The waiter, “...”
Sheng Xian, “...”
Lu Jingyan, “...”
After a moment of silence, Sheng Xian walked past the waiter and entered the bar emotionlessly.
Lu Jingyan paused for a second before following behind.
This bar wasn’t as well located as the previous one, even though it was Christmas, it wasn’t the weekends so there weren’t many patrons.
Sheng Xian entered the bar and picked a seat.
Lu Jingyan wasn’t sure how things were between them, they didn’t seem to have argued the previous time and now, they didn’t seem to have patched things up. She hesitated for a moment, and passed him, prepared to find another empty table.
She focused on the road ahead, and when she passed him, she felt a soft tug.
She paused and glanced down.
Sheng Xian was holding onto her bag strap.
It was a beautiful hand, his fingers were long and defined, and his nails were neatly trimmed.
Lu Jingyan took a few glances before sliding her gaze up to his face.
There wasn’t any emotion on his face, and when their gaze met, his tone was clear, “Sit here.”
Lu Jingyan was caught off guard, “Ah?”
Sheng Xian shifted to the side, “Sit.”
Lu Jingyan took a second before sitting beside him.
The waiter served them the menu very quickly.
Lu Jingyan ordered a cocktail with low alcohol content, just as she did in the previous bar, and passed the menu over to Sheng Xian.
Sheng Xian glanced down and ordered a non-alcoholic soda water as he still needed to drive.
After the waiter left with the menu, Sheng Xian started to use his phone.
Since he had nothing to say to her, Lu Jingyan started to use her phone as well.
As compared to Sheng Xian’s intense concentration, she seemed to be scrolling carelessly, her thoughts straying towards him.
What is he up to?
He was waiting for someone but after bumping into her, he just followed her to a bar?
The last time they met, things ended on a sour note. Why did it seem like he wasn’t bothered at all?
Perhaps he didn’t think much about it? She was the only one bothered?
After he was done returning messages, he turned to look at her.
She held her chin in her hands and was staring ahead intently.
Sheng Xian followed her gaze to a group of young guys. One of them was biting on a cigarette, prepared to light it.
Sheng Xian turned back to Lu Jingyan and realized she was staring straight at the cigarette.
Unable to fathom her thoughts, he licked his lips.
Sheng Xian stared at the smoke that was floating from the boy’s cigarette and seemed to have thought of something. He reached into his pocket and took out a piece of candy.
It was Christmas and there were people giving out candies. They gave him a few which he randomly stuffed into his pocket.
He passed the candy over, “Here.”
The engrossed Lu Jingyan hadn’t reacted.
Seeing her lack of reaction, Sheng Xian took out the candy wrapper and passed her one, “Open your mouth.”
Lu Jingyan was still deep in thought, she saw him pass a candy over and didn’t have time to react, opening her mouth blankly.
The next second, a candy appeared in her mouth.
The nauseatingly sweet taste flooded her senses.
Lu Jingyan wanted to spit it out, but he passed a few more of it over, “Quit smoking.”
His tone was calm, without a hint of emotion, “If you really can’t take it, have a candy.”
Lu Jingyan stilled, and stopped midway trying to spit out the candy.
She took a moment and realised the person in front of her was smoking. Sheng Xian must have thought her addiction was kicking in.
Lu Jingyan moved her lips, the sweetness from the candy spreading across her tongue. She didn’t have a sweet tooth but it seemed acceptable.
The waiter quickly came back with their drinks. Lu Jingyan pressed her lips together and tilted her head, “Is this a new tactic?”
“Mmh?”
“The new tactic to make me a witness.”
Sheng Xian, “...No.”
After a few seconds, he continued, “The victim found new evidence.”
Lu Jingyan paused mid-drink and replied without any emotion, “Oh.”
Silence fell over them.
Lu Jingyan thought they would sit in silence until they parted.
But after about ten minutes, Sheng Xian asked, “Did something happen in the past?”
Lu Jingyan hadn’t expected Sheng Xian to ask such a question, she lowered her head towards the light pink cocktail. After a few seconds, she smiled and replied, “No, what could happen?”
Sheng Xian watched her silently.
Lu Jingyan blinked, “Oh right, I wanted to ask you, how did you know me previously?”
“Mmh.”
“When was that? Was it when we were in school? How did we meet?”
Lu Jingyan bombarded him with a few questions, but Sheng Xian looked away, “I don’t remember.”
“……”
Great.
You can just say you aren’t willing to tell me. Who would believe your excuse?
Lu Jingyan drank her beer emotionlessly.
The thought had bothered her for a while, she had combed through all her memories but couldn’t seem to find him anywhere, she couldn’t even find him in the schools she attended.
More importantly, he wasn’t willing to tell her.
He acted so mysteriously, as though they were playing a game of hide and seek.
Lu Jingyan was like a cat that couldn’t be satisfied, the harder it was to obtain the answer, the more curious she was.
Sheng Xian’s drank his soda water leisurely, his calmness a stark contrast to her burning curiosity,
Lu Jingyan pouted. She couldn’t help looking at him.
He was perfect in every way.
There wasn’t a single flaw.
It seemed as though he was man-made…
Lu Jingyan blinked, and blinked again. With a new thought in mind, she moved closer towards him.
“Did you get plastic surgery?”
He must have had something down to drastically change his appearance so she couldn’t recognise him.
Lu Jingyan inspected his face, “Which clinic did you go to? Their skills are pretty good, there doesn’t seem to be any scars.”
