Special District 9 Chapter 134: Pitiful Plight

Inside the room.

Yong Dong took a seat on the sofa before he took out a piece of note from his pocket and placed it on the table, saying, “I was the one who came up with the idea of the fake medicine and convinced Little Qu to go along with me. The details and people involved in the incident are listed here. As long as you work the case according to what I’ve written down here, you should be able to wash the Ma Family clean of its accusations.”

Old Cat took a look at the note and asked with a frown, “Little Qu’s death has created a missing link in the chain of evidence. Is it really possible to salvage the situation?”

Yong Dong mulled over those words for several seconds before he pointed to the note and said, “I wrote down the details of a person named Liu Chun on this paper. He and Ol’ Three were present when I gave money to Little Qu.”

“Did he run away after the incident occurred?” Old Cat asked.

“He should still be in Songjiang,” Yong Dong replied. A faint wry smile formed on his lips as he added, “The company must be in chaos after Yuan Hua’s death. I doubt that anyone would have the spare energy to deal with a minor character like him at this juncture.”

“Alright, I got it.” Old Cat took the paper and stood up. “You all continue chatting. I’ll go make the call.”

Over on the bed, Qin Yu stared at Yong Dong before abruptly asking, “You’re giving everything away. Aren’t you afraid that Ma Lao-er might come after you once the matter is resolved?”

Hearing those words, Yong Dong laughed dryly to himself as he replied, “If I had been the Yong Dong from a week ago, I would have everything from that. But I have already fallen into this state, so what else do I have to fear?”

Qin Yu fell silent.

“Yuan Ke and Fatty Xing are seeking to kill me, so I can’t return to Special District Nine for the time being. There’s also no doubt that my influence in the company is being devoured by those bunch of vultures. In the span of one night, I suddenly became a fugitive. The friends who came to help me ended up losing their lives, and everything that I have built up so far has been in vain,” Yong Dong spoke with an ironic yet bitter tone.

“To be honest, I have wondered many times if I should simply find a tall building nearby and jump off it, but I don’t even have the courage to do so. Hahaha. Perhaps Ma Lao-er’s vengeance would come as liberation to me.”

“What about your family members?”

“I don’t have parents. I only have a daughter left in Songjiang,” Yong Dong’s head slowly lowered as he spoke. There was a tinge of helplessness in his voice. “Sigh. I reckon that those bunch of people have already placed eyes on her. I won’t be able to take her away for the time being.”

“You’re really quite pitiful.”

“Life is a gamble. I was just unlucky to have met a boss like Yuan Hua.” Yong Dong took out a box of cigarettes from his pocket and pulled out a stick. “There’s nothing left but to resign myself to my fate.”

Qin Yu pondered for a moment before saying, “Once the matter is resolved over at Songjiang, you’ll be free to leave.”

Yong Dong took a puff of smoke before he raised his head to look at Qin Yu, saying, “Yuan Hua and Xing Zihao are dead. If you don’t at least settle one of them, this issue will haunt you in the future.”

Qin Yu fell silent once more.

“Shall I stay here and help you?” Yong Dong suddenly suggested with a faint smile on his lips.

There were a few seconds of silence before Qin Yu asked, “Why?”

“Because I can’t stand the notion of it ending just like this.”

“…!”

Qin Yu didn’t respond right away. Instead, he took some time to think over the matter.

Meanwhile, Yong Dong continued looking at Qin Yu smilingly. He waited for a short moment before he added, “I won’t be joining empty-handed. I still have some money on my hand to invest.”

Qin Yu gazed at the ceiling above him for a moment before finally giving a clear reply, “I don’t trust you. Ma Lao-er and the others will find it hard to accept you too. You should leave.”

“True. I’m in quite an awkward position, after all,” Yong Dong nodded to himself before finally rising to his feet. “It’ll be over once everything gets clarified… Let me know once the matter over at Songjiang is resolved. I’ll leave right away.”

“Alright,” Qin Yu replied with a nod.

Yong Dong looked at Qin Yu for a brief moment before muttering quietly, “Thanks.”

“For what?” Qin Yu asked.

“Thanks for standing against all odds to stop Ma Lao-er from killing me.” Yong Dong smiled to himself. “I know that you’re only keeping me around for the indignance raging within me, but I should still thank you for that.”

“Was my judgment spot-on then?” Qin Yu asked softly.

“Hahaha. I must say that you’re really far too shrewd a person,” Yong Dong replied before turning around to leave the room.

After the room’s door closed once more, Qin Yu lay back down on the bed and let out a fatigued yawn.

Several minutes later, Old Cat returned back to the room and asked, “Are you really letting Yong Dong go? Aren’t you worried that Ma Lao-er might kick up a fuss over that?”

“What’s the point of killing Yong Dong? Would it solve our problems?” Qin Yu replied with a deep sigh. “He has devoted himself to the company, only to be thrown out with nothing on hand and plenty of enemies out for his life. Do you think that he’ll let this matter rest that easily? If we leave him be, he might just be able to plunge a dagger into the heart of the Yuan Family some time in the future.”

“I guess that makes sense too.” Old Cat nodded in agreement.

“Besides, the mishap that happened to Maozi and Little Liu is Xing Zihao’s doing, and Uncle Ma was caught in order to shoulder the blame… Yong Dong’s role in everything that has happened is quite minor in comparison,” Qin Yu said. “There’s no need to bite so hard down on him.”

Old Cat sat down on the sofa and crossed his leg. He gave what he had just heard some thought before finally sighing to himself, “Ma Lao-er has really lost too much in this incident. Till now, he still hasn’t fully recovered yet.”

“Uncle Ma would have died in vain if he can’t pull himself back together,” Qin Yu remarked objectively. “But I have trust that he’ll be able to stand up once more.”

While the two of them were chatting, Qi Lin suddenly entered the room and exclaimed, “Qin Yu, Coco sure is thoughtful. She had her people send two frozen chicken over for us to make some soup!”

“Have you boiled it yet?” Hearing those words, Old Cat immediately craned his neck over as if a hound catching onto the scent of delicious food.

“It’s not for you.” Qi Lin rolled his eyes. “That’s reserved for the patients. There isn’t even enough to go around amongst them.”

“Tsk! Fine fine, go ahead and boil it down,” Old Cat stood up as he said. “Just give me their dicks to munch on. I’m really craving meat at the moment…”

“Get lost.”

The following night.

Zhu Wei, who had just secretly returned to Songjiang a while ago, was currently standing in an alley opposite of an illegal casino. He asked with a hushed and discreet tone, “Is the target in there?”

“Yes, he’s there,” a Thai policeman from Squad 3 replied with a nod. “Do we arrest him now?”

Zhu Wei quickly weighed the options before shaking his head, saying, “There are too many people in there. We’ll alarm him if we charge right in.”

“So we’ll continue camping here?”

“Yeah, let’s wait awhile longer.”

“…!”

Just like that, two cars of policemen waited for nearly three hours despite the temperature having plunged down to -40° Celsius before a lad exuding the stench of tobacco walked out from the casino.

“The target is out.”

“How many of them are there?”

“He’s alone.”

“We’ll be making a move now,” Zhu Wei instructed. “We’ll be flanking him from both sides. Pull him into the alley.”

Meanwhile, the lad who had just left the casino trudged along the snowy streets as he grumbled on the phone, “Bloody hell, I lost another 300 dollars. Goddamnit, I’m not coming back tomorrow anymore! Hm? Isn’t the funeral procession for our boss tomorrow? Yes, I’ll be there too. Alright, I got it. If there’s nothing else, see you tomorrow.”

The lad hung up the phone. Just as he was about to cross the street, someone suddenly shouted behind him.

“Liu Chun?”

The lad froze on the spot for half a second before immediately sprinting away.

Peng!

However, a person suddenly charged up from the left and kicked him on his hip.

“Bro, you got the wrong person!” Liu Chun exclaimed in terror as he staggered into a wall from the earlier impact.

Peng peng!

The Thai policeman swung his police baton down on Liu Chun’s head forcefully as he bellowed, “Do you know why we’re capturing you?!”

“I… I don’t know!” Liu Chun cried out as blood trickled down from the top of his head.

“Then how do you know we got the wrong person?”

“…!” Liu Chun clutched onto his head speechlessly.

“Pull him over to the alley and stuff him into our car,” Zhu Wei ordered. “Hurry.”

Meanwhile…

Sitting on a sofa in his home, Zhang Tian was holding onto his phone as he asked, “The second son of the Xing Family has agreed to meet us?”
