Chapter 470 - The Dragonkind’s Battle Puppets
Through the craggy plains of the Demon Region, a figure traversed its harsh climate unceasingly.
Numerous wounds that couldn’t be fully healed covered the figure’s body, but there was a proud unyielding light that shone in its eyes.
Right now, it was being pursued by multiple chasers.
A crack in the plains came into view and the figure darted in without hesitation. Several twists and turns on the rock face revealed an indent that would shield it from view.
Suddenly, the figure stopped and held its breath. Whatever aura it exuded diminished until it fell into non-existence.
Shu! Shu! Shu!
Several figures appeared overhead beside the crack the figure darted in.
“Where is it!?”
“I last sensed it here!”
“Maybe it went in there!” One figure said, pointing at the crack.
“Follow!”
Without a word more, they rushed into the crack and the figure’s heart clenched upon seeing this.
Whoosh!
“Aahh!”
Without warning, a shredding wind descended followed by screams, and the figure only saw pieces of flesh falling from where the pursuers were not long ago.
“You’ve been living a hard life, aren’t you?”
“!”
A chill ran up the figure's spine and it retreated to the far end of the cave and stared at the sudden intruder.
It was a beautiful navy blue-skinned demon. Ebony hair fell like a waterfall all the way to her lower back. A sole horn from her forehead was covered in runes, however, some flowed like water with a gentle pulsating light whilst others remained stationary and dim.
It was no one else but Zi Yu. In her hand, she held a fan where the faintest specks of blood remained.
She quickly flashed it, and it was as pristine as ever. It was the same spiritual artefact that Long Di had appropriated from the Monarch Gale Crow.
Zi Yu looked at the being before her and an expression of disdain appeared before she quickly suppressed it.
“You’re Yuanshi Yi, right?” Zi Yu asked.
That’s right, the demon that was being chased, that Zi Yu saved was Yuanshi Yi, the Mofang Dao that Long Di helped back in the Spiritual Bingqi Realm.
She stood there, tall, towering above demons her own age. Anxiety-filled frog-like eyes darted from left to right fuelled by an unholy level of paranoia.
Her beautiful light brown skin, which sported a diamond pattern all over was peppered with countless wounds. Sword strikes and other injuries ran rampant on her body.
Her hair, as wild and as unkempt as ever, hid part of her face, but she didn’t allow Zi Yu to leave her line of sight. There was only one person in the world that she allowed herself to put her guard down around but it seems like he forgot about her.
Figures, she was never someone who people put their faith in for long. Either that, or they used her and threw her away, much like the rest of her kind. Of course, the most standard response was a kill-on-sight order.
That was what her pursuers wanted to do. Of course, she didn’t expect anything good from Zi Yu. Sure, she saved her, but for what purpose?
It never ended well for her. Especially since she didn’t utilise that shameful technique of her race.
“Lady Yaomu Shou gave down an order for me to invite you to a sect where you can be safe.”
“Yaomu Shou?” Yuanshi Yi’s face evinced confusion.
Zi Yu’s expression darkened. “Careful Mofang Dao! That is the Young Miss of the Yaomu family.”
Yuanshi Yi flipped through the pages of her memory. She could only remember seeing one demon who was a member of the Yaomu family.
That was the Yuan Demon who accompanied Long Di.
‘She’s the young miss of the Yaomu Family? Why was someone as important as her travelling with a human like Long Di? Wait, if she was travelling with Long Di, and she specifically asked for me, then does that mean that Long Di didn’t forget me?’
Her heart suddenly warmed at the thought of it.
“Well, let’s go.”
Hearing Zi Yu’s voice and the boundless arrogance that suffused each word, dispelled that warmth just as quickly.
“You think that just because you said someone from the Yaomu Family called for me, I should just come along? Do you take me for a fool!?”
Zi Yu’s eyes narrowed. “Hmph! You think you’re worthy for the Yaomu Family to scheme against!? You think too highly of yourself! This is for your own good! Honestly, I was surprised to learn of your… identity, but regardless, I must fulfil my mission.”
“I refuse!” Yuanshi Yi spat out. She hated dealing with these arrogant young masters and mistresses the most.
Also, just because someone from the Yaomu family called for her didn’t mean that it came from the same Yuan Demon. Even if it came from the same Yuan Demon, it didn’t mean that it ultimately came from Long Di either.
Long Di was the only person she trusted, and that Yuan Demon wasn’t precisely the kindest person to her either. So barring Long Di, these options didn’t fill her with a lot of confidence.
“Fine! Stay here and rot for all I care!” Zi Yu turned around and immediately left.
She jumped from the crack and started her trek to return to what was once the Blood Crypt Sect.
She only came here because of the remnant orders she got from Yaomu Shou before the latter went dark from within the Yaomu Family.
Her mind descended into thoughts about how she could help Jia Yan more.
Suddenly, her senses prickled, and she looked behind her to see Yuanshi Yi there.
“What, did you decide to follow me!?” Zi Yu coldly asked.
Yuanshi Yi snorted before responding. “Do you own the whole plains!? Just because I’m behind you means that I’m following you!? You think too highly of yourself.”
Zi Yu was slightly startled that Yuanshi Yi used her words against her, but then her expression soured right after.
“Just like a Mofang Dao,” she muttered under her breath.
“What?” Yuanshi Yi didn’t quite hear what she said.
“Nothing,” Zi Yu wasn’t going to make this trip any more insufferable than it had to be. So she remained silent and the person behind her did the same.
At the end of the day, Jia Yan was going to need allies for what she was sure he would choose to shoulder. Even if he didn’t, she would be there for him all the same.
“We all need allies right now.”
That was something Yuanshi Yi clearly heard and that Zi Yu didn’t whisper. It spoke true for both of them in very different yet similar ways.
