I’ll Take That Opportunity Chapter 30 - Obtaining The Phoenix Egg

The corridor was dark, its walls etched with mysterious runes, their meanings long lost. Ye Lin had no idea how long he had been walking when a faint glimmer appeared ahead. A surge of joy filled him, and he quickened his pace.

The tunnel opened suddenly into a vast chamber. Above, strange crystals glittered on the ceiling like stars. At the center of the space stood a massive crimson egg, half as tall as a man, resting silently atop a stone altar.

A ninety-nine-step staircase led up to the altar. Around it stood five towering stone pillars, each crowned with flickering violet-red flames.

Ye Lin began to climb. With each step, the pressure on his body doubled.

“Is this some kind of test?” He wondered.

The pressure was manageable at first. But by the ninetieth step, sweat drenched his body. Each movement felt like lifting a mountain.

“No—I must persevere. That’s a phoenix chick. I can’t give up now.”

Teeth clenched, Ye Lin forced himself to continue climbing. Suddenly, the entire space blazed with light. The violet-red flames atop the pillars erupted, surging toward him.

“Crap!”

Ye Lin’s expression twisted in alarm. He instinctively reached for his sword talisman. But before he could act, the Spirit Fire within his dantian burst forth, greedily devouring the onrushing flames.

“A breakthrough?” His eyes widened as the Spirit Fire above him pulsed and grew stronger, absorbing the violet-red flames without restraint.

The high-grade mystic-tier Spirit Fire was evolving, on the verge of breaking through to the earth-rank.

Without hesitation, Ye Lin sprinted toward the altar.

Boom!

A deafening crash echoed behind him. The five stone pillars crumbled one after another. The Spirit Fire, now hovering quietly in the air, radiated a devastating aura.

At its center, a phoenix phantom emerged.

In the blink of an eye, the Spirit Fire morphed into a blazing crimson phoenix phantom and dove straight into Ye Lin’s body.

His entire form flushed red as overwhelming power surged through him, propelling him forward. He stumbled up the final steps, reaching the altar at last.

“This is...”

Astonished, Ye Lin sensed a phoenix phantom now residing in his dantian, circling the coalesced mass of spirit qi at its center. Every so often, it playfully nipped at it.

“Low-grade earth-tier Spirit Fire? Phoenix Fire?”

He was stunned. His Spirit Fire had evolved into the Phoenix Fire, the companion fire of the ancient divine beast phoenixes. Even though it was just a lesser version, it was incredibly powerful. Among low-grade earth-tier Spirit Fires, it stood at the peak.

After all, in its prime, Phoenix Fire was an immortal fire.

“I’ve struck gold!”

Ye Lin grinned. With the Phoenix Fire empowering him, he would be nearly invincible in the Qi Refinement realm.

Then he remembered the phoenix egg.

Turning to it, he beheld the massive crimson egg, etched with a flowing, mystical pattern. It was breathtaking.

But something was off.

“Why... why is there no breath of life?”

“Could it be dead? That’s impossible. According to the panel, Lin Zisheng is supposed to hatch the phoenix chick. What’s going on?”

Ye Lin frowned, deep in thought. There was no breath of life inside the giant egg—none at all. It was like a dead shell.

He circled the stone altar, carefully inspecting every angle.

Tap, tap, tap.

Suddenly, footsteps echoed from the tunnel behind him. Ye Lin's expression changed. With no time to think, he grabbed the egg and darted into the rubble below.

The collapsed stone pillars had left the area littered with boulders. He hid in a gap between them, completely hidden from view.

"Lin Zisheng?"

Peering through a crack, Ye Lin saw the figure enter the chamber—it was indeed Lin Zisheng.

"So someone’s already been here?"

Lin Zisheng frowned at the ruins, scanning the area before climbing the steps with ease. With the five stone pillars destroyed, no trial remained to bar his path.

He reached the stone altar and placed his hand upon it. Instantly, a crimson light shot into his forehead, as if a mechanism had been triggered.

Without a word, Lin Zisheng sat cross-legged, eyes closed.

Three hours passed.

Ye Lin waited in silence beneath the rubble. He knew he couldn't match Lin Zisheng right now. With the phoenix egg in hand, hiding was his best bet.

"High-grade heaven-tier cultivation method—Phoenix Recreation Heavenly Art?"

Lin Zisheng suddenly opened his eyes and let out a mighty cry. Behind him, a blazing red phoenix phantom materialized, radiating power.

Ye Lin: "..."

Watching from the rubble, Ye Lin was speechless. So this was the so-called child of destiny? It was terrifying.

He had nearly destroyed the altar earlier and still triggered nothing. Yet Lin Zisheng merely touched it and was rewarded with a high-grade heaven-tier cultivation method.

"Hahaha! This trip wasn’t in vain. In the future of heaven and earth, there will surely be a place for me, Lin Zisheng!"

"Even if it’s just an incomplete version, it’s still high-grade heaven-tier. That’s more than enough to cultivate to the Immortal realm."

Beaming with joy, Lin Zisheng looked around one final time. Finding nothing else of value, he dusted himself off and left the cavern.

Only after he was gone did Ye Lin push aside the stone slab above him and crawl out, clutching the phoenix egg.

He had just witnessed the terrifying reality of a child of destiny, someone who had heaven itself handing them opportunities.

"Incomplete version? Phoenix Recreation Heavenly Art is the phoenix clan’s legacy technique. If I can hatch this egg, I might obtain the complete version."

"The phoenixes are divine beasts. If even an incomplete version of their legacy reaches high-grade heaven-tier, then the complete version must be unimaginably powerful."

After all, high-grade heaven-tier techniques were so rare that even some immortal sects might not have one.

"But walking around with this is way too conspicuous. Let’s see if it can be stored in the Interspatial Ring."

Muttering to himself, Ye Lin activated his ring. In the next instant, the egg vanished.

"Phew, good. It can be stored. Once I’m out of here, I’ll figure out how to hatch you."

The Interspatial Ring could only store inanimate things, confirming once again that there was no breath of life in the egg.

"If Lin Zisheng was destined to hatch you, then you’re not truly dead. I’ll figure it out slowly once I’m out."

With one last glance at the egg resting in the ring, Ye Lin turned and walked out of the cavern.
