Special District 9 Chapter 167: Two Brothers

Qin Yu sat in his chair as he assessed Liu Baochen quietly. He was hesitating as to whether he should give the lead he had on Brother Xiao out so that the team would have a direction to work with.

While Qin Yu was thankful to Brother Xiao for getting rid of the vermin known as Wu Yao, the latter did bring him quite a bit of trouble back at Jiangzhou. Besides, the two of them had never met one another, and it was pretty apparent that Brother Xiao was a dangerous figure to get involved with. There was no reason why Qin Yu had to think on the other party’s behalf.

Over at the blackboard, Liu Baochen coldly shot a glance at Qin Yu and said, “Vice Platoon Commander Qin, you should put aside whatever you have on hand at the moment too. We’ll need all of the manpower we can get to crack this case. I hope that Squad 3 can quickly adapt to Platoon 4’s pace and cut it with the previous lackadaisical attitude…”

Hearing this sort of bullshit from the inept Liu Baochen made Qin Yu feel deeply revulsed on the inside, and he said, “Platoon Commander Liu, I don’t understand what you’re talking about. In terms of accomplishments, I think our Squad 3 hasn’t been lagging behind the rest of Platoon 4, don’t you agree?”

Liu Baochen glared at Qin Yu with a frown before finally issuing another instruction, “I’ll have those in Squad 2 send you the details of the gun smuggling case as soon as possible. I expect Squad 3 to bring up some suggestions during our meeting tomorrow.”

“No problem,” Qin Yu replied with a nod.

“That’s all then. You’re all dismissed.”

After saying his piece, Liu Baochen turned around and left the meeting room.

Zhu Wei scratched his nose as he turned to Qin Yu and said, “That Madame Liu is really bent on making things difficult for us. He’s really picking flaws with our Squad 3 at every turn. Heh, just wait and see! If this case gets cracked, he’ll take all of the credit for himself. If it fails, Squad 3 will be the one to take the fall!”

“Just do our job properly and stall till we’re ready to leave,” Qin Yu replied sharply. “A person like him is only capable of engaging in meaningless squabbles. There’s no point in wasting our strength bickering with him.”

“I’ll get the case information from Squad 2 later on,” Zhu Wei nodded.

“Shit, I nearly forgot!” As Qin Yu rose to his feet, he suddenly recalled something that had slipped his mind thus far.

“What’s wrong?” Zhu Wei asked.

“Due to Uncle Tong’s incident, I completely forgot about our two new interns!” Qin Yu exclaimed as he quickly packed up his item. “I’ll be counting on you to get the information. I’ll go pay a visit to our two interns first.”

“No problem!”

Half an hour later.

In the Police Bureau’s dormitory, two young lads who were in their early twenties were chatting with one another leisurely on their beds when the door to the dormitory suddenly opened.

Qin Yu walked in with his uniform and shouted, “Ding Guozhen, Fu Xiaohao!”

“Here!”

“Here!”

The two lads were stunned for a moment before quickly leaping to their feet at attention. They put their hands up in a salute and shouted out, “Vice Platoon Commander Qin!”

As Qin Yu was the one who brought the new interns here from Fengbei, the three of them had already met one another.

“Haha, there’s no need to be so tense with me,” Qin Yu said with a wave of his hand. “Relax a little.”

The two of them put down their hands. Fu Xiaohao gestured to his bed and said, “Have a seat here, Vice Platoon Commander Qin.”

Qin Yu lowered his head and sat down on Fu Xiaohao’s bunk bed before he said, “The two of you shouldn’t stand around either. Have a seat too.”

“Alright.”

The two of them nodded their heads stiffly before taking a seat opposite to Qin Yu with their bodies completely upright.

“We didn’t have any time to chat on the train.” Qin Yu took out his e-cigarette to take a puff before asking casually, “Where are you guys from?”

“I’m from Fengbei.” Ding Guozhen was slightly plump, but he had a fair complexion with distinctive facial features. It wouldn’t be wrong to call him a suave young man.

“What about you?” Qin Yu turned to Fu Xiaohao and asked.

“I’m… from Fengbei’s suburbs,” Fu Xiaohao spoke with a lowered head, embarrassed by his humble background.

Qin Yu took another puff of smoke before asking with an amicable smile, “Since you were able to afford to study at the Police Academy, I’d guess that your family is doing pretty decently. There must have been other ways out for you, so why choose this dangerous path?”

“My dad says that becoming a police officer means that you’re set for life. There’s no need to worry about having no money,” Ding Guozhen spoke with a boisterous attitude. “… Since they were willing to pay for me, there’s no reason why I shouldn’t go.”

Fu Xiaohao, on the other hand, hesitated for a moment before he looked at Qin Yu and answered, “My thoughts are a little simpler. I thought that I have to join an organization and become an official in order to stand a chance at climbing higher.”

“You’re quite an honest person, haha,” Qin Yu was surprised at Fu Xiaohao’s response before chuckling it off.

“There’s nothing to lie about,” Fu Xiaohao replied with his hands placed neatly on his thighs. With the same direct words from before, he continued, “Children from poor backgrounds like us don’t have a path paved out for us, so we can only forge our own way forward.”

“Makes sense.” Qin Yu nodded. “Alright, the two of you will be following me from now on. My squad doesn’t have many rules, and you can feel free to look for me if you need anything.”

“I’ll be troubling Vice Platoon Commander Qin to take care of me then,” Fu Xiaohao replied with a courteous and respectful tone.

“Vice Platoon Commander Qin, when are we getting to work?” Ding Guozhen asked.

Qin Yu stood up as he said, “It just so happens that we’ve a case on hand at the moment. Put on your uniforms, head over to the common working space, and look for Zhu Wei.”

“Yes, sir!”

“Yes, sir!”

The two of them nodded in response.

“We’ll be heading to the canteen to have a meal together later on so that you can familiarize yourself with the others,” Qin Yu added with a chuckle.

He turned around and began walking out of the room, but it was then that he noticed a pink cup covered in yellow fur sitting on top of Ding Guozhen’s bed.

Ding Guozhen noticed what Qin Yu was looking at, and his face immediately flushed red.

Qin Yu was stunned for a moment before reaching out to pick up the cup and remarking, “What an odd cup you have here.”

“Vice Platoon Commander Qin, put it down!” Ding Guozhen rushed forward to snatch it back. “This… isn’t a cup.”

“What is it?” the ignorant Qin Yu asked.

“Hahaha!” Seeing this situation, Fu Xiaohao burst into laughter. “It’s Ding Guozhen’s wife, something he uses at night to vent his lust at night!”

Hearing those words, the disgusted Qin Yu quickly wiped his hand on Ding Guozhen’s shirt as he commented, “… You sure have interesting tastes. You like yellow?”

The reddened-faced Ding Guozhen replied meekly, “… Yeap.”

“Yeap your head! Hurry up and keep it away!” Qin Yu berated speechlessly. “It’s no wonder why Madame Liu keeps picking fault with our Squad 3; there’s really a problem with you lot! You really need to kick away your bad habits!”

“Hahaha!” Fu Xiaohao clutched his stomach as he laughed heartily.

Songjiang City.

Brother Xiao, who had just had a refreshing bath in the toilet, walked over to the sofa in the living room and sat down.

“You’re on the news,” the brawny man seated next to him remarked lazily.

“My photo is out?” Brother Xiao asked calmly.

“Yeah,” the brawny man replied. “Only yours though.”

Brother Xiao picked up his cigarette box and paused for a moment before he said, “We can’t stay here anymore. Pack up, we’ll be leaving.”

“Alright.”

“Also, we shouldn’t let Wu Yao die in vain,” Brother Xiao said as he took a puff of smoke. He turned to his teammate and instructed, “For the time being, we’ll take cover since the Police Bureaus will be going all out. After this storm blows over, we’ll make a move.”

“I just looked into it…” the brawny man sat up and leaned in to whisper into Brother Xiao’s ear.
