Chapter 391: Secret of the Underground Garage
He was a very opinionated person, he didn’t care about her thoughts, and kept forcing his ideas on her.
“I’m quite pleased with your appearance. I want two children, and it'd be the best if there’s a boy. Since I've stayed overseas for such a long time, I prefer western food…”
Lu Jingyan wanted to roll her eyes, she didn’t even want to respond.
Lu Jingyan was determined to accomplish her task, she sat in silence as she listened.
She thought that he would stop talking after sensing the awkward atmosphere but instead, he grew increasingly excited, his chatter making her drowsy.
Lu Jingyan couldn’t hold in her yawn, she pressed away the tears from her eyes and glanced down at the time.
There were a few private messages on her social media account.
It was still that unknown account.
“Lu Jingyan, I’m here again.”
“I realized it’s quite fun to send you messages anonymously.”
“Lu Jingyan, it’s been such a long time. Do you remember what happened back then? Do you need me to refresh your memory?”
“Do you remember the abandoned car garage behind our campus?”
Lu Jingyan bolted upright.
The man who had been speaking excitedly looked up at her, “Miss Lu?”
Lu Jingyan forced herself to stay calm. “I…I need the washroom.”
She took her phone and fled out of the private room.
She dashed into the washroom and randomly pushed open a cubicle, locked the door and leaned against it with heavy breaths.
She was shaking.
She could barely hold her phone.
She stood for a long while before looking down at her phone. She pressed her lips together, and struggled to unlock the screen and enter the app.
Even though she had already read the message, she still felt her breathing speed up when she read it the second time.
She swallowed and typed with shaking fingers, “Who are you?”
“Who exactly are you?”
Just like the previous time, there was no reply.
Lu Jingyan slowly slid down against the door panel squatting on the ground with her head buried in her knees. She held her legs for a long time, staying in that position until her legs went numb. Slowly, she propped herself up against the wall next to her and stood up.
When she returned to the private room, the man Lu Hongcheng had arranged for her to meet was no longer there.
The waiter said he was very displeased when he left.
Lu Jingyan didn’t care, and nodded indifferently. She took her bag and prepared to leave but was stopped by the waiter.
She turned.
The waiter passed her the bill, “Miss, you haven’t paid.”
Lu Jingyan, “...”
After footing the bill, she left the restaurant and sat in the car for about ten minutes. Unlike before, she didn’t receive Lu Hongcheng’s phone call, so she drove home.
When she returned, Lu Jingyan parked her car in the parking garage and took the elevator up.
When the elevator doors opened, Lu Jingyan thought she would see Auntie Sun but instead, she saw Lu Hongcheng watching television in the living room.
His face was dark and gloomy.
It seemed like she had overstepped his boundary this time. Instead of calling her as he usually did, he came straight home.
Lu Jingyan stood in the elevator for two seconds before walking out, “Uncle.”
Lu Hongcheng didn’t say anything, he switched off the television and looked up at her, “Lu Jingyan, you’re getting out of hand. I don’t care how you play around on other days but not on a day like this. Don’t you know the importance of the meeting? How could you leave the restaurant without telling Mr Yang?”
“Is this how the Lu family taught you? When did you become so disrespectful? You have to remember, for the things you do, you wouldn’t just be embarrassing yourself, you would be embarrassing the entire Lu family.”
“Regardless, call Mr Yang right now, in front of me, to apologize.”
Lu Hongcheng was always like that, he scolded her without bothering to clarify what had happened and made her apologize.
Lu Jingyan had wanted to defend herself but she didn’t.
She found it meaningless.
All these years, ever since she was young, no one really cared about her.
Lu Hongcheng was furious, and when she didn’t make a move, his face darkened, “Call him to apologize now!”
Lu Jingyan didn’t react.
Lu Hongcheng stood up, and raised his hands in anger.
Auntie Sun who had been hiding in the kitchen dashed out, “Mr Lu, calm down.”
Lu Hongcheng paused and retracted his hand, he looked at Lu Jingyan and grew increasingly angry. He pointed towards her, “Don’t forget, whatever you have is given by the Lu family. The Lu family wouldn’t keep a useless person, if you continue behaving like this, get out.”
“And, you don’t have to call Mr Yang now but the next time I invite him out, you have to apologize to him in front of me.”
After Lu Hongcheng had vented his anger, he took his clothes and left.
Auntie Sun walked over, “Miss Lu, you should apologize to him now, don’t keep making Mr Lu angry.”
Look, all of them wanted her to apologize.
Lu Jingyan looked down and laughed lightly. Without saying anything, she headed upstairs.
She shut the door, tossed her bag aside and laid on the floor.
She looked at the ceiling, her expression gradually turning blank.
…
After lying for about an hour, Lu Jingyan started to feel hungry. She didn’t want to ask Auntie Sun for food so she headed out.
But after she was out, she no longer had any appetite but she didn’t wish to head back home so she wandered about.
She drove around and ended up near the vicinity of the school.
It was almost 11 but the lights in the classrooms were still switched on, and there were still students strolling out.
What was she doing here?
Sheng Xian wouldn’t be here at this hour.
Lu Jingyan didn’t know where to go, so she turned off the engine and stopped by the roadside.
She felt awful, and was craving a cigarette and beer.
She managed to find cigarettes from the car, but she tossed it out.
She leaned her seat back, lay backwards and stared blankly at the star filled car ceiling.
She wasn’t sure how long she sat there, the lights in the classrooms switched off one after another, the surroundings becoming more and more quiet.
Just as she was about to head home, someone knocked on her car window.
She absently rolled down the car windows and saw a black trenchcoat.
“What is it?”
The person outside didn’t reply.
She raised her car seat and stuck her head out the window to look, “Excuse me…”
She paused mid sentence and stared at the person outside in surprise.
Sheng Xian glanced down at the elementary student’s head, he paused for a while and asked, “What are you doing here in the middle of the night?”
