Special District 9 Chapter 18: A Steel Rice Bowl Needs to be Carried With One’s Life

Four police patrol cars were scattered all over the middle intersection of the Three Rings Road, parked along the offroad paths. As for the multifunctional military van, after the policemen in there alighted near the destination, it swiftly left the area.

Sitting in one of the cars, Qin Yu picked up his walkie talkie and began passing down instructions, “The target is still in there. We’ll follow the plan we have decided on earlier. There are other people in the alley too, but try not to fire your gun and alert them. We aren’t familiar with this area.”

“Copy that.”

“Copy that.”

“…!”

After receiving the full instructions, the teams immediately replied.

Qin Yu got down from his car and examined the gun he had slotted in the holster on his waist. Just as he was about to head out, Qi Lin suddenly ran over from behind and said, “Looks like I managed to make it in time.”

Qin Yu turned around and asked, “You have managed to settle your stuff?”

“Yeah, I managed to settle everything,” Qi Lin replied while gasping for air.

There was no time to waste talking to Qi Lin, so Qin Yu quickly relayed his orders, “The plan is to have you drive Car 2 over to the intersection between Three Rings Road and Mapleforest Road and wait there. If the arrest is successful, I’ll head for your car right away. If the fixers head to your location, report it immediately and we’ll send reinforcement.”

“Copy that!” Qi Lin replied in gratitude. “Squad leader, thanks for always taking care of me.”

Qin Yu nodded. He quickly made his way over to the destination as he spoke on the walkie talkie, “Old Cat, get ready to enter the alley. We’ll be launching a frontal assault.”

“Copy that!”

Three minutes later.

Old Cat was wearing a Kevlar helmet, light green military clothes, and a bulletproof vest. Leading his team of ten, he began to approach the alley as the other team members quickly took their places at both ends of the alley, waiting patiently for the order to move.

Qin Yu walked quickly along the side of the road as he asked through the walkie talkie, “Is there a vantage point?”

“There isn’t. There is only an external staircase, but we should be able to see the second floor clearly from there.”

“Got it. Team 1 will head over there to camp. Your main responsibility will be to provide intelligence and cover for the others,” Qin Yu instructed.

“Copy that.”

Right after passing down the order, Qin Yu also finally arrived at the entrance of the alley. He took a look at the empty streets before patting Old Cat’s shoulder, saying, “I’ll enter with Jabi first. The rest of you stay put for the time being.”

“Got it,” Old Cat nodded.

“Let’s go, Jabi,” Qin Yu called out.

Wearing casual clothes, the two of them began walking into the alley.

They were standing side by side with one another. While walking into the alley with a casual posture, Qin Yu glanced over and asked, “Are you nervous?”

“Haha, I’ve gotten used to it,” Jabi replied with a chuckle.

“Don’t worry, it’s going to be fine,” Qin Yu said as he wrapped his arm around Jabi’s neck and roared in laughter, “Let’s find a place to play all night long!”

“You have drunk too much,” Jabi played along.

Around the midpoint of an alley, a middle-aged man heard those voices and immediately straightened his posture on the rickety wooden chair as he glanced over with narrowed eyes.

With fumbling footsteps, Qin Yu staggered forward for another thirty meters with Jabi before abruptly spitting to the side, “Shit, why is life so tough?”

The spit happened to land on the shoulder of the middle-aged man.

“You damned twat!” the companion beside the middle-aged man stood up and bellowed coldly.

“Aiya, there’s someone here?” Feigning an intoxicated state, Qin Yu slowly turned his head over and spoke slowly, “Sorry ah, bro. By the way… Do you know where the Flowerflower Club is…”

The middle-aged man initially thought that Qin Yu was a drunkard, but when the other party came close to him, his brows furrowed together as his eyes turned sharp. He subconsciously moved his hand behind his back.

Uweh!

Qin Yu suddenly barfed as he plunged right toward the middle-aged man.

“I don’t smell alcohol on you…” the middle-aged man immediately rose up to grab his gun while his companion lifted his hand to press the button on his ear mic.

Peng!

Qin Yu raised his leg to kick those two with lightning speed.

Gudong!

The middle-aged man was knocked back two steps by the impact of the kick, causing his body to crash into the walls.

Pah!

Qin Yu tugged the other party’s arm before twisting it to the left, causing the middle-aged man to crash on the floor. Following that, he pressed his knee against the grounded middle-aged man as his left hand reached forth to grab the gun by his waist. With a harsh voice, Qin Yu threatened, “Don’t scream or I’ll blow your head off.”

“Enem…” The middle-aged man didn’t fear Qin Yu’s threat at all. He tried to crane his neck and shout.

Left with no choice, Qin Yu covered the middle-aged man’s mouth as he hissed, “Quiet.”

Puchi!

The middle-aged man was truly tenacious. Seeing that he was unable to struggle free from Qin Yu, he actually bit down on Qin Yu’s arm hard, causing blood to flow down.

While Qin Yu made his move, Jabi also rushed forth with his police baton to knock the other man to the ground. However, this man was also frighteningly tenacious. Even with his body pinned to the floor, he still struggled violently.

Qin Yu realized that these two men were highly loyal to the man inside, and that it would be hard to control them. So, he quickly raised his hand and gestured.

Ta ta ta!

Receiving the signal, Old Cat immediately rushed into the alley together with his team. They rushed over to Qin Yu’s side, and each of them landed a strike on the heads of those two fellows. It didn’t take long for those two fellows to temporarily lose consciousness as blood flowed from their heads.

“We need to hurry!” Qin Yu shouted. “Crash down the door!”

Huala! Huala!

The policemen immediately took out their riot shields

Bang bang bang!

With three gunshots, the metal door broke open. Old Cat raised his hand and shouted, “Keep in formation and enter!”

Qin Yu swiftly charged into the house with ten policemen. However, as soon as they entered the house, they were stunned. The corridor was long and narrow, and the lighting was dim. Vaguely they could see a flight of metal stairs at the end of the corridor.

“Damn it, push forward quickly! I don’t there’s anyone on the first floor!” Qin Yu quickly passed down the instruction after scanning the area quickly.

After hearing those words, two policemen immediately charged forward.

Three seconds later, standing beneath the metal stairs, the two of them raised their semi-automatic rifles and began spraying furiously without any warning.

“Don’t go up yet. Suppress them first!” Qin Yu ordered as he took cover by the edge of the stairs. “Team 2, are you able to get a snipe?”

“Yes, there’s a clear sighting to snipe.”

“By the stairs, where two of our autos are covering fire.”

Bang bang!

There weren’t many snipers in the Police Bureau, so Qin Yu was unable to get a team of fully-trained snipers as support for the operation. However, some of the more skilled policemen were still quite confident in their aim as long as the distance wasn’t too far away. After receiving the orders, Team 1, which was camped in the opposite building outside, looked through the windows, and with two shots, they sniped the criminal camping at the stairs.

The corpse of the criminal came tumbling down the stairs. It was then that Qin Yu said, “Advance!”

Hulala!

Bringing the vanguard onward together with him, Qin Yu dashed up to the stairs to the second floor.

The second floor was extremely dark as well. One could only barely make out the shape of the room through the luminescence of the moon outside. With a slight feeling of trepidation, Qin Yu slowly advanced four steps as he asked softly through the walkie talkie, “Why is there no one? Team 2, did anyone jump out of the windows?”

“Negative. We can’t catch a clear sight of the second floor from our angle,” the person on the other side of the walkie talkie replied.

Qin Yu frowned.

Dang lang!

It was at that moment a clicking sound echoed from Qin Yu’s left. Old Cat, who had just come up to the second floor as well, muttered with an extremely nervous voice, “Qin Yu… Qin Yu… I struck the jackpot. I stepped onto a mine.”

When Qin Yu turned around, a policeman beside Old Cat had already kneeled on the floor. He was attempting to fiddle with the wires of the mine.

“Don’t move, don’t move!” Old Cat shouted fearfully as his right legs trembled fearfully. It isn’t the wiring. I stepped on a mine.”

Stunned, everyone quickly backed away and guarded the entrance of the corridor. They were worried that someone was still hiding in the house, so they were taking positions to protect Old Cat in case someone suddenly appeared.

Qin Yu immediately took out a torchlight from his waist and shone it on the mine that was located at the entrance of the toilet. Then, he said decisively, “Old Cat, even if you were to run away right now, your right leg would be blasted to bits. We can try this instead. You’ll lift your leg while I try to strike the mine out.”

“Are you confident?”

“Hard to say. I’m not sure if it has been remodeled.”

“Are you kidding with me? What do you mean by hard to say? I’ll be dead if you miss!” Old Cat howled with widened eyes.

“If I can knock it flying, you’ll get to keep your leg,” Qin Yu replied calmly as he pointed at the mine with his torchlight. “How? Give me an answer.”

Old Cat pondered for a moment as the usual mischievous look on his face disappeared. He solemnly replied, “I want to keep my leg.”

“Count to three, you raise your leg,” Qin Yu said as he angled his rifle downward. “Everyone, retreat!”

“3!”

“2!”

“1! Now!” Qin Yu howled.

Without any hesitation, Old Cat raised his leg and backed away.

Peng!

With the butt of the rifle, Qin Yu struck the mine that was beneath Old Cat’s feet out as if playing golf.

Huala!

The mine broke the glass window and flew out of the room.

But even after several seconds had passed, there was still not a sound to be heard outside the room.

Old Cat fell to the floor weakly as he asked, “Hell… Why didn’t it sound?”

“It’s a fake,” Qin Yu replied with gritted teeth. “A fake mine. Team 2, check if there are any anomalies in the area…”

Bam! Tik tak!

Right after those words sounded, a policeman on the left was just about to advance when he accidentally bumped into a cupboard by the side, and a bizarre sound rang.

Everyone was stunned.

“Shit, it’s a real one this time!” Old Cat howled with a pale face. “Get down! Riot shields up!”

The two policemen holding onto the riot shields barely had any time to get down to a stable position on the ground and put up the shields when a ferocious blaze exploded outward.

Boom!

Three policemen who didn’t manage to take cover in time fell to the floor in fragments, losing their lives in an instant. They didn’t even have a chance to ask for help.

Crouching on the floor inside the house, Qin Yu’s ears were still ringing from the impact. “There’s no one in the house anymore. They have already escaped outward. Team 2, take note, and scan the surroundings.”

Outside.

The main target, Ah Long, together with one of his companions, was sprinting with all of his might in the residence as he cursed, “Bloody hell, those dogs came here on Old Ma’s scent. That bastard is fucking unprofessional!”

“Is there a chance that he might have betrayed us?”

“Impossible. He’s still counting on me for a living,” Ah Long replied. “Give Shrimp a call. Tell him to hurry here and fetch us, or else we might just get done in here!”

Additional Notes for Reference:

Vantage point refers to an area that gives a clear view of the area. It’s important in operations as it allows one to keep an overview of the situation while allowing for sniping to occur. There is a strategic advantage in taking such a spot.

External staircase refers to buildings where the staircase is hanging outside the building, outdoors, instead of being located inside the building.

Spraying is a term when you hold the trigger of a gun and shoot out bullets quickly across an area. This mainly serves as cover fire.

There are different types of mines, but in real life, most mines usually explode when you step on them. It’s mostly a TV troupe that mines explode only when you lift your leg from them.
