Chapter 673: When the Rain Continues
Recently, the entire Platoon 4 had been focused on cracking the illegal gun trade case, but Qin Yu and Liu Baochen weren’t on close terms with one another, so Qin Yu couldn’t be bothered to get involved in the case as well. He simply instructed his men to cooperate with them only when necessary.
The emergence of the missing son case didn’t really catch Qin Yu’s interest initially. Such cases were extremely common in the current era, filling up shelves within the archive. The Black Street Sector Police Bureau was simply too limited in its manpower and resources to crack all of these cases.
The main reason why Qin Yu chose to pick up the missing son case anyway was due to him hearing that the suspect, Wu Yao, was very close with Yuan Ke, so he thought that it would be a good opportunity to mess around with the Yuan Family. But little did Qin Yu know that the shadows lurking in Songjiang were even darker than those in the Development Districts…
Morning.
Sitting in his office, Qin Yu looked through the documents that Zhu Wei handed him before asking, “Did the old man leave his address?”
“He did,” Zhu Wei replied with a nod.
“The details of the case aren’t too clear. Get two of our men to prepare themselves; we’ll be heading over to the old man’s house,” Qin Yu instructed.
“Isn’t Liu Baochen holding a meeting in the afternoon? Is it really fine for you to not be around?”
“Heh, I bet he’s praying for me to stay as far away from him as possible right now,” Qin Yu replied with a chuckle. “It’s fine. It’ll do as long as we get the others in our squad to attend the meeting.”
“Sounds like a plan,” Zhu Wei replied with a nod.
…
One in the afternoon, a police vehicle arrived at the borders of Black Street Sector, stopping before a small rundown residence. Qin Yu, together with Zhu Wei and two others, got down the police vehicle and knocked on the doors of the residence.
Several minutes later, the old man who came over to report the case yesterday opened the door. He was surprised to see Qin Yu and the others. “What are you all doing here?”
“You’re speaking as if you aren’t the one who reported the case. We’re here to enquire about it,” Qin Yu replied with a smile.
The old man was stunned for a long while before he muttered, “I didn’t think that you’d really come here to meet me.”
“What’s wrong?”
“I thought that you’d just jot down the details of the case and toss the matter aside,” the old man replied frankly. He stepped aside and said, “Come in.”
The group entered the residence together.
The old man led them forward, bringing them past three rundown brick houses built by charity organizations. Qin Yu examined his surroundings and noticed that there was hardly anything inside the houses at all, just a couple of secondhand furniture.
The old man laid out a table in the living room and offered the crowd some slightly yellowish plain water before asking with a fatigued look, “What do you want to know?”
Qin Yu took a seat on one of the chairs and asked with a frown, “The case happened four months ago. Why are you only reporting it now?”
“I’ve already reported it a long time ago.” The old man sighed deeply. “But those from your Black Street Sector Police Bureau said that my son is likely to have gone missing in Jiangnan Sector, so the case should be reported there instead…
“So, I went to Jiangnan Sector Police Bureau to report the case, providing them with the leads needed for the investigation. However, over the past three months, I visited the Jiangnan Sector Police Bureau for dozens of times, only to hear them say that the case is too complicated and there was no progress every single time. They insisted that the incident occurred in Black Street Sector Police Bureau, so it isn’t within their jurisdiction. All they could do is to put my son on the list of missing people.
“I couldn’t bring myself to let the matter rest just like that, so I reported the case over on your side again.”
Qin Yu pondered for a moment after asking, “Gramps, I looked at the transcript of the case you reported, and you claimed that Wu Yao is the suspect. Do you have any concrete evidence?”
“He’s not just the suspect, and my son didn’t go missing. He’s the criminal who killed my son,” the old man obstinately corrected Qin Yu’s words.
Qin Yu waved his hand to gesture for the police officers with him not to jot that down on the transcript before asking the old man again, “Why do you say that?”
The old man took some time to organize his thoughts before he gazed deeply at the floor and said, “My son and his wife are employees of Bambi Entertainment City… To be frank with you, my son works as an errand runner whereas my daughter-in-law is in charge of serving a few of their guest rooms because her looks are quite decent…”
“Does she accompany the guests for drinks?” Zhu Wei asked.
“For the regulars, yes. She would often receive tips from them too. However, she’s not a hostess, and she has never stayed out overnight either. She would always return with my son after work,” the old man said.
“Un, go on,” Qin Yu said with a nod.
“It all started with my daughter-in-law…” The old man began recounting everything that had happened.
…
At the entrance of a cardroom in Jiangnan Sector.
Brother Xiao, sporting his usual goatskin windbreaker and ponytail look, strutted into the cardroom with a hand placed in his pocket.
A man standing behind the counter greeted them with a smile and asked, “Are you here to play? Do you want to play in the public area or get a private room?”
“I’m looking for Miao,” Brother Xiao took a quick scan of the cardroom as he replied.
“You are…?”
“I’m his friend. You can just call him over to my room. I still owe him some money the last time I played here,” Brother Xiao said with a smile.
“No problem. I’ll bring you over to your room now.”
…
Several minutes later.
Brother Xiao fiddled disinterestedly with the dirty mahjong tiles on the table before him with a cigarette hanging on his mouth.
Huaji!
The door suddenly opened, and a lad with a crew cut burst into the room and called out cheerfully, “Who called for me…?”
But before he could finish his words, the crew cut lad spotted Brother Xiao and froze on the spot. “You all… What brought all of you here?”
Brother Xiao flashed him a smile, not saying a word at all. Meanwhile, the two brothers beside him rushed forward and pulled that lad in before closing the door.
“Where’s the money for the goods?” Brother Xiao asked.
“I’m not the one who took the goods, why are you looking for me?” Miao stiffened his neck in an attempt to make himself look imposing as he replied. “You should get your money from Dajun instead!”
“Aren’t you the one who introduced Dajun to me?” Brother Xiao remarked.
“I was the one who introduced him to you, but you were the ones who did business with one another afterward. I have nothing to do with this!” Miao spoke forcefully as he pushed the brawny man by his right away. He leisurely walked over to Brother Xiao and took a seat before him, saying, “I heard that Dajun stirred some shit and ran away. I reckon that he won’t be able to pay you back for the time being.”
“Heh! The two of you are trying to take me for a fool?” Brother Xiao laughed dryly to himself before asking menacingly.
“I am more than willing to help you get your money so that I can receive the compensation I deserve, but Dajun has already gotten away. What else can I do?” Miao grumbled in disappointment.
He looked at Brother Xiao with a glint in his eyes as he said, “Why don’t you ask Dajun’s boss for money then? That lad is quite famous in the Jiangnan Sector, and he’s known to be rich too… Heh, I’m just worried that the other party won’t pay any heed to you.”
“Now you’re trying to intimidate me?”
“Like I said, this matter…”
Peng!
Before Miao could finish his words, Brother Xiao had already raised his leg and kicked him right in his chest.
Gudong!
Miao fell backward along with the chair, crashing heavily onto the ground. “The fuck!”
“Don’t move!”
“Stay right there!”
Two brawny men stepped forward and pressed Miao down on the dirty ground.
Brother Xiao slowly rose to his feet and walked up to Miao before squatting next to him. Holding two mahjong tiles in his hands, he said, “Open your mouth.”
“You are bloo…” Miao struggled frantically.
The two brawny men held Miao’s lower jaw in place and forcefully pried his mouth open.
Brother Xiao stuffed the two mahjong tiles into Miao’s mouth before slowly standing up once more. His eyebrows slowly shifted upward before he abruptly raised his right foot and stomped right down onto Miao’s face.
Bam! Crack!
The sound of teeth cracking could be heard all around, and blood flowed from Miao’s nose. The abrupt surge of excruciating pain gave rise to great strength within Miao as he forcefully struggled himself free from the grasp of the two brawny men and rolled all around the ground in pain.
Brother Xiao gazed down at Miao as he spoke with a chilling air, “Tell that Dajun or something that there has never been a person who dares to swindle my money. I’ll give him three days. If he doesn’t return my money by then, I’ll make all of you sing Conquered while swallowing the rest of the mahjong tiles.”
After saying his piece, Brother Xiao walked to the door and opened the door.
Hulala!
Eight men outside the door immediately stepped forth and encircled him.
Brother Xiao casually stepped aside, and the two men behind him flung their coat sideward and shouted to the crowd, “Get lost!”
…
On the other hand.
After the old man was done running through the details of everything that had happened, he began explaining to Qin Yu how it all happened
Four months ago.
On the third floor of Bambi Entertainment City, a young woman was pushed into a completely empty compartment room by Wu Yao. She frantically screamed, “Bro, I really can’t do it… I’m begging you, my husband is downstairs… Don’t do this…”
“Heh, isn’t that what that makes it more exciting? Stop your screaming, and it’ll be all done within two minutes!” Wu Yao said with the scent of alcohol gushing out of his mouth. He pushed the young woman down as he closed the door with a hook of his foot.
