Special District 9 Chapter 150: A Youth Leaving Home

The following morning.

In the Police Bureau’s Superintendent Office, Qin Yu stood stiffly with reddened eyes as he said, “Uncle Li, regarding yesterday night…!”

“Aiyo, isn’t this Brother Qin? Come come, have a seat here. I wouldn’t want to keep you standing,” Superintendent Li said as he gestured with a wide smile on his face. “It looks like Brother Qin has quite a few gatherings recently. Are you too overloaded with work nowadays? Why don’t I grant you a special permission to work from home then?”

“Uncle Li, don’t be like this.”

“Aiyo, am I talking useless crap to you again?”

“I really had too much to drink last night. I was intending to call Old Cat, but I didn’t think that I would end up calling you instead,” Qin Yu quickly explained himself. “The alcohol really got to my head, so I ended up acting inappropriately… Uncle Li, just spare me this once, alright?”

“Heh.” Superintendent Li scoffed coldly before finally gesturing to the chair. “Sit down.”

Qin Yu humbly took a seat opposite to Superintendent Li.

“You said something about what younger brother going to the army last night?” Superintendent Li asked.

“Yeah, it’s the child that I took in not too long ago,” Qin Yu replied helplessly. “He got into trouble a few days ago, so I ended up getting busy trying to clean up after him. During this period of time, I gave this matter some thought, and it doesn’t seem like a good idea to keep him at home. So, I’m thinking of toughening him up by having him train in the army for a few years.”

Superintendent Li looked at Qin Yu with a wry smile as he remarked, “He doesn’t have any blood relation with you, but you seem quite concerned about him?”

“He’s my younger brother now,” Qin Yu replied. “He gave me a kowtow yesterday night. Sigh, that child is really too similar to me. I can’t help but want to intervene in his affairs.”

“The army is nothing like before. There’s a chance that a war might break out at any moment,” Superintendent Li reminded.

“I considered that too,” Qin Yu replied with a nod. “He’s my younger brother, but I can’t shield for him his entire life. I’ll just show him a way, and where he manages to go after that is up to him.”

“Send him to the Third Brigade then. I’ll give a call to a friend of mine in Songjiang’s Garrison Troops.” If Superintendent Li wanted to stuff someone in the army, all it took was a call.

Just as Superintendent Li was about to pick up his phone, Qin Yu quickly stopped him and said, “Uncle Li, it’ll be preferable to put him somewhere further away, at least not in Songjiang.”

Superintendent Li was a little surprised by that request.

“It’ll do him good to be put out of his comfort zone.”

“…!” Superintendent Li blinked his eyes before craning his neck forward and asking, “Brother Qin, what do you think about sending him to Fengbei to serve as the Chief of Army? Sounds good?”

“Uncle Li, don’t make fun of me.”

“You sure have lots of requests!” Superintendent Li berated with a chuckle. He reached for his phone as he said, “The Second Brigade is located outside the borders. I’ll send him there then.”

“That’ll be ideal.” Qin Yu nodded in agreement. “Thanks a lot, Uncle Li!”

“No no, I should be the one thanking you, Brother Qin. I’m honored to be able to do something for you.”

Uncle Li, I’m really going to have nightmares at this rate.”

“Hahaha.” Superintendent Li laughed. He flipped his telephone book before making a call, and the matter was settled just like that.

Qin Yu thanked him again and again before moving on to another topic. “Uncle Li, you mentioned in your call earlier that you’re going to put a few new people into my squad?”

“That’s right. The main headquarters is sending a batch of students from Fengbei Police Academy over. There are around twenty of them, but the Police Headquarters will be taking some of them, so only six of them are coming over to our bureau. I’m intending to assign two of them to your squad,” Superintendent Li said.

“As you know, the situation in the Police Bureau is still a little chaotic at the moment, and most police officers simply pull their connections and buy their way in. More often or not, we don’t even bother looking at their résumé. Due to this, the officers who have graduated in formal institutions are highly valued.”

Qin Yu understood that Superintendent Li was trying to help him by adding skilled officers into his squad so that he could form a reliable team as soon as possible. “It’s a good thing, but I’m in Platoon 4 at the moment. I’m worried that Liu Baochen will try to pull some tricks to retain them when I leave the platoon.”

“Those two fellows are coming here for their internship. Once they finish their internship, I’ll reassign them to your new squad in a reshuffling of manpower.”

“Uncle Li, how can I thank you for this? You got my younger brother in the army, and you’re even doting on me so much… You’re really my sunshine!”

“Get lost.” Superintendent Li couldn’t be bothered to hear Qin Yu’s flattering, so he chased him away with a wave of his hand. “Build up your foundation well and get your business running.”

“Will do,” Qin Yu replied with a smile.

The following day, eight in the morning.

Bucktooth carried a simple luggage bag as he looked at Qin Yu sadly, “… Do I really need to leave so quickly?”

“Yes,” Qin Yu replied. He took out the 200 dollars he had in his pocket and contemplated for a moment before saying, “I don’t have much money with me recently too. Let’s just split half-half.”

“I don’t need money,” Bucktooth turned him down.

“Use this 100 dollars to do whatever you want, be it to have some good food or to make some friends,” Qin Yu said as he stuffed the money into Bucktooth’s pockets. “However, know that I won’t be sending you even a single cent while you’re in the army. Also, you shouldn’t even start thinking that I have any reliable connections in the army. I can tell you clearly that I spent a lot of money to get a friend of mine to make a request to his friend to pull this off. So, if you mess around in the army, there’s no one to save you.”

“I understand.” Bucktooth nodded.

“Get on the train to Fengbei and head over to the administrative center of the Second Brigade’s Platoon 4. The paper I have given you has the address and your point of contact. Just head there and look for him straight,” Qin Yu said as he patted Bucktooth’s little head. “I wish you a safe journey.”

Bucktooth nodded in response.

Xiangxiang, standing beside Qin Yu, was looking at Bucktooth with repressed emotions from her unwillingness to part with Bucktooth. She endured it for a long while before finally stepping forward shyly and handing over a cotton glove which she had sewed by herself, “… Wang Henan, you have a better life than me, and you have a brighter future ahead too. You must do well in the army.”

Bucktooth sniffed as he gazed at Xiangxiang and said, “I’ll earn money in the army and transfer it over to you so that you can go to school.”

“I wish you… all the best…!” After squeezing out those words from her mouth, Xiangxiang turned around and ran away.

Bucktooth stared at her departing back in a daze for a while before waving his arms up high and shouting, “I’ll come back to visit you during the holidays!”

“That’s enough of you. Are you acting out a romance drama here?” Qin Yu interjected sharply. “Hurry up and get on the train. The doors are closing soon.”

“Big bro, I’ll be going…”

“Go!” Qin Yu waved his hand.

Bucktooth went into the train with his luggage bag, and with the tinkle of a bell, the train slowly began to move.

Staring at Bucktooth through the window of the moving train, Qin Yu suddenly felt a feeling of emptiness inside. With a deep sigh, he turned around and began to leave.

Tok tok tok!

A series of knocks suddenly sounded.

Qin Yu turned around to take a look.

Bucktooth was inside the enclosed train, shouting as loud as he could, “Big bro, I won’t let you down! No matter how tough it is in the army, I’ll make sure to work hard and make something out of it!”

Qin Yu couldn’t fully make out what Bucktooth was shouting through the windows, but seeing the determined expression on the latter’s face, he nodded in response too.

The train gradually drove away, sending the little brother whom Qin Yu had picked up off to the next stop of his life.

Meanwhile…

Yuan Ke, who had fallen silent for numerous months, had begun moving his blade within his company, pushing forward a revolution. Many new faces and unknown figures were slowly being pushed to the forefront of the Yuan Family’s company.

At the same time, Brother Xiao, who had snuck into Special District 9 from the Development District, was also starting his business up too.

A new storm was already brewing from a place where no one could have foreseen.
