Necromancer: I Am A Disaster Chapter 39 - The Cheeky And Shameless Gao Yang

Xia Xue called Gao Yang over.

Seeing Xia Xua and Lin Moyu together, Gao Yang's eyes gleamed, and he revealed a meaningful smile, "You two..."

Xia Xue cut him off sharply, "Shut up, or I'll tear your mouth apart."

Xia Xue was known for her arrogance, and only when she was alone with Lin Moyu did she dial it down a bit. Lin Moyu's demeanor was even colder than hers—if she acted any more haughty, they wouldn’t be able to hold a conversation. But in front of Gao Yang, her temper flared fully.

Startled by her outburst, Gao Yang scratched his head awkwardly, "It was just a joke—don't take it so seriously."

Xia Xue ignored his attempt to smooth things over, "No need to look for a party anymore. Once our cooldown is over, we'll take you along to raid the dungeon. That way, you'll hit level 12 before the great examination."

Gao Yang's eyes widened, and he let out an excited howl, "Really? You two are my saviors!"

"You have no idea—if I don’t reach level 12 before the great examination, I’m not sure if I’ll get into the academy I want. You’re truly good people."

His exaggerated expression earned a frown from Xia Xue, "Keep acting like that, and we won’t take you with us."

Gao Yang immediately straightened up, nodding seriously, "Don’t worry, Young Lady Xia. I promise to behave. If you say go east, I won’t even think about heading west. You say north, I won’t look south."

"Enough with the nonsense. Shut your trap." Xia Xue snorted, and a fireball sparked in her hand, a warning to Gao Yang. If he said something stupid again, she’d gladly launch that fireball at his face.

Gao Yang wisely chose to bite his tongue, speaking cautiously now, "I shall obey. But, uh, how much time is there left for your cooldown to pass?"

Xia Xue calculated quickly, "There’s still 10 hours left."

Although 10 hours seemed like a long wait, but Gao Yang knew it would be difficult to find another party in that time, "Alright, you two rest up. I’ll go hunt some monsters."

Just before he darted off, Gao Yang couldn’t resist adding, "Moyu, you can do it! I believe in you! Sooner or later, you’ll win Xia Xue over!"

He bolted as soon as the words left his mouth.

Xia Xue's face flushed with anger, and she stomped her foot and hurled the fireball. With a loud bang, it exploded just behind Gao Yang, sending a few sparks flying onto him.

"Ahh!" Gao Yang yelped, clutching his scorched behind as he ran off into the distance, disappearing from sight.

Xia Xue stomped her foot again, fuming, "That guy has the most shameless mouth! He deserves a beating."

Lin Moyu silently agreed but couldn’t help but acknowledge that, despite his antics, Gao Yang was a good guy. When others distanced themselves from him, Gao Yang was the only one who still approached him, never discouraged by his cold demeanor. Even though he rarely responded, Gao Yang never took offense.

Lin Moyu couldn’t help but think, "Gao Yang is a real goofball, but he means well."

Ten hours later, Gao Yang returned and joined the party. Lin Moyu assumed the position of party leader and selected the nightmare rank difficulty. The moment they stepped into the dungeon, Gao Yang froze in fear, collapsing onto the ground.

"H-Hey... Young Lady Xia, Boss Lin, why have you brought me into the nightmare rank dungeon?" He stammered, panic seeping into his voice.

Xia Xue snorted, clearly unfazed, "Enough with the nonsense. Just follow along. You’re not going to be fighting anyway."

"Ah?" Gao Yang's face showed a mix of confusion, panic, fear, and other emotions.

Xia Xue glanced at him, wondering if she had reacted the same way her first time entering the dungeon with Lin Moyu. She had been terrified back then too.

Fearing for his life, Gao Yang stuck to Xia Xue like glue, too scared to leave her side. After all, in this nightmare rank dungeon, a single slap from a monster could end him.

But within 10 minutes, the dungeon boss lay dead before them. Gao Yang stared at the fallen creature, his mouth hanging open in disbelief, "It... it... it’s dead?"

Xia Xue glanced at him with an exasperated look, "Would you mind closing your mouth? You’re drooling."

Gao Yang wiped his mouth, then, without warning, hugged Lin Moyu’s thigh and exclaimed with enthusiasm, "Boss, Boss Lin, bring me along whenever you’re going dungeon grinding in the future! I’ll be your lucky charm!"

Xia Xue sighed in exasperation, "How can you be so spineless? You’re a Knight. Act like one!"

Gao Yang shook his head dramatically, "What’s the point of that? With Boss Lin around, there’s nothing knightly left to do!"

Xia Xue gave up, choosing to ignore him altogether. She couldn’t argue with the fact that Lin Moyu’s presence in a dungeon rendered most traditional roles useless.

Just then, Lin Moyu glowed faintly with a soft white light as he leveled up. He had reached level 16—more than enough to secure his admission to Xiajing Academy. After one more dungeon run, Xia Xue would hit level 15, putting her in a strong position for admission as well.

Gao Yang, on the other hand, had more modest goals. His sights were set on Jiangning Academy, a well-regarded academy in their province with much lower entry requirements than Xiajing Academy. A level 12 Knight would qualify to join it.

As the sun began to set, casting long shadows across the land, a group of principals gathered on the southern outwall of Xihai City. They were waiting for the students to return from their final dungeon raids before the great examination tomorrow.

“The children should be making their way back now.”

“Tomorrow’s the day of the great examination. I told them they had to be back by today.”

“I’m curious how this year’s results will turn out.”

“Most of them will be fine. It’s just a question of whether they’ll get into a top-tier academy or not.”

“Old Lu, I heard your two top students are both aiming for Xiajing Academy?”

Lu Yun didn’t take his eyes off the distant wilderness, “Yes, both Moyu and Xia Xue are hoping to be admitted.”

"The competition for Xiajing Academy is fierce. Based on previous years’ requirements, level 15 offers a solid chance, but level 16 practically guarantees it."

"That's hard to meet."

"If it's level 15, there's still hope. But as for level 16, only a handful of students can reach that. In Xihai City, aside from Su Qianxing, only last year's Lin Mohan managed to hit level 16."

"I wonder if your two kids can pull it off."

“I believe in them.” Lu Yun said firmly. Lin Moyu, the younger brother of the academy’s pride, Lin Mohan, and Xia Xue, the cherished daughter of the Xia Family, were both exceptional. If anyone could pull off a miracle, it would be them.

Just then, a figure appeared in the distance.

One of the principals squinted and said, “That’s a student from our No. 3 High School.”

Thanks to the Detection spell, the student's basing information was revealed.

[Xu Zhen, level 12, Sword Champion.]

The principal smiled in satisfaction. After all, level 12 was enough to get into a good academy.

Xu Zhen was a well-known talent at No. 3 High School, often regarded as one of its standout students.

Another principal spoke up, “Wan Ming from our No. 2 High School is back.”

[Wan Ming, level 13, Hawkeye Archer.]

As more students trickled in, the principals on the outwall used the Detection spell.

Each year at this time, the principles seized the opportunity to compete with one another—a battle for honor.
