Special District 9 Chapter 168: He’s Coming At Us

Nighttime.

Qin Yu called all of the brothers on his side over for a meal in the canteen. The aim of this gathering was to introduce Ding Guozhen and Fu Xiaohao to everyone.

Just as the meal was about to come to an end, Zhu Wei reminded Qin Yu, “I’ve gotten the information about the case from Squad 2, and Liu Baochen’s intention is to put us in charge of the investigation around Dirt Street. His plan is to have us capture some gun dealers who are already on our radar and interrogate them. Basically, he just wants to try his luck and see if he can somehow get some leads on the fixers who killed Wu Yao.”

“Is he dumb?” Qin Yu was rendered speechless by those words. “There must be at least several hundred people who are living off the gun trade here in Songjiang! To touch all of those people over a few fixers, he must be tired of living!”

“Yeah, that’s what I thought too,” Zhu Wei nodded in agreement. “Everyone knows that there has been a flood of guns these years, such that not even the government of Special District 9 doesn’t dare to arbitrarily attempt a crackdown on guns. If we foolishly dive into this mess, we might just get assassinated!”

“Ignore him,” Qin Yu said with a frown.

“But we still need to investigate the case. It’ll be a case of insubordination if we were to ignore his directives. He’d just report you to Wen Yonggang, and we’ll have to face a great deal of trouble again,” Zhu Wei reminded.

“We’ll investigate the case, but there’s no point messing around in Dirt Street,” Qin Yu replied as he took a look at his watch. “It’s already getting late, so let’s just rest for the time being. We’ll discuss this again tomorrow morning.”

“Alright!”

The crowd nodded.

“Guys, to the arrival of the two new friends in our squad!” Qin Yu raised his glass as he spoke. “Come, drink up! Those who have shifts tonight, you can use plain water as a substitute. Let’s have one last toast before resting for the night!”

“Cheers!”

“…!”

Everyone rose to their feet and bumped their glasses together before gulping down their drinks.

The following afternoon.

Zhu Wei looked for Qin Yu in the common working space and reported, “I asked everyone who was present that day, but no one was able to get in contact with that fellow.”

“Did you head to his house to take a look?” Qin Yu asked with a frown.

“That fellow has no home at all. He just stays wherever that’s convenient to him.”

Qin Yu fell into deep thought for a moment before he grabbed his coat and said, “Call the newcomers over. We’ll be heading out.”

“Where?” Zhu Wei asked.

“To the Wu Family.”

Two hours later.

In an ordinary residence in Jiangnan Sector’s Huanjiang Road, Zhu Wei, seated on a sofa in a study room, assessed his surroundings as he remarked, “For the house of a senator, this looks more ordinary than I thought.”

“Heh, it’s precisely because it’s the house of a senator that it ought to look this way,” Qin Yu replied with a smile.

“… Can’t disagree with that. The real villains are the ones who don’t look their part.”

Zhu Wei didn’t have a good impression of the Wu Family either. The only reason why he was here was for work reasons.

While the few of them were chatting, the doors to the study suddenly opened, and a young man of the same age as Qin Yu walked in and introduced himself, “Hello. I am Wu Yao’s cousin.”

“Ah, pleased to meet you.” Qin Yu stood up and shook his hand.

“Sit, sit,” the young man said as he beckoned toward the sofa. Then, he took a seat on the chair opposite to Qin Yu and the others and said, “My uncle is busy dealing with the funeral at the moment, and there isn’t really anyone else convenient. So, he called me here to meet you all.”

Qin Yu knew that the Wu Family wouldn’t take him too kindly as he was the one handling Tong Guisheng’s case previously, so he figured that Wu Wensheng wouldn’t be willing to meet him even if he was at home at the moment.

However, as Wu Yao’s murder case was already assigned to Platoon 4, he couldn’t afford to just sit around and do nothing.

“We’re here to find out more about the case.”

“Yes, please feel free to speak,” the young man said nonchalantly.

“Guozhen, record down the statement,” Qin Yu instructed.

“Understood!” Ding Guozhen nodded.

Qin Yu took a short while to reorganize his thoughts first before asking, “I heard that there’s an important eye-witness to Wu Yao’s murder case, a person named Dajun. Do you know him?”

“I do.” The young man hesitated for a moment before nodding.

“What’s his relationship with Wu Yao?”

“They are friends.”

“Are you certain? Based on what I know, Dajun is currently working in Wu Yao’s trading company,” Qin Yu replied with a frown.

“… Ahh, that’s right. He’s a temporary staff of Little Wu’s company though, so there’s no contract between them.” The young man quickly changed his statement awkwardly.

Qin Yu pondered for a moment before asking once more, “Our colleagues over at Jiangnan Sector Police Bureau has provided us with the testimonies of the eye-witnesses, and I had a look through them. One of the eye-witnesses mentioned that Wu Yao had over twenty people with him that day, and they were all armed. Do you know why such a large group of armed people was gathered at the rubbish dump that day?”

The young man took some time to carefully ponder over it before he replied slowly, “He was there to repay Dajun’s debt.”

“Am I right to say that Dajun owes the culprit money? Do you know the reason behind the debt?”

“… Why are you asking these questions?” The young man was clearly starting to lose his patience. “My cousin is the one who has been killed here! Shouldn’t you be looking for leads on the culprits instead?”

“The cause of the incident could provide us with an important clue to finding the culprits,” Qin Yu replied with composure. “It’ll influence the direction of our investigation.”

“I’m not sure why Dajun owes the culprits money, but it’s a fact that they have killed my cousin!” the young man shook his head and replied.

“I see. Are you in contact with Dajun then? He’s one of the key figures involved in this case, so locating him could prove to be vital in tracking down the culprits.”

“I’m not in contact with him.”

“… That’s all that we have for you. We’ll make sure to inform you right away if there’s any news,” Qin Yu took one good look at the darkened look on the young man’s face before he finally rose to his feet. “We’ll be leaving then.”

“Yes, I’ll be waiting for your news.” The young man continued sitting on the sofa, showing no signs of standing up at all.

Qin Yu quickly packed up his stuff before heading toward the door together with his group.

Just as he was about to walk out, he suddenly turned around and said, “Ah, there’s something that I forgot to inform you. The culprits who killed Wu Yao are very likely to be illegal gun smugglers. Our Police Bureau has been investigating this group of people for a while now. I’m just having difficulties trying to understand why this group of people would suddenly make their move on Wu Yao…”

The young man’s body stiffened upon hearing those words, and his face grew even darker.

“See you,” Qin Yu said before turning around and leaving the residence.

Half an hour later.

The young man headed back to the main residence, where a funerary tent was set up for Wu Yao’s mourning altar. He walked into the tent and up to Wu Wensheng and told him softly, “The person who came is the Black Street Sector Police Bureau’s Qin Yu.”

Wu Wensheng was silent for a moment before he asked nonchalantly, “He’s the one who caught my son?”

“That’s right,” the young man replied.

“… What did he ask you?”

“He asked about Dajun and the cause of the case,” the young man replied with a frown, “He appears to be hostile to us.”

Wu Wensheng took some time to process the information before sighing lightly, saying, “I’ve been a little out of it the last two days, so I haven’t been able to think more deeply into the details. Little Wu went to the rubbish dump due to some payment issues of his goods…

“This matter mustn’t get out. Inform all of the brothers present that day to seal their lips tight. Anyone else who asks about it, regardless of whether they are from the Police Bureaus or the Police Headquarters, just tell them that Little Wu was there to repay Dajun’s debt. The other party went overboard with their conditions, and Little Wu was killed after turning them down.”

“I’ll get it done,” the young man replied.

Wu Wensheng continued to toss joss paper into a fire urn as he added on lividly, “Stop all of our businesses on the streets for the time being until the case concludes. Also, don’t accept the partnership with Yuan Ke regarding the medicine for now. We need to lie low for the time being.”

“I understand, uncle.”

“… Dajun has managed to get away?” Wu Wensheng asked.

“Yeah, he’s gone. He’s probably afraid of getting implicated.”

“It’s good that he’s gone.” Wu Wensheng nodded.

He continued to ponder over this matter while burning joss paper, and in the end, he took out his phone and dialed Yuan Ke’s number.

“Hello, Uncle Wu.”

“Yuan Ke, I really have to thank you for your help,” Wu Wensheng spoke with a completely impassive tone. “Even the ones who caught Little Wu have begun giving their all to investigate this issue. Looks like your influence in the Black Street Sector really is something.”

Yuan Ke was taken aback by the remarks. “You mean Qin Yu…?”

“… He just left my house.”

“Uncle, He isn’t under my…”

“I’m busy at the moment. I’ll treat you to dinner to thank you for your help when I have time.” Without bothering to wait for Yuan Ke’s explanation, Wu Wensheng hung up the phone right away.

In the Black Street Sector’s Majestic Palace Entertainment, Yuan Ke clenched his fist as his face warped in fury, and he murmured menacingly, “That fucking Qin Yu. I’ll kill him one day.”

“What’s wrong?” Xiao Jiu asked.

“I just assured Wu Wensheng that I would get the Black Street Sector Police Bureau to give their all into investigating this case, but Qin Yu went to knock on Wu Wensheng’s door to investigate the case.”

“… Qin Yu was the one who captured Wu Yao previously… Our situation will get quite awkward if he continues messing around with the Wu Family like that.”

“Like I don’t know that! Wu Wensheng just mocked me in a call over that,” Yuan Ke spat angrily. “I seriously don’t know that Liu Baochen is doing. I entrusted the case into his hands, but he can’t even handle a single Qin Yu?”

On the road.

Sitting in his car, Qin Yu turned to look at Zhu Wei and said, “There’s definitely more to Wu Yao’s death than that.”

“Even a fool can tell that it has something to do with gun smuggling,” Zhu Wei nodded in agreement. “It’ll be hard for us to implicate the matter on the Wu Family though. Dajun has already gotten away, and the Wu Family would have surely shut the mouths of those eye-witnesses by now.”

Along a certain alley in the city, Brother Xiao bit onto a cigarette as he leaned leisurely against a wall, waiting patiently for a person.

Several minutes later, the brawny man, who liked reading erotic novels, walked over and informed Brother Xiao, “We have finished checking out the place. We can make a move anytime.”
