Chapter 391: Letter
Aurora stood at the foot of the bed, smiling.
It’s a trap!
"You... don't—"
Before Xing Mo could finish, Aurora leapt onto the bed and wrapped her in a tight embrace.
"Hehe~ My little pillow, feeling all empty without spiritual force?" Her heart-shaped pupils pulsed.
She leaned in close, breath warm against Xing Mo's ear, “Want me to fill you up with powerful spiritual force?”
What are you even saying?! Xing Mo tried to resist, but her body felt weak.
“I... I have to wake up early tomorrow…” She murmured, “Stop…”
“But I’m not going to drain you.” Aurora smiled, “I’m going to infuse you... You’re just a little muddle-headed.”
She pulled Xing Mo’s head to her chest, holding her tightly. Spiritual force flowed into Xing Mo like a gentle stream, soothing her body drained by the ritual magic, making her feel numb and tingly.
“Ah~” A soft moan escaped, her ears flushed red.
Pathetic... How can I be this pathetic...?
Aurora stroked her hair, watching her melt.
“To be honest.” She murmured, “I thought you wouldn’t come back after spending all day with your senior.”
Though her voice was calm, Xing Mo caught the subtle ache beneath it.
“Why do you say that?” Xing Mo asked softly, lifting her gaze.
“Kittens like to wander. The alleys and rooftops are more fun than staying cooped up. And all those other kittens outside, they meow so sweetly, look so cute. Way better than a master who just bullies you at home…”
Aurora’s blood-red eyes drooped.
“You’re probably happier with your senior. She’s gentle, kind, always protecting you…”
Xing Mo smiled faintly, then looked into her eyes, “What if… we moved in together with Senior Alice? It’s a big mansion. Way more comfortable than here.”
“…Eh?” Aurora blinked, stunned, “Together?”
Aurora had assumed Xing Mo would leave her behind and move into Alice’s residence alone.
It made sense. Aurora’s identity couldn’t be exposed, and it wouldn’t be appropriate for her to show up at Alice’s residence. On the other hand, everything Xing Mo needed to do next involved staying in touch with Alice—living there would be far more convenient.
Aurora had already braced herself for that possibility. It was a reasonable request. After all, who said followers had to live with their God? Didn’t the little nuns live in the church?
Of course, that didn’t mean she’d agree. In fact, she’d already decided that if Xing Mo were to suggest it, she’d drain her dry until her legs buckled, her limbs turned to jelly, and she foamed at the mouth. Anything to keep her from leaving.
But then, Xing Mo had said she wanted to bring her along.
For a moment, Aurora—who thought she had seen through everything, who always played the omniscient deity—was completely stunned.
Seeing Aurora’s blank look, Xing Mo reached out and poked her cheek.
“Ow!”
Aurora puffed out her cheeks, looking at Xing Mo in her arms with confusion.
But Xing Mo just smiled: “I’m the kitten? You’re more kitten than me. Who does the cooking, huh? And you call yourself the master... You’re just another kitten who bullies me.”
“I’m not a kitten…” Aurora protested, “I’m a God, and you’re—”
“Senior Alice’s kitchen is really nice, with lots of ingredients. I can cook whatever you want.” Xing Mo cut her off.
“Meow~ I’ll go with you~” Aurora suddenly beamed, nuzzling Xing Mo’s cheek: “Little Saintess, you’re so good to me. Do you like me?”
“How could I not?” Xing Mo muttered, a bit flustered. “Of course I like you. If I didn’t, wouldn’t you just torment me endlessly? I don’t have a choice but to like you.”
“Still so stubborn~” Aurora chuckled.
She leaned forward, resting her forehead against Xing Mo’s, eyes closed: “You’re my favorite follower, Little Saintess.”
Xing Mo didn’t reply. She just smiled, inwardly marveling at how easy this so-called Evil God had become to handle.
At first, she’d been sometimes sharp-tempered and unpredictable, prone to tantrums. But now? A bit of coaxing was all it took to calm her down.
Maybe she wasn’t so terrifying after all. Just a little insecure—like a child, really.
With a little coaxing, even an Evil God can be tamed. Xing Mo thought, feeling triumphant.
But then, the spiritual force flowing into her body surged and grew much stronger.
“Guh…” Xing Mo choked, “Wait—”
“When it comes to my favorite follower.” Aurora purred, “Of course I can’t hold anything back.”
She rose and then sat below Xing Mo as spiritual force blazed around her, pouring into Xing Mo like a flood.
“Guh… stop…”
Xing Mo’s body grew increasingly numb, her eyes rolling back slightly as she lost the ability to speak.
“Let me help you return to peak condition!” Aurora spread her arms wide, “Berserk Spiritual Force Flow! Inject!”
That night, Xing Mo couldn’t even remember when she passed out… no, fell asleep.
Either way, her memory ended there.
……
Bang.
The heavy iron door slammed shut. Alice turned and strode deeper into the dungeon.
After sending Xing Mo and Aurora back to their apartment, she'd ordered a carriage straight to the Holy Spirit Church. Now, she was making her way through its underground dungeon to confirm some things.
She stopped before a door bound in iron chains and waved her wand. The chains slithered free. As the door creaked open, a shrill scream pierced the darkness.
“Ahhhhh!”
Alice stepped inside.
This cell was reserved for the worst criminals, its escape-proof walls sealed by string magic formations. In the center, a man encased in melted bronze armor knelt like a statue, his face twisted in agony.
It was Argus, the Undying captured during Prince Austin’s birthday banquet.
In the shadows beside him stood the Priest of Tides, his aged face barely visible, gripping a water whip.
“Did he talk?” Alice asked.
“Partially.” The Priest of Tides replied, coiling his water whip.
“At least we now know what the Humpback Whale really is.”
Alice frowned, “What is it?”
The Priest of Tides sneered, then spat on Argus’s head: “It’s not a whaler. It’s a heavily armed ironclad warship.”
“That bastard Austin was preparing for war all along. Even prepared for us to come after him. Pathetic.”
