I'll Still Love You Tomorrow Chapter 33: I Want to Enter Your Fish Tank

“The receipt.”

She was just making things official.

Receipts were required after a transaction was made.

It was perfectly reasonable.

Sheng Xian hadn’t expected the elementary school student to make that move and was caught off guard.

Once she had successfully stumped him, she arched her brows and asked, “Why? Are you going to avoid paying taxes?”

Sheng Xian glanced down, “No, I’ll pass it to you another day.”

“Oh, when is another day?”

Before he could reply, Lu Jingyan moved her face close to him. Without feeling the least bit embarrassed, she smiled and asked, “The day I really want to see you?”

“……”

Since he didn’t reply, she took it as consent and slowly sat upright. She played with the prints on the sofa and asked, “Do you have a date tonight.”

Sheng Xian asked, “Mmh?”

“Why else would you be in a hotel?”

“……”

The previous time he met Bo Mu in a cafe, she had thought it was a date.

This time he had appeared in a hotel, she also thought that it was a date.

Sheng Xian was curious as to how he had given off such an impression for her to continuously make such inaccurate assumptions.

Chen Kai had invited him to the hotel to help a friend he met through the internet with her mother’s divorce case.

After meeting the mother, Sheng Xian realized she had no intention of getting a divorce, it was a unilateral decision made by Chen Kai’s internet friend.

It was because her father had been hitting her mother for more than ten years. Chen Kai’s internet friend couldn’t take it any longer and had set up an appointment with the lawyer behind her mother's back.

The internet friend spent more than half the meeting convincing her mother to get a divorce.

Soon, the both of them started arguing and in a fit of anger, her mother slapped her. Her daughter was probably enraged by her mother’s uselessness, she cupped her cheek and spilled all the secrets.

Her father had wanted to divorce her mother for a long time and had been transferring their assets secretly over the years.

If her mother continued to put up with him, it wouldn’t be long before she lost both her money and her marriage.

The mother of Chen Kai’s internet friend was a very traditional woman that didn’t have many connections. Aside from accompanying her husband to events to act as a loving couple, she would spend all her time on her children and household matters.

Her mother endured the abuse all these years because of her daughter and because she had never worked before and was afraid she wouldn’t be able to survive without her husband's money.

She wasn’t afraid that her husband would divorce her, she was afraid her daughter would leave her. Since her husband was prepared to divorce, she had to prepare for her future. Once she had decided to get a divorce, she first needed to get custody of her underaged daughter who was still in her third year of highschool. Next, she would need money.

From a financial point of view, her husband was more likely to get custody of her daughter but domestic violence was a consideration for the breakdown of a marriage and for deciding the divorce alimony. At the same time, domestic violence was not a conducive environment for the development of an underaged girl, so there was a good chance the mother would get custody of her daughter.

After a detailed conversation, Sheng Xian realized that the abuse had happened many times over the last ten years and she had never left any evidence.

Her husband was a very careful person, he didn’t allow her to visit the hospital for small injuries and in the times that he went too far, causing her to faint, he would engage a private doctor. In order to protect the marriage, she would tell the doctor and indicate in the medical certificate that she had accidentally fallen down.

After listening to the entire story, the wife wouldn’t have any advantage should she ask for a divorce.

It was a difficult case.

After getting their contact details, Sheng Xian and Chen Kai went to the washroom.

That was when he bumped into Lu Jingyan, who was in a fight.

That made his head hurt even more.

Seeing his silence, she thought that she had gotten it right and scoffed.

Sheng Xian returned to his senses and glanced at her seemingly displeased expression, “I’m here for work.”

“Oh.” She replied, but he was uncertain if she had believed him.

Sheng Xian fell silent for a few seconds before adding, “Chen Kai’s internet friend’s mother wants to get a divorce.”

Lu Jingyan eyed him and said, “You must have used your looks to get business.”

Sheng Xian, “?”

She replied slowly, “If not, why are all your clients female?”

Sheng Xian, “...”

He said too much.

Aside from this case, Lu Jingyan had almost forgotten the flurry of messages she accidentally saw on the day they had supper.

They only met a couple of times and the first time, he was with a girl by the roadside.

Next, it was Bo Mu.

And now, it was a child’s mother.

Even though it was work, it bothered her.

Lu Jingyan scoffed again, “You’re pretty good at rearing.”

Sheng Xian looked at her in bewilderment, “What do you mean?”

Lu Jingyan, “Fishes.”

“……”

Sheng Xian didn’t know what she was referring to.

Lu Jingyan knew these scum, nine out of ten of them were master fish owners, and the worst one had eight dates on valentine's day.

She couldn’t help feeling bothered.

It was late so he cut her off unilaterally, “If there’s nothing else, I’ll…”

Hearing this, the already displeased Lu Jingyan threw her pillow and grabbed his collar, pulling him forward.

She moved abruptly, as though she was about to hit him.

Sheng Xian froze for about five seconds before glancing down at the hand at his collar.

It was too late when she realized what she had done.

She looked at Sheng Xian’s face, and back to her hand. Her mouth fell open.

Lu Jingyan, you must be crazy.

Even if you are displeased, how can you strike him!

Lu Jingyan blinked, she swallowed and pretended to be calm as she released her grip slowly. She looked at his questioning gaze and twirled the top of his collar with one finger, “Gege, I have something to tell you.”

“It’s a secret.”

With that, she went closer towards his ear, her voice soft and tender, “Gege, I want to enter your fish tank, can you give me a chance?”
