Necromancer: I Am A Disaster Chapter 38 - Aim To Be The Provincial Top Scorer

After exiting the dungeon, Xia Xue immediately activated the Elementary Cooldown Charm. Just seconds later, the two re-entered the nightmare rank dungeon.

This time, Xia Xue seemed like a completely different person. She ran excitedly alongside Lin Moyu, her expression filled with enthusiasm. Lin Moyu found it a bit odd—what was there to be so excited about?

"It's just gathering monsters and blowing them up. It's a low-level dungeon, nothing special." He thought.

Xia Xue noticed his puzzled look and snapped, "What are you staring at? Never seen a beautiful woman before?"

In fact, he had—he’d seen her for years now. To be fair, Xia Xue was indeed beautiful. If she were compared to Ning Yiyi, it would be hard to decide a winner. They each had their own charms: one petite and cute, the other tall and elegant. Their beauty was distinct, but Lin Moyu didn’t give it much thought. To him, Ning Yiyi was a friend, and Xia Xue was a classmate.

Ten minutes later, the Goblin King, the majestic boss of the nightmare dungeon, collapsed again before Lin Moyu. Its eyes reflected its unwillingness, as if bitter about its demise.

“Four more times to go.” Lin Moyu muttered.

They raided the dungeon four more times. The entire process took less than an hour. By the end, Xia Xue had exhausted the charm’s power. The once radiant Cooldown Charm had turned dull, resembling an ordinary stone. On closer inspection, faint runes could still be seen etched within it.

Xia Xue tucked the charm away, "It needs to be recharged."

The Cooldown Charm wasn’t a disposable item. After its power was depleted, it had to be recharged. But recharging it was a complex process. According to Xia Xue, it required the expertise of a high-level Alchemist, though she wasn’t sure exactly how high their level had to be.

After four consecutive dungeon raids, Xia Xue had reached level 14 (20%). A couple more runs and she would undoubtedly hit level 15. Meanwhile, Lin Moyu remained at level 15, with his EXP bar hitting 85%. After hitting level 15, when raiding the dungeon in a party of two, each dungeon run increased EXP by only 26%. The efficiency had taken a serious hit.

There was still a day and a half left before the great examination, enough time for them to clear the dungeon twice more.

Xia Xue’s eyes sparkled with excitement, "If I can reach level 15 before the great examination, I’m sure I’ll be able to get into Xiajing Academy!" She then glanced at Lin Moyu, "Dummy Lin, are you close to leveling up?"

Lin Moyu nodded, "I am."

For a moment, Xia Xue forgot all about their rivalry, "When you hit level 16, and I hit level 15, we’ll have two students from Xihai City admitted to Xiajing Academy this year! Principal Lu will be thrilled—it’ll be like a dream come true for him."

Getting students into Xiajing Academy was a huge honor for any school and its principal. After all, it was notoriously difficult to gain admission. Only geniuses made it into Xiajing Academy. In fact, being accepted into the academy was what defined someone as a genius in the first place.

Xiajing Academy admitted only 1,000 students per year from across the entire Shenxia Empire, and many of those slots were already claimed by candidates from large cities and influential families. Competing against such talent was no easy feat for students from smaller cities.

When Lin Mohan got into Xiajing Academy last year, Principal Lu Yun celebrated for days. Su Qianxing had been admitted several years ago, and his name was still spoken with pride by Principal Lu, as if it had just happened yesterday.

In short, being accepted into Xiajing Academy was a great honor.

After exiting the dungeon, the two found a quiet spot to sit and rest. With the Cooldown Charm's power exhausted, they had no choice but to wait for the dungeon's cooldown to reset.

Xia Xue broke the silence, "Dummy Lin, why don’t you aim to be the provincial top scorer?"

Lin Moyu turned his head, a bit surprised. "Provincial top scorer?"

"Mhm." Xia Xue nodded, "Becoming the provincial top scorer will earn you a lot of points. Points are extremely valuable at Xiajing Academy. More importantly, it could give you a chance to join the Chuangshen Institute."

Lin Moyu recalled Ning Yiyi mentioning that points were more useful than gold coins at the academy. She had also brought up Chuangshen Institute but hadn't provided much detail.

"Do you know anything about Chuangshen Institute?" Lin Moyu asked, hoping to get some information from Xia Xue.

Xia Xue crossed her legs, pondering for a moment, "I don’t know much either. I just something heard my father mention a few things. Chuangshen Institute is considered the most prestigious institute in the Shenxia Empire. While Xiajing Academy gathers the empire's geniuses, Chuangshen Institute takes only the best of the geniuses."

She paused, then added, "According to my father, it’s extremely difficult to get in. He even said I probably wouldn’t stand a chance. But I think you might. You should give it a try. From what I know, Su Qianxing is the only person from Xihai City who has ever made it into Chuangshen Institute."

Xia Xue looked at Lin Moyu, her eyes glowing with a dazzling shade. She genuinely believed he had a chance. The way he had carried her through the nightmare rank dungeon using an entirely new method was an eye-opener. She could no longer reconcile what she had learned with Lin Moyu's class.

"If there's a chance, I’ll give it a try." Lin Moyu said in a calm, quiet voice. He knew he had to go to Xiajing Academy—it was where his sister, Lin Mohan, was. And if the opportunity arose, he'd try for Chuangshen Institute as well.

Just then, Xia Xue's eyes brightened as she pointed toward the dungeon entrance, "Isn’t that Gao Yang?"

Sure enough, Gao Yang was standing at the entrance, clearly searching for a party. Xia Xue used her Detection skill and chuckled, "Who would've thought? That dummy has reached level 11. It's a shame, but as a Knight, it’ll be tough for him to find a party at that level."

In dungeons, Knights were essential, but they needed to be a certain level to be useful. At level 11, Gao Yang wasn’t strong enough to handle the dungeon’s monsters. Even for the ordinary rank dungeon, a Knight had to be at least level 13 to be useful.

As expected, Gao Yang looked dejected, unable to find a party.

Lin Moyu glanced at Xia Xue and said, "Let’s bring him along."

Xia Xue giggled, "Fine with me."
