…
That night, Lu Jingyan had a dream.
In the dimly lit room, a man dressed in black was handcuffed to a chair. There was a chain on his neck and his slightly long hair covered his eyes.
There were random tools hung on the wall behind him.
The room was very quiet. The man hung his head and didn’t seem to be breathing.
After a few seconds, the sound of high heels could be heard.
The next second, the door was pulled open and a stream of light entered the room. A woman in a red dress and high heels walked in with a cold and domineering air.
She held a black whip in her hand. Her arms clasped against her chest and she looked down at the man. "Baby, have you thought it through?”
The man was quiet.
The woman chuckled. She used the whip to lift his jaw and looked straight into his eyes. “Do you think you can escape from me?”
The man looked back with a steely expression, determined to fight her to the end.
The woman stepped on the chair, exposing her flawless long leg. She placed a hand on the back of the chair and pushed the man back. In his lowered position, she pulled the chain on his neck, forcing his face close to hers. “I love your expression. The more unwilling you are, the more I want to make you mine.”
The man turned his head away.
The woman didn’t get angry. She moved the whip along his jaw and gradually lowered it, unfastening his buttons bit by bit. “Tsk, you really do have eight packs…”
Right at this moment, the dim room lit up.
Lu Jingyan could see their faces clearly.
It was her and Sheng Xian.
Her eyes shot open.
She laid on the bed, and stared at the familiar bedroom ceiling for a long while before realizing she had been dreaming.
She let out an irritated sigh.
What kind of dream was that?
It was such an infuriating scene and what's with the kinky foreplay?
I must be a pervert.
The bedroom windows were shut and the room was dark. As it was the weekend, she didn’t set an alarm and didn’t know what time it was.
She tried to digest the dream before reaching around the bed for her phone.
It was only seven in the morning. There was still time so she scrolled through the various social media.
Out of habit, she checked the hot search first.
The hot search list was a little different today. Aside from celebrities, influencers and funny videos, there was a current affair news article.
What’s with the trend these days? Why are reporters always sending out breaking news in the middle of the night?
The news had sparked a lot of conversation. A female high school student had been stealing from her roommates, and the total sum stolen was in the thousands.
According to the victim, she lost money almost every month and had reported the theft to the management multiple times but the thief was never found. The victim suspected her roommate as she had borrowed her keys to return back to the dorm room while everyone else was out on a group activity. That night, when she returned to the dorm room, the money was gone.
The news was a hot search as many netizens recalled losing money during their school days but didn’t manage to find the culprit. Some also claimed to know the culprit but couldn't do anything as they didn’t have evidence.
There were more than a few righteous netizens claiming that these people weren’t qualified to attend university and that the school should fire them. They also suggested the victim report the case to the police.
In today’s digital era, once a topic becomes viral, it would attract countless netizens.
This news was released a few hours ago but there were already reporters conducting interviews at the highschool.
The victim is known as student Yang.
According to the other students, Student Sun did not like to attend paid class activities. She was very thrifty and could wear the same pair of shoes for three years and always seemed to lack money. But recently, she bought a new handphone.
Student Yang came from a wealthier family, and seems to be given a lot of allowances. She was generous to the other students and would often treat her friends to meals.
Such interviews placed Student Sun on the lower end. Even though the police investigations were still ongoing, the commotion online already concluded that Student Sun was the thief.
Lu Jingyan glanced at the comments briefly, they were all against Student Sun.
“So what if she’s poor? Is that a reason to steal money? Do people still use poverty as a reason for theft?”
“She’s already an adult and stealing is a crime. She needs to be punished by the law!”
“Recommend for the police to intervene and for the school to deal with her.”
“……”
…
Lu Jingyan didn’t take the news to heart. She lazed in bed till she got hungry before heading to the bathroom to wash up and head down.
Auntie Sun had prepared breakfast but she wasn’t home.
Lu Jingyan thought she had gone grocery shopping and hadn’t bothered much. She sat on the dining table and filled her stomach. Once she was done with her meal, she headed upstairs to watch television and nap.
The next time she woke up, it was noon. She walked downstairs and heard Auntie Sun’s voice.
She was on a call, speaking very softly.
When Auntie Sun heard footsteps, she turned. Seeing Lu Jingyan, she hurriedly hung up. “Miss Lu, do you want lunch?”
Lu Jingyan nodded and entered the dining area.
Auntie Sun walked into the kitchen and served her lunch.
While she was eating, Auntie Sun didn’t leave and looked as though she had something to say.
The moment Lu Jingyan was done with her meal and had placed the chopsticks down, Auntie Sun passed her a napkin.
Lu Jingyan glanced up at her. “Thank you.”
Auntie Sun pressed his lips together, hesitating. “Miss Lu.”
“Mmh?”
Auntie Sun remained quiet.
Lu Jingyan glanced at her.
Auntie Sun fisted her hands, “Miss Lu, I need your help. Could you remove my daughter’s hot search? The app is yours, could you help with it? My daughter didn’t steal money but now, the whole world is calling her a thief.”
Lu Jingyan was caught off guard.
Student Sun is Auntie Sun’s daughter.
“Miss Lu, I know my request seems very sudden but it hurts to see so many people scolding her on the internet. Could you help me…”
“I’m sorry, I can’t.” Lu Jingyan regained her senses, and cut her off calmly. “Those hot searches are generated from the frequency of searches on the topic, I can’t take their rights away.”
Auntie Sun’s eyes turned red immediately. She lowered her head and wiped a tear. “It’s alright Miss Lu, I understand.”
Lu Jingyan stayed silent. She stood up and left the dining area.
Back in her room, she realised she had left her phone downstairs.
Upon reaching the first floor, she heard Auntie Sun talking to her daughter. “Mummy believes you, don’t cry. I told you, I'm here for you, I will definitely find a solution.”
“...”
“Mummy really believes you, you are mummy's little girl. Why wouldn’t I believe you?”
…
Lu Jingyan paused. She leaned against the wall and listened as Auntie Sun comforted her daughter.
It brought her back to a time in elementary school when she had an argument with a classmate. She couldn’t recall the specifics of the argument but she knew it wasn’t her fault. Her classmate fell and blamed her for it.
That classmate cried pitifully causing everyone in class to think she had been bullying her.
Both their parents were called to school. Her classmate’s parents arrived very quickly, and were very fierce to her, scolding her for using violence. That day, her parents were both in Beijing but neither of them came. In the end, only her father’s secretary came.
No one sought out the truth, her father’s secretary was just there to apologize and discuss the compensation amount.
The Lu family has money. Her principal and teachers wouldn’t make things difficult if they could donate money to the school.
Her classmate’s parents didn’t want to make things ugly so the matter passed quickly.
That day when she arrived home, she saw her mother hurrying out. She called out to her, wanting to tell her about the accusation but her mother cut her off swiftly.
After twenty years, she could still remember her words.
“Lu Jingyan, behave when you’re in school. Me and your father are very busy, stop causing us trouble.”
