Special District 9 Chapter 127: Rushing to Fengbei

Within a certain apartment in Songjiang.

Yuan Ke was sitting on the sofa, smoking a cigarette as he inattentively watched an internet broadcasted program without saying a word.

A beautiful lady lying on his thigh asked softly, “Why do you seem so out of it the last two days?”

“It’s nothing,” Yuan Ke replied with a frown.

“You argued with your older brother again?” the lady asked.

Yuan Ke smoked his cigarette without saying a word.

“They always say that brothers unite in the face of adversity, but why do you and your older brother always end up arguing whenever something happens?” The lady raised her head and looked at Yuan Ke. “Can’t the two of you calm down and talk things out?”

“It’s not that I don’t want to talk things out with him, but he never listens to anyone’s advice, especially mine,” Yuan Ke shook his head as he replied. “I don’t know whether he looks down on me or he simply thinks of me as a kid… But every single time I try to offer some suggestions, he would immediately turn against me.”

“Ke, what I’m going to say might displease you a little. Don’t get mad.”

“Go ahead.”

“Actually, there’s a problem with both you and your older brother,” the lady said as she sat up. “He’s much older than you, so he tends to treat you like a child. On the other hand, you are determined to prove yourself to him, so there are times that the way you speak to him makes him feel very uncomfortable. You put a clear line between business and personal life, such that there are times you forget that he’s your family, your older brother… You often reject him, saying that his ideas are too outdated and will be eliminated with time, but what becomes of his dignity when you say those words?”

Yuan Ke found himself at an utter loss of words.

“Even family members need to learn ways to interact with one another, it doesn’t just come naturally,” the lady said as she fondled Yuan Ke’s cheeks. “Your older brother headed to Fengbei to handle some urgent matters, right? Are you worried about him?”

“Un,” Yuan Ke nodded.

“Do you want to give him a call?”

“Nah, I’ll only disturb him,” Yuan Ke instinctively rejected the idea.

“You see. It’s just like how there are times where you need to be given some leeway out of a difficult situation. As your older brother, he can’t just put down his face before you, right?” the young lady said gently. “Listen to me and give him a call, alright? Brothers shouldn’t hold grudges with one another.”

“I won’t call, I won’t call. I’m not going to bother with him,” Yuan Ke grumbled. “Let’s wait till he’s back first.”

“Call him.”

“Aiyo, I’m not going to make the call.”

“I’m going to get angry! Hurry up and do it!”

“I’ll call him tomorrow, okay? Or else I don’t even know what I should say to him,” Yuan Ke’s face flushed a little red from being forced.

Di ling ling!

It was at this moment that his phone rang.

The lady grabbed the phone, and after glancing at the screen, she said, “It’s Baldie.”

Yuan Ke was stunned for a moment before he stood up vexedly, mumbling, “Calling at such an hour, he’s probably going to get me to do something for them in Songjiang again!”

“Go and pick up the phone. I’ll make you some food,” the lady rose to her feet and headed to the kitchen.

On the sofa, Yuan Ke picked up the call and said, “Hello?”

“Yuan Ke, get to Fengbei as quickly as you can right now! Something happened… to your older brother…” Baldie spoke with a quivering voice.

Inside the kitchen, the lady shouted over, “Ke, there’s no bread anymore. How about some porridge?”

Huala!

A loud bang sounded from the living room. The lady immediately rushed to take a look, only to see Yuan Ke putting on his slippers and rushing right out. He didn’t even take his coat with him.

“What happened? Where are you going?” the lady ran out of the room as well and shouted after him.

However, Yuan Ke was too caught up with running down the stairs that he forgot to even respond to her.

On the road.

Yuan Ke was driving his car as he ordered with a pale face, “Ol’ Three, get me the earliest ticket to Fengbei right now. Also, call Baldie and tell him to arrange the fastest car for me at the train station.

“Alright, I get it,” Ol’ Three could sense that there was something wrong via Yuan Ke’s tone, so he immediately agreed to it.

Yuan Ke hung up his phone before rushing ahead.

In the Garrison Troops’ hospital.

“I don’t see petechiae in his wound beneath the ribcage. The preliminary diagnosis is that he’s suffering from retroperitoneal hematoma… We need to surgically remove it.”
(Petechiae are round spots that happen due to bleeding, and retroperitoneal hematoma is the accumulation of blood inside the abdomen.)

Beads of perspiration formed the assistant surgeon’s forehead as he studied Yuan Hua’s wounds. He advised, “Just this gunshot is enough to take his life. I think we should inform those outside that…”

“Cut open his abdomen to release the hematoma. Inject the cardiac stimulant,” the chief surgeon instructed. “Don’t give up on the patient just yet. Focus and give it our best.”

Twenty minutes later.

A car stopped at Songjiang’s North Station. Yuan Ke rushed down in his slippers and ran all the way to the waiting area. A dealer came over and handed him a train ticket.

Without bothering to thank him, Yuan Ke rushed right into the train platform as he dialed Baldie’s number.

“Hello?”

“I’m already at the train station. I’ll reach Fengbei in around two hours’ time,” Yuan Ke asked while panting for breath. “What’s my older brother’s condition at the moment?”

“Not sure. The doctor is still inside…” Baldie said as he plopped down on a chair and covered his face. Tears flowed down his face as he shouted, “Goddamnit! I shouldn’t have let him go as well!”

Yuan Ke wiped away the tears at the corner of his eyes as he suddenly asked, “Who knows about my older brother’s current condition?”

“Why are you asking that? You… What are you going to do?” Baldie suddenly felt a little revulsed by Yuan Ke’s question.

“Baldie, my older brother still has a family behind him. Do you get it?” Yuan Ke reminded with gritted teeth. “He… Have you thought about what would happen if something were to befall him?”

Baldie was stunned by those words.

Yuan Ke held back his sorrow as he spoke with a trembling voice, “Tell your men to watch their mouths. For those who have already been informed, tell them that they don’t need to head over. Say that my older brother’s condition has stabilized, and he’ll be transferred over to a hospital in Fengbei soon. He’ll meet everyone there… Also, find some trustworthy brothers to take my sisters-in-law and their children away.”

In the surgery room.

Yuan Hua was lying on the bed with his eyes closed. All of a sudden, he raised his hand and tried to take off the oxygen tubes in his mouth.

“Don’t move!” The assistant surgeon immediately pressed his hand down.

“Don’t press him down. Let him take it off,” the chief surgeon instructed.

The nurse walked forward and helped Yuan Hua take out the tubes.

“Hu… Hu…!”

Yuan Hua took gasps of air as he quickly looked around him and asked, “Where’s… Yuan Ke? Where… am I?”

“Yuan Ke is already here. He has arrived downstairs. Just hold on for a little longer, I’m stitching up your wounds now. Once it’s done, the two of you can meet,” the chief surgeon said. “Don’t worry, you’re fine.”

“Don’t talk bullshit! I can’t make it anymore, I know it…” Yuan Ke coughed as blood spurted from his nose. “I… I can’t die yet… My younger brother…”

“Yuan Ke is your younger brother?” the chief surgeon asked. Then, he leaned toward the ear of a nurse and instructed, “Inject another dose of epinephrine into him.”

“But he…” The nurse looked at the chief surgeon doubtfully.

“Listen to me and do it,” the chief surgeon ordered authoritatively.

Meanwhile.

In the Development District, Little Qi and his people barged into a hostel and shouted, “Where’s the boss?”

“Aiyo, Little Qi?! You…!” a middle-aged man walked out of the hostel and asked.

“Clear the second floor right now,” Little Qi instructed. “Get me a few couriers. I want only the best. Quick!”

The middle-aged man was stunned for a moment before he instructed his employee, “Refund all of the customers in the second floor and get them settled in the other hostels in the area. Do it quick!”
