, Lu Jingyan suddenly remembered she hadn’t paid for the drinks. That was when she realized the reason Sheng Xian had so tenderly fastened her seatbelt for her.

Heh, man.

Can’t they be more direct?

Lu Jingyan turned towards him, “How much was it?”

Sheng Xian asked, “Mmh?”

“The money for the drinks.” Lu Jingyan reached for her bag and continued, “Prof Sheng, you can be more direct in the future, you don’t have to beat around the bush. If it was someone else, they might not know what you’re after.”

Sheng Xian glanced at her, “What am I after?”

“My money.” Lu Jingyan saw that he wasn’t willing to admit it so she added, “You fastened my seatbelt to remind me I haven’t paid you.”

Sheng Xian, “...”

Sheng Xian was silent for three seconds and suppressed his headache, “I’m not asking for money.”

“……”

Sheng Xian, “I’m feeding my fish.”

Lu Jingyan blinked.

“Are you stuffed? Little fish.”

“……”

“If it isn’t enough, should I feed you more?”

“……”

After ten minutes, the car stopped in front of Lu Jingyan’s house.

She said goodbye as if nothing had happened, and pushed open the car door very calmly.

Sheng Xian watched as she pushed open the door and stepped into the courtyard.

As the door closed, her figure disappeared from his view.

Sheng Xian stayed silent for a while before reaching for his phone.

Lu Jingyan followed the lights in the courtyard when her phone vibrated.

She reached for it, pressed the phone screen and saw two messages from Sheng Xian.

Sheng Xian, “I’m sorry.”

Sheng Xian, “Merry Christmas.”

Sorry….What was he sorry for?

Was he referring to the incident at the carpark?

He didn’t need to apologize, he wasn’t wrong that day.

Lu Jingyan stopped midway up the staircase staring at the screen for a long while before typing.

Lu Jingyan, “Oh.”

Lu Jingyan, “Merry Christmas.”

One second after she sent the message, it was midnight.

Lu Jingyan wasn’t competitive but today, she felt particularly vulnerable in front of him.

She hit on him first and yet, she was the one that caved first.

She misunderstood his intention and was left speechless.

She couldn’t behave in such a manner, it made her seem like a novice.

Lu Jingyan pondered for a moment before clicking into the screen again.

Lu Jingyan, “Brother, there’s something I want to ask you.”

Sheng Xian, “?”

….Can I find you in your dreams tonight?

The moment she finished typing, her phone vibrated several times.

The notification for a few incoming messages popped up.

It was a private message from a social networking app.

The unknown number that had disappeared since the day she fought with Bo Mu had reappeared.

Unknown number, “Lu Jingyan, do you miss me?”

Unknown number, “I missed you.”

Unknown number, “Even though Christmas is over, I still want to wish you Merry Christmas.”

Unknown number, “Do you remember Jian Mo?

Lu Jingyan gripped her phone, her fingers trembling. She couldn’t breathe, it was as though someone was strangling her.

Images flashed through her mind, they were messy and cruel.

She held her brain trying to stop the images but they kept reappearing, clearer than before.

She turned and ran out the door.

She pushed open the door in a panic.

When Sheng Xian heard the commotion, he quickly came down from his car, “Lu Jingyan?”

She stopped and looked straight at him.

Sheng Xian hurried towards her and asked, “What happened?”

She opened her mouth but the words “”Help me” was stuck in her throat.

Sheng Xian frowned, his gaze sliding from her face to her feet.

She was wearing a pair of white sneakers and the laces had loosened when she ran.

He looked for two seconds, knelt down and picked up the laces on the floor. He used his sleeve to wipe off the mud and tied a pretty butterfly knot.
