Chapter 524: Lend Me Your Brain
"The first and third opportunities can be taken early, but the second is too dangerous. Best to leave it for now."
Ye Lin studied Lin Zisheng’s panel and made up his mind. The second opportunity involved an encounter with a deviant devil, a being even Lin Zisheng couldn't defeat. If Ye Lin went, it would be a death sentence. Lin Zisheng was a child of destiny; even if he met the deviant devil, he’d survive. Ye Lin, on the other hand, wasn't so lucky.
Shaking his head, Ye Lin abandoned the idea. There would be plenty of opportunities in the future; no need to risk his life on this one.
Standing in the sky, Lin Zisheng kept his gaze locked on Ye Lin.
"So that's the one who beat your younger brother?"
The five personal disciples hovered in the sky on flying swords. One of them noticed Lin Zisheng’s intense stare, followed his line of sight, and frowned when he saw Ye Lin.
They’d all heard about Lin Ziyou's defeat.
"Yes."
Lin Zisheng’s lips moved slightly before he looked away. His brother had been beaten into unconsciousness. That debt would be repaid.
Just then, an elder’s voice echoed through the air.
"Alright, the Inner Sect Secret Realm is now open. Head in quickly. Remember, it only stays open for three days. You must return before it closes."
"If you don’t, the secret realm will shut, and the next opening won’t be for another ten years."
"Alright, the Inner Sect Secret Realm is now open. Enter quickly. It will remain open for three days. Anyone who fails to return before it closes will be trapped inside for ten years!"
All of a sudden, a shimmering purple curtain of light appeared over the cave entrance. At an elder's words, the disciples surged forward, vanishing one by one into the secret realm.
Ye Lin withdrew his gaze and made his way toward the entrance. His plan was simple: steal Zhao Li’s opportunity first, then seize those meant for the child of destiny.
After the inner disciples had entered, the five personal disciples descended leisurely from their swords and followed.
"Such dense spirit qi."
Upon entering the secret realm, Ye Lin found himself surrounded by a lush woodland of towering trees and thick grass. The astonishing concentration of spirit qi took him by surprise—it was several times denser than what he had experienced in the Inner Sect.
The other disciples who had entered ahead of him had already scattered, rushing in different directions and vanishing into the woods.
"According to the panel, Zhao Li’s opportunity lies in the Blazing Valley. Judging by the name, it must be a place of extreme heat."
It was Ye Lin’s first time in the secret realm, and he had no prior knowledge of its terrain. In fact, none of the disciples were familiar with it. Each disciple of the Azure Cloud Sect’s Inner Sect was granted only a single chance to enter the secret realm in their lifetime. Most, like him, were wandering blindly.
After carefully sensing the area, Ye Lin began moving east. With his 8th layer Qi Refinement cultivation base, his sensitivity to environmental changes was exceptional. The eastern direction felt noticeably warmer than the others.
He advanced swiftly, yet curiously, he hadn’t encountered a single living creature.
"The temperature’s rising..."
After traveling for about an hour, Ye Lin noticed the surrounding temperature increasing rapidly. He figured he must be getting close.
Half an hour later, he halted before a narrow valley. A faint smile played on his lips.
A small valley stretched ahead. Its crimson-glowing walls radiated waves of intense heat.
"This must be the Blazing Valley. Now, where are the Fire Spirit Stones?"
As he stepped forward, the ground beneath him grew hotter, and his shoes began to release smoke.
Inside the valley, a cave came into view, flames flickering around its entrance like restless serpents. At its center, three radiant crystals glimmered amidst the fire.
"Found them."
Seeing this, Ye Lin was overjoyed. Green flames surged around him as he stepped forward.
While the cave's fire was ordinary, the flames enveloping him were Spirit Fire, a force on an entirely different level.
As he approached the crystals, Ye Lin extended a hand wreathed in Spirit Fire. The surrounding flames shrank back instantly, and he effortlessly claimed the three Fire Spirit Stones.
To his surprise, the Dire Spirit Stones weren’t hot at all. In fact, they exuded a soothing feeling that spread through his hand.
At that moment, Ye Lin sensed a stir in his dantian. The Spirit Fire pulsed eagerly, expressing a strong desire.
"Don’t worry. They’ll be yours soon. I’ll refine them once we leave the secret realm."
He placed the Fire Spirit Stones into his Interspatial Ring.
Spirit Fire, nurtured by the forces of heaven and earth, could eventually develop sentience if it reached a high enough grade.
Having secured the Fire Spirit Stones, Ye Lin left the Blazing Valley.
"Next… Phoenix Valley." He gazed into the distance and muttered to himself.
That was the true highlight: the phoenix chick. The phoenixes, one of the three kinds of great divine beasts of ancient times, were said to possess the power to split heaven and earth. Even as a hatchling, it was a being not to be underestimated. Once matured, it would be an incomparable asset.
"But where is Phoenix Valley? Blazing Valley was easy to find by tracking the heat. This one... not so simple."
Back in the woods, Ye Lin frowned in thought.
Then, his expression shifted. Without a sound, he dropped to the ground, hiding in the tall grass. He looked up.
A figure in white robes soared across the sky on a sword.
“Is that… Lin Zisheng?"
Seeing the man’s face, Ye Lin whispered to himself.
“Lin Zisheng is heading south. According to legend, the Azure Dragon rules the east, the Black Tortoise the north, the Vermilion Bird the south, and the White Tiger the west.”
“If he’s going south, then Phoenix Valley must be in that direction.”
With that realization, Ye Lin dashed southward. His speed rivaled Lin Zisheng’s, who was soaring through the sky on his sword.
Suddenly, Lin Zisheng came to an abrupt halt and descended toward the ground.
“He stopped? Did he discover a treasure? As expected of a child of destiny.”
He glanced briefly in Lin Zisheng’s direction, but didn’t linger. He couldn’t afford to slow down, not when every second counted. He had to reach Phoenix Valley first.
As he raced through the woods, Ye Lin witnessed just how frightening a child of destiny’s luck could be. Lin Zisheng repeatedly landed and took off again, and each time, Ye Lin assumed he’d stumbled upon some spirit treasure.
Fortunately, moving through the dense woods, Ye Lin remained hidden from Lin Zisheng’s notice.
“Lin Zisheng landed half an hour ago and still hasn’t reappeared. He must’ve found something big. Good. That buys me some time.”
After three hours, a towering mountain came into view, a dark cave yawning at its base. Excitement surged through Ye Lin’s chest.
“This has to be Phoenix Valley. Is the phoenix egg inside that cave? I have to check it out.”
Sword talisman gripped tightly in his hand, he stepped carefully into the cave. If danger arose, he would activate it without hesitation.
In this vast world, life was the most precious thing. Once you died, you lost everything.
Stepping into the cave, Ye Lin found a long corridor stretching out before him. Without hesitation, he followed it.
