Shen Ling, Mina, and Xiannu Liang all looked at him with the most incredulous looks.

“Come again!?”

****

Long Di dared to say he was the kind of guy to ask permission!?

Him!?

The boy did everything without consent and only asked AFTER the fact!

Mina clearly remembered when Long Di hooked up the Anima Palace with DSL without her consent. Shen Ling also recalled when Long Di injected lightning qi into her body during their fight against that Bronze Seat in the forest.

For heaven’s sake, the boy not too long ago went ahead and had his cultivation technique be declared a cultivation technique without consent from the Heavens!

Which part of him was the guy that asked for permission!?

Sun Zixin choked with emotions upon learning he could join Heavenly Sun School. “Senior brother Long Di, thank you! I–”

Long Di interrupted him right there. “I’m not good with emotions. Mostly because I’ve been told I don’t have any. So none of that. Just go wordlessly with your siblings and don’t waste this chance or whatever.”

“Don’t worry Senior Brother Long Di!” Sun Zixin spoke loudly. “I won’t let you down. Once I get strong enough, all you have to do is call for me and I’ll ascend a mountain of swords and cross a sea of flames for you!”

“I don’t swing that way, but I am flattered,” Long Di then patted Lord Whiskers, and the latter crouched so the Sun siblings could slide down his body with relative ease.

Heavenly Sun Noble took them under her charge and led them to the entrance to of the carriage.

“Get in,” Qin Ling uttered coldly.

The Sun siblings didn’t say anything more and boarded the ice carriage. Heavenly Sun Noble turned to Mad Sword Haoran and whispered something in his ear before he took a step back and said something to Jingyi Yu in turn.

Heavenly Sun Noble then boarded the ice carriage, but not before she turned back to look at Long Di.

“I’ll be back,” she declared before she disappeared within.

Pebbles tapped Long Di’s head, and when he got the latter’s attention he asked. “Is it just me or did she remind you of the Terminator?”

“The second one?” Long Di asked.

“Like any other exists?” Pebbles shot back.

“Obviously, you have the firs–”

“I wanna respect you for the rest of my days. Don’t do this,” Pebbles said before Long Di could finish what he wanted to say.

“So Firecracker,” Long Di turned his attention to Violet Flame Noble thereafter. Where is that Ren’duan Dwelling you told me about?”

He then pointed in a particular direction, and Long Di urged Lord Whiskers to take off.

Shu!

Lord Whisker stretched his legs before he took off at a startling speed.

Qin Ling only spared it a glance before she entered the ice carriage and closed the door behind her.

It silently floated where it was as the temperature around it fell. Without warning, it then turned around and moved in another direction before its speed exploded and it was gone in an instant.

Mad Sword Haoran, Jingyi Yu and Black Fortress Guo Da then left shortly after as well. It didn’t take long before the other young geniuses that filled the city began filing out at the last.

They left the members of Golden Lion Gate to pick up after themselves.

The Grand Elder looked over at the wreckage and sighed to himself. They would need to rebuild for sure, and no doubt it would take some time.

The disciples and the other elders that were still alive all gathered, looking at him for guidance… for leadership.

As soon as he was about to open his mouth to speak, something tickled at the back of his throat.

The number of disciples present was oddly lacking. His eyes scanned the surroundings as he tried to find the rest that was hopefully making their way over.

As his eyes roamed, a prominent bloodstain drew his attention. Yes, there were so many of those today.

No…

This one was different somehow.

That bloodstain…

“Wait…” his heart started to beat faster. “W-Where is the Sect Master?”

Those present heard his question and saw that the place where the Sect Master was, was empty. The bloodstain was the only thing that averred his presence there, or at least it did.

Something else dawned on him. Something that shouldn’t but somehow seemed to link to the missing corpse of their Sect Master.

“Why is it so quiet?” He noticed for some time now.

He looked over the wreckage of the sect into the city, and a disturbing scene presented itself.

The city… was empty.

Apart from the occasional cultivator that walked the street to leave with the others, it was deathly silent. Even the experts still leaving felt something… off about everything. They subconsciously quickened their pace to leave this place.

Something in the wind evinced worry for some reason, it sapped hope in a way, life even.

Where did this feeling come from? And it grew as the seconds ticked on.

What is this?

Suddenly, it appeared. It shouldn’t have been hard to spot, but it was. It took residence in a place so naturally that it was unnerving. The thing is, now that it was spotted it was undeniably and wholly as unnatural as anything could be.

A coffin in the middle of the main street, as if it was there all along, laid flat and open.

Grand Elder Jin Ya’s eyes narrowed at the strange thing, and a flicker of movement caught his eye as black liquid spilt from it.

It overflowed as if someone relentlessly poured into it the contents of the sea. However, this was no clear thing that overflowed, it was inky black and carried a smell of deep rot.

“R-Run!”

The first shout hammered his senses, and he looked all around to see people running past him in a panic to leave the city. This included elders and disciples alike.

When he looked back, he found that this liquid had somehow grown in both volume and temperament. Its speed was vicious and any unfortunate soul it had splashed upon, would find their vitality leeched from them as easily as the lifeblood flowed from their late Sect Master.

The speed of the spread was too quick, too swift for most to escape.

The scene of that expert laying emaciated on the tournament ground came back to him with startling alacrity.

Then he saw him, a figure with the cowl drawn over, standing beside the coffin.

Grand Elder Jin Ya couldn’t make out much, but the hints of a smile were there. Pride in his work, probably.

The old elder lost sight of him just as quickly as the tsunamic wave of the black water rose and came crashing down on what was once a lively place to purloin what made it so.
