I’ll Take That Opportunity Chapter 1 - The Azure Cloud Sect

The Azure Cloud Sect was bustling with activity. A long line of youths, seemingly no older than eighteen, stretched deep into the sect’s grounds.

"Did I... transmigrate?"

A young man standing in line looked around in confusion, his expression a mixture of disbelief and awe.

Suddenly, a torrent of foreign memories flooded his mind. His gaze sharpened as the details clicked into place.

"Holy crap, I really transmigrated into the world of immortal cultivation? And I’m... a handyman who just joined the Azure Cloud Sect?" Ye Lin muttered under his breath.

The world of immortal cultivation—a realm where the strong dictated the fates of millions with a mere whim, and the weak struggled simply to survive.

It was a world driven by the law of the jungle.

"Here, this is yours. Take it."

A middle-aged man in a white robe handed Ye Lin a white pill.

Ye Lin accepted it with a slight nod, stepping out of the line. His recently acquired memories informed him that this was the Qi Gathering Pill, an exclusive resource for the sect’s handymen.

Although the pill was gradeless, it could still fortify the bodies of mortals.

In this world, treasures—apart from Spirit Stones—were classified into five tiers: basic, mystic, earth, heaven, and immortal. Each tier was further divided into low, mid, and high grades.

Clutching the pill, along with the set of clothes and a token he had been given, Ye Lin turned to head toward his assigned quarters.

Just as he was about to leave, a burly man emerged from the opposite direction, his broad shoulders and imposing frame standing out among the crowd.

Ye Lin glanced at the man, his curiosity piqued, but quickly averted his gaze, intending to avoid unnecessary trouble.

However, the man strode directly toward him, stopping in front of him with a frown etched on his face, "Have you received your Qi Gathering Pill?"

Standing before the towering figure, Ye Lin couldn’t help but feel a heavy sense of oppression, as though the air itself had grown denser around him.

"Yes, I have." Ye Lin replied politely.

"Good. Hand it over. It’s your initiation protection fee." The burly man extended a massive hand, his tone leaving no room for negotiation.

Ye Lin raised his head and met the man’s gaze.

Suddenly, a transparent screen appeared before Ye Lin’s eyes.

[Name: Zhang Liang]

[Cultivation base: 3rd layer Qi Refinement]

[Fate grade: white (ordinary)]

[Fate traits: minor luck, astonishing bladesmanship]

[Fate prediction: three years from now, you will descend the mountain for training, provoke a disciple from a major sect, and be mercilessly killed.]

[Upcoming opportunity: while cultivating at night at the back of the mountain, you will discover a pouch containing ten low-grade Spirit Stones beneath a stone stele. After absorbing these Spirit Stones, your cultivation base will rise significantly, reaching the 5th layer Qi Refinement.]

[Minor luck: you will occasionally stumble upon opportunities during outings.]

[Astonishing bladesmanship: you possesses exceptional talent for the blade, progressing rapidly along the path of bladesmanship.]

Ye Lin’s heart skipped a beat. Was this his cheat ability?

He turned his gaze downward, and another screen materialized before him.

[Name: Ye Lin]

[Cultivation base: none]

[Fate grade: black (fraught with calamity)

[Fate traits: shrouded in misfortune, transcendental perception]

[Fate prediction: defiantly refusing to hand over the Qi Gathering Pill will lead to a merciless beating from Zhang Liang, leaving you crippled.]

[Upcoming opportunity: none]

[Shrouded in misfortune: you are prone to accidents and betrayals.]

[Transcendental perception: you possess an incredible ability to grasp cultivation methods, mastering in days what others take months to learn.]

The fate grade was divided into black, white, green, blue, purple, yellow, red, and gold grades.

One’s fate in life was directly tied to their fate grade. Gold fate grade signified a life favored by the heavens, destined for greatness.

Yet, the shrouded in misfortune trait seemed utterly absurd.

It only took Ye Lin a few seconds to absorb the information from the transparent screens. As he was processing his thoughts, another handyman disciple approached from behind.

This newcomer, who had just received his Qi Gathering Pill, wore a cheerful smile, "At least we get pills, even as handyman disciples. Not bad at all."

Before he could walk further, Zhang Liang stepped in to block his path, his large frame radiating an oppressive aura.

"Hand over your pill. It’s the initiation protection fee." Zhang Liang demanded, his tone brooking no argument.

"What? This pill was issued by the sect! And what protection fee? I’ve never heard of such nonsense!"

The disciple challenged Zhang Liang, whose expression darkened in response.

Without wasting words, Zhang Liang stepped forward and snatched the pill from the disciple’s hand, and then delivered a swift kick to his stomach.

The disciple flew backward, crashing to the ground with a heavy thud, kicking up a cloud of dust.

Zhang Liang tucked the pill away as the disciple writhed on the ground, and his cold voice cut through the air, "Why? Because my fist is bigger than yours."

The injured disciple, clutching his stomach, snarled through gritted teeth, "You’ll regret this! I’m Li Ziming, a young master of Tianfeng City's Li Family! You bastard, give me back my pill!"

Zhang Liang sneered at the declaration. He strolled over casually, his foot hovering ominously before slamming down on Li Ziming’s hand.

A sickening crack echoed.

Li Ziming’s blood-curdling scream pierced the air as Zhang Liang lifted his foot, revealing a mangled, bloodied hand.

"Hmph. Don’t forget where you are. Your little mortal power means nothing here."

Zhang Liang turned away, indifferent to the boy’s agony, and faced Ye Lin.

"Now, where’s yours?"

With a reluctant sigh, Ye Lin handed over his Qi Gathering Pill.

Zhang Liang smirked as he pocketed it, "Not bad. Looks like you’ve got some sense. Consider this your protection fee. As long as you’re in the Azure Cloud Sect and remain a handyman, you follow my orders. Got it?"

"Got it." Ye Lin replied with a nod.

Zhang Liang patted Ye Lin’s shoulder with mock camaraderie before walking off.

Ye Lin’s gaze drifted to the crippled figure of Li Ziming, still writhing on the ground in pain. His heart sank. As someone who had just transmigrated into this harsh world, Ye Lin was far from ready to face its brutal realities.

This cruel encounter drove home an unshakable truth—the world of immortal cultivation was a place where the strong trampled the weak without mercy.

Suppressing his emotions, Ye Lin tore his gaze away from the pitiful sight and hurried toward his assigned residence.

When Ye Lin reached the small, shabby thatched cottage, his heart sank further.

Suppressing his dismay, Ye Lin slowly pushed open the creaking wooden door. A puff of dust greeted him.

Setting down his issued clothes and token, Ye Lin rolled up his sleeves and began tidying up.

Time passed swiftly. By the time Ye Lin finished cleaning, the sky had darkened, and stars twinkled across the heavens, their light piercing through the otherwise silent night.

Looking at the now clean and tidy cottage, Ye Lin nodded in satisfaction. The modest space might not be much, but it was livable.

Changing into the uniform and attaching the handyman token, he felt a semblance of belonging. The Azure Cloud Sect had strict rules—handymen were required to wear their uniform and token at all times. Failure to do so risked severe punishment—or worse.

The lives of handymen, Ye Lin understood, were worth less than a pebble on the sect’s massive grounds.

Yet, amidst all this, one thought burned in Ye Lin’s mind, "I need to take Zhang Liang’s opportunity before he does."

Without wasting another moment, Ye Lin stepped out of the cottage, making his way toward the back of the mountain.

The timing was crucial—this part of the Azure Cloud Sect was deserted at this time, allowing him to move unnoticed.

The back of the mountain was a stark contrast to the bustling sect grounds. Overgrown with weeds and shrouded in an eerie silence, it was clear this area had been abandoned for a long time.

This was technically beyond the sect’s grounds, and the lack of management made it a dangerous place. Occasionally, demonic beasts were known to wander in. For an ordinary person, venturing here was courting death.

At the back of the mountain stood a lone, broken stone stele. Ye Lin brushed aside the overgrown weeds and approached it.

Squatting down, he scanned the area around the stele. His heart raced as something orange caught his eye.

"Found it."

A small orange pouch lay hidden at the base of the stone stele. Ye Lin’s eyes lit up as he reached out and grabbed it.

Opening the pouch, his excitement soared. Inside lay ten shiny crystals.

Ye Lin quickly retrieved the ten Spirit Stones and tucked them securely into a fold of his clothing before returning the pouch to its original spot.

The pouch appeared to be a high-quality item, far beyond what an ordinary person could ever hope to own. Taking it as well would be too risky—if someone discovered it, his life could be in danger.

Then, his gaze fell on a nearby pile of demonic beast feces. They looked fresh.

A sly smile crept onto his face as an idea struck him. He scooped up the feces and placed it into the pouch, carefully returning it to its original position.

Satisfied with his work, Ye Lin hurried back toward his residence. The back of the mountain was no place to linger—especially for ordinary people.
