The Defeated Saintess Is On A Journey To Tame The Evil God Book 01 Chapter 07.02 - Red Epiphyllum

A few minutes later, a makeshift prep table was set up, with a pot placed next to it.

The small nuns and workers gathered around, crowding the area. If patrolling policemen were to see this, they would probably think it was some kind of cult gathering.

Though, in a sense, it was…

Xing Mo raised her wand, and water sprang out from the wand's tip and cleaned the prep table.

Then, she began to prepare the ingredients.

Today's dish was vegetable soup. Its ingredients weren't expensive, but the soup was still flavorful, fitting to lift the mood.

Of course, Xing Mo's main purpose for making the soup was to teach the small nuns and small monks—once these little guys learned how to prepare food, they would be able to prepare food for large groups of people.

"First, chop all these vegetables into pieces. Don't stress over your knife skill, just make sure the vegetables are cut into pieces."

As she explained, Xing Mo swiftly chopped several onions with expert knife skill, then diced a few carrots and celery stalks, and finally cut a few cabbages into pieces.

"Next, we need some oil... um... we need to keep the budget low, so we can use some fat to grease the pot."

As she spoke, Xing Mo took out a piece of pork fat, cleaned it, and then applied it to the pot, coating the surface in a layer of grease.

Then, she poured the onions, carrots, celery, and cabbage into the pot and stir-fried them. After a while, stir-fried in pork fat, the vegetables began to exude a fragrant aroma, causing the small nuns to salivate.

"Then there are tomatoes, um... tomatoes are the soul, don't forget it." Xing Mo took out a few tomatoes, sliced them into pieces, and then threw them into the pot.

Next, she poured water into the pot, until the ingredients were mostly submerged.

Since we're lacking seasonings like salt... we can only make do... but the top priority right now is to make sure they get their fill. We can think about making it taste better later.

A pure flame burned beneath the pot—it was a flame conjured by Xing Mo using the string of fire magic, unpolluted and additive-free, burning at just the right temperature.

Soon, bubbles rose to the surface of the thick soup, releasing a tantalizing, sweet and sour aroma.

"Sister, help me." Xing Mo turned around and handed two pieces of rye bread to Aurora, "Break these into smaller pieces and put them in the pot to cook together. This will make them softer."

Aurora had no complaints about being asked to help, and she began to handle the bread with great excitement, as if it were some kind of sacred task.

Afterward, Xing Mo covered the pot with the lid, then took out her pocket watch and waited for ten minutes.

Ten minutes later, Xing Mo lifted the lid. The aroma that wafted out made the onlookers exclaim.

"Wow... it smells so good..."

"To think these ordinary ingredients..."

"Saint... cough... Big Sister, you're amazing..."

Hey... did someone almost slip up... Xing Mo glanced nervously at Senior Alice beside her, only to find Alice intently watching her making soup, without saying a word.

Noticing Xing Mo's gaze, Alice smiled: "Junior Xing Sheng, your cooking skill is pretty good."

"We've... we've been on the move after leaving Fallou, and sometimes we would gather wild vegetables and make soup. " Xing Mo chuckled, playing the role of a Fallouan refugee.

Alice smiled and nodded, without saying another word.

Xing Mo cleared her throat. By this time, the vegetable soup was now ready. She waved her wand, lowering the flames under the pot, then used a ladle to fill a bowl, adding the now very soft bread.

"Here you go, Sister." Xing Mo handed the bowl to Aurora.

Aurora took the bowl, smiled, and scooped up a spoonful, offering it to Xing Mo: "Sister, you've worked hard. You should try it first~"

Xing Mo's cheeks flushed slightly. She hesitated for a moment, then opened her mouth obediently.

At first, it felt slightly hot, then came the sweet and sour flavor of the soup, followed by the aftertaste of onions, celery, and other vegetables.

Xing Mo nodded. Not bad! Considering the limitation in regard to the ingredients, this attempt was pretty successful!

She gave Aurora a thumbs up. The latter took the spoon she used to feed Xing Mo, scooped up a bit of soup, then stuffed the spoon into her mouth and had a taste of it: "Hmm... delicious...!"

She gave Xing Mo a thumbs up back, her face beaming with a smile.

For a moment, the slightly chilly morning sunshine and cold wind seemed less bothersome. Xing Mo couldn't help but think that hot soup was indeed a great remedy for the cold!

Xing Mo thoughtfully filled a bowl for Senior Alice and said, "Senior, you should try it too."

Alice took the bowl without hesitation and drank a mouthful of the soup, and her eyes widened slightly.

"Hmm? What's wrong?" Xing Mo asked, worrying about the soup's taste.

Alice didn't say a word and just finished the soup in a few gulps, before nodding with a smile: "That's unexpected. Junior Xing Sheng, your culinary skill is pretty good."

"Ha-ha, you flatter me. I'm no match for a professional chef." Xing Mo chuckled, scratching her head.

Then, Xing Mo turned and called out to the crowd: "Alright, everyone, line up in an orderly manner. One bowl per person, plus two slices of rye bread. If you don't end up getting any, there's no need to worry. We'll be making more!"

Thereupon, the small nuns and workers began to line up obediently. Some of them were already very hungry, but thinking that the girl in front of them was the Saintess of the Tree of Life's Goddess, they behaved themselves.

In less than ten minutes, the soup in the pot was all gone. Xing Mo then arranged for a few of the more confident small nuns to set up other pots and, while making a new pot of soup herself, instructed the small nuns to make pots of soup.

In the blink of an eye, five pots were set up in the factory's courtyard, and five queues formed for the soup.

The workers who received the hot soup and bread either sat on the ground in the courtyard or returned to the factory. In an instant, the entire courtyard was bustling with activity and life.

After she was done distributing bread, Alice bid farewell to Xing Mo and returned to the factory's entrance.

From a distance, she watched Xing Mo busy herself in front of the pots, her dark red eyes growing more and more focused.

"Holy Sister Lilis... if I remember correctly... Saint Auroth Cathedral" She murmured softly.

......

Xing Mo was busy until noon. After all the workers had had hot soup, only then did she board a carriage and return to Miriam's apartment at Splash Street.

When she got through the door, she sat down on the edge of her bed."

"Phew, today the little ones learned how to make soup. As long as we provide them with the funds regularly, my believers will be able to have hot soup every meal."

Aurora kicked off her shoes, put on slippers, and then neatly placed her little shoes next to Xing Mo's.

She walked into the bedroom and was about to tease Xing Mo, when she noticed that the latter's expression looked a bit off, "Young Saintess, what's wrong?"

"My… stomach doesn't feel right..." Xing Mo held her stomach, pursing her lips.

She was fine in the morning, but started feeling unwell during the carriage ride back.

What's going on? Did I eat something spoiled? That can't be it... did...

At this moment, Xing Mo's eyes constricted, and she involuntarily let out a gasp.

She took off her pantyhose, then her panties, and was shocked to find the small piece of fabric stained red.

"Ahh..." Xing Mo's eyes lost their luster, "Did I... did I contract some... ahh..."

Witnessing this scene, Aurora was taken aback, then burst into laughter: "You're a girl! How could you not know you were getting your period?! Ha-ha-ha..."
