Noticing Ma Lao-er’s current state, Liu Zishu immediately spoke up to advise, “We have no business with them here. Come, let’s head back and rest.”
“Who’s performing today?” the tottering Ma Lao-er turned to one of the brothers by the side and asked.
“Yao Ji.”
“The one from Thailand?” Ma Lao-er asked again.
“Yeah,” the brother nodded.
Ma Lao-er burped a little before grinning at Liu Zishu, saying, “Come, let’s head in to take a look. I wanted to get her the last time, but she wasn’t around.”
“It’s getting late, let’s just head back,” Liu Zishu said. “That Yong Dong is in there too. If we head over…”
“He play his, I’ll play mine. What’s wrong with that?” Ma Lao-er said as he glared at Yong Dong’s gang. “Dirt Street is only so big, you can’t expect me to take a detour every time I see them?”
Liu Zishu was at a loss for words.
“Let’s go in and take a look!” Ma Lao-er called out before walking into the music bar.
…
The music bars in this era wasn’t that different from those before the apocalypse. The music bar which Ma Lao-er was entering was more focused on the performances than the music. From time to time, they would bring in performers who possessed unique skills.
Most of the customers here were on the older side as the younger folks wouldn’t have the financial ability to enter a place like this. Besides, this was an era where most people were having difficulties trying to make a living, so there were very few people who could afford to squander money in entertainment venues like this.
On the stage of the music bar, there was a tall and slender lady wearing seductive clothes performing an erotic dance. It appeared to be of traditional Thai style, and it was exceptionally alluring.
Ma Lao-er was a pervert who wasn’t too choosy between genders and positions when it came to sexual partners, and he had long been enchanted by this ‘Lady Yao Ji’. However, due to certain circumstances cropping up, he hadn’t been able to ask her out despite having made two requests so far.
Furthermore, the Ma Family was done in real bad by the Yuan Family a while back, and he felt that there was a score he needed to settle. So, after hearing the host was auctioning ‘Yao Ji’s Night’ away, he unhesitatingly stepped in and shouted, “I’ll offer 1000!”
In that instant, the limelight was brought to the entrance of the venue. Mao Lao-er walked toward a nearby table with no one there and sat down with a grin. He even waved his hand and Yao Ji smilingly.
“The customer at the entrance offers 1000!” the host shouted. “Friends, there aren’t many chances left. Lady Yao Ji will be heading over to Fengbei to perform next week, so it’ll be impossible for you to ask her out by then! Trust me, just spend this money and indulge yourself in a night of wonders! Come, is there anyone else who wants to up the bid?”
The host in this kind of auction would usually try to bring up the mood, and most customers would just participate for the sake of entertainment. Most of them actually weren’t too interested in having a physical relationship with the performer. Besides, even if the performer went out with them to have some food and drink, it didn’t necessarily mean that she would stay overnight at their place.
Not to mention, Yao Ji was a transexual.
Yong Dong’s people were only shouting for the sake of it. They had a little bit to drink, and they wanted to let loose and spend a bit of money.
But Ma Lao-er’s sudden appearance had changed the nature of the auction.
Yong Dong had been brothers with Yuan Hua for many years. While he had never gotten involved in the conflicts on the ground, he had two officially recognized companies in his hand that had plenty of business deals with the Yuan Family.
He was the type of person who strategized and fought battles through the office, and he looked down on the Ma Family, who had come from the very bottom of society.
Sitting on a sofa, Yong Dong propped up his black-rimmed glasses as he turned to the friend beside him and asked, “That fellow is out?”
“Un. I heard that Old Li of the Police Bureau fished him out,” the friend replied.
“He barely managed to make it out alive, but it looks like he’s already letting it get to his head,” Yong Dong sneered in disdain. He raised his hand and shouted, “Little Six, go ahead and play with him!”
The young man seated opposite of Yong Dong immediately raised his hand and shouted, “1500!”
“2000.” Ma Lao-er’s eyes didn’t even blink in the least.
“2500.”
“3000.”
“…!”
In less than five seconds, the price had already been hiked up to a staggering 3000 Asian Dollars. This was a sum that went far beyond just ‘heating up the atmosphere’. All of the guests in the music bar knew that these two opposing families were pitting their dignity against one another. It was no longer just fun and games anymore.
By the doorway, Liu Zishu looked at Ma Lao-er with a frown, reminding, “There’s no need to go that far. 3000 for just a woman, is it worth it?”
“It’s not about money anymore,” Ma Lao-er shook his legs leisurely as he spoke. A smile crept onto his lips as he looked at Yong Dong and shouted over, “Hey, do you have any bullets in your hands? If not, I’ll be getting her over to drink with me then!”
On the inside, a young man seated opposite Yong Dong walked over and leaned in to ask, “Bro, are we still going to bid against him?”
“Don’t bother,” Yong Dong replied with a steely face. “Let him do whatever he wants.”
“3000. Is there anyone who wants to up that bid?” the host shouted.
There was no one in the room who answered.
“Alright! Let’s welcome Lady Yao Ji to accompany the boss sitting by the entrance for a drink!” the host announced.
Ma Lao-er glanced over and Liu Zishu and asked, “Do you have money with you?”
Liu Zishu was rendered speechless by those words. “What are you bidding for if you don’t have any money with you?”
“Do you have it or not?” Ma Lao-er asked impatiently.
“… I have it,” Liu Zishu replied.
Ma Lao-er stood up and pointed his finger at Yong Dong. At the same time, he turned to the host and said, “I had enough to drink for tonight. Get that lady to go over to that table instead. That brother sitting over has shouted in vain for quite some time now, so I reckon that he must be really thirsty now. Hahaha!”
Those words plunged the entire room into silence. Even the host, who was skilled at handling impromptu situations, suddenly found himself unable to alleviate the situation.
Yong Dong’s complexion also became incredibly awful as he sat down on the sofa quietly, not saying a word at all.
“You son of a bitch. You nearly got your ass ripped off just a while ago, so what are you screaming around here for?!”
A brawny man got up from the sofa, picked up a wine glass, and threw it in Ma Lao-er’s direction.
Peng!
The glass struck the table and shattered all over the ground. A fight seemed to be brewing.
Eight people from Yong Dong’s side rushed forward and surrounded Ma Lao-er and his gang. Yong Dong had stood up and shouted over to stop them, but his words fell on deaf ears.
…
Over at the entrance.
The drunk Ma Lao-er might be a fearsome adversary to go against in a fight, but it was unfortunate that he was at a numerical disadvantage. Furthermore, the staff working in the music bar seemed to be on Yong Dong’s side as well. As a result of that, he quickly found himself in a disadvantageous position.
Five people had Ma Lao-er surrounded by the corner, and they hurled punches and kicks toward him without any mercy.
Meanwhile, Liu Zishu was dealing with the remaining three people. While he managed to stand his ground with his superior strength and skills, he was still stalled from being able to head over to help Ma Lao-er.
This chaotic fight lasted for seven minutes before ending with Ma Lao-er’s getting severely beaten up.
The manager of the live bar rushed out from inside and pulled both sides away. Then, he turned to Ma Lao-er and said, “What the hell are you doing over here? It’s not as if we’re strangers. Are you trying to make things hard for me by stirring shit here?”
Ma Lao-er rubbed the blood from his nose as he replied with an unfazed smile, “Nothing, it’s nothing at all. It has nothing to do with you. Fuck, I’m finally waking up from my drunken stupor after getting a beating.”
“Do you have a car? You should head to a hospital to get a checkup,” the manager said.
“No need for that. These are just minor injuries!” Ma Lao-er replied with a chuckle as he rubbed his blood on his clothes. Even though he appeared to have drunk too much, he still earnestly apologized to the manager, “Sorry for the trouble.”
“It’s nothing much. My boss will just grumble a little about the situation. Forget it! You should hurry up and wash yourself up!”
“It’s okay, I’ll deal with it later. I’m leaving now!” Ma Lao-er waved his hand before leaving the music bar.
On the car, Liu Zishu looked at Ma Lao-er and shook his head in dissatisfaction, “Just what are you aiming for? You spent your money for nothing, and you even ended up getting beaten up. Once Uncle Ma learns about it, you’ll be in for another scolding!”
“Hell! All I did was to rebut him a little, no? I just had a little too much to drink today…!” Ma Lao-er cursed as he stuffed a tissue paper into his nose. “Let’s go, we’re heading back to sleep!”
“Sigh, when can you stop stirring trouble everywhere?” Liu Zishu sighed deeply.
…
In the music bar.
After the manager had cleaned up the scene, he walked over to Yong Dong’s table, sat down on the sofa, and said, “Bro, don’t drink anymore. Listen to my words and return a little earlier today.”
“What’s wrong?” Yong Dong tilted his head as he asked.
