Snow-Kissed Rose (GL) Chapter 40.1

Termination of contract.

When Song Yingshi heard these words, she stood in place as relief washed over her.

Song Yingshi had long since wanted to stop being a figurehead sugar mommy.

Setting aside her life, Song Yingshi had not gained anything from this relationship. On the contrary, she had to endure a bunch of grueling experiences, such as being misunderstood as a pervert by a certain sugar baby and being stripped and threatened by a certain sugar baby. Worse yet, she still had to dutifully provide financial support to her sugar baby…

What kind of inhumane job was this?

If Song Yingshi hadn't deluded herself into thinking Huai Xu was an employee and squeezed every bit of Life Point out of her like the evil capitalist she was, finding solace in this delusion, she wouldn't have made it this far.

Hence, Song Yingshi was all for it when Huai Xu asked to end their previous relationship and establish a proper labor contract. To ensure she could continue completing missions, she could set terms in the labor contract that required Huai Xu to cooperate with her on certain tasks.

However, before Song Yingshi could agree to Huai Xu's request, the system interrupted her in a voice two times faster than usual, "Special Mission: Reject Huai Xu's request to terminate your previous contract."

Song Yingshi: ?

Are you out of your mind? Song Yingshi asked in a very gentle voice.

"Please complete the mission, Host," the system replied.

Not even bothering to humor the request, Song Yingshi coldly replied, "I refuse."

Although Song Yingshi typically wouldn't miss a chance to gain more Life Points, this mission was different.

This lover's contract had always been a thorn in Huai Xu's side.

Isn't it just a Special Mission? Isn't it just some Life Points? I can do…without them! Song Yingshi thought.

However, Song Yingshi's heart still ached at the loss despite her decision. After all, this could have been an easy 72 hours of Life Points.

I refuse to do the mission. Being a sugar mommy isn't fun at all; I've had enough of it, Song Yingshi quickly said to the system before she could start to regret her decision.

The system remained silent, and Song Yingshi stopped paying attention to it.

However, just as she opened her mouth to respond to Huai Xu, Song Yingshi suddenly found herself unable to speak or move. It was as if all life signs had disappeared from her body, and her connection with the physical world had been severed. All she could do was stand still like a statue.

As Song Yingshi stared at Huai Xu, hoping to regain control over her body, a mechanical voice echoed loudly in her mind:

"...The system has encountered a fundamental logical error..."

"Beep—"

"Special Mission has been upgraded into a Mandatory Hidden Mission."

"Mandatory Hidden Missions cannot be rejected. Failure to complete one will result in the deduction of all remaining Life Points."

"Mission requirements updated—"

"The canary's attempt to escape its cage has immensely angered its owner. As punishment, the owner breaks the canary's tender wings, ensuring it can never fly away."

"New mission requirement: Reject Huai Xu's request to terminate your previous contract and threaten her to sign a stricter contract."

"The contract cannot be career-oriented; it must be love-oriented."

"Life is precious; please complete the mission earnestly, Host. Do not attempt to exploit loopholes. Do not play with fire."

The system's words ended, and Song Yingshi reconnected with the world and regained control over her body.

Immediately, Song Yingshi took a deep breath, not out of necessity but out of anger. Even with her tolerant nature, the system's actions had crossed the line this time.

However, Song Yingshi didn't have time to curse at the system. As cool air began to fill her lungs again, she returned her focus to Huai Xu.

Song Yingshi: "..."

When Song Yingshi thought about what the system had demanded of her and the look of disappointment Huai Xu would have, the world around her spun, and her vision darkened.

"Little Shi!"

It didn't take long for the news of Song Yingshi fainting to spread among the trainees.

Upon learning the news, Tao Qin, Wan Jiao, and several others paid a visit to the White Tower's infirmary. When they arrived, the doctor on duty was attending to a different trainee who had sprained her ankle.

After approaching Song Yingshi's bed and seeing that she was still unconscious, Wan Jiao looked at Huai Xu and asked, "Is everything alright?"

"The doctor said everything is normal. She likely fainted due to excessive fatigue and low blood sugar. She'll be fine once she wakes up," Huai Xu replied.

On the way here, Wan Jiao and the others had already guessed the situation wasn't too serious, seeing as Song Yingshi hadn't been taken to a hospital. However, when they heard the reason for Song Yingshi's collapse, they grew silent as they looked at Song Yingshi's pale complexion and recalled how lively and energetic she usually was.

Eventually, one of them sympathetically said, "Everyone, take care not to overwork yourselves. No matter how healthy you are, you are still at risk of collapsing from overexhaustion."

Not wanting to disturb Song Yingshi's rest, Wan Jiao and the others quickly left after checking on her, saying they would visit her later at the dormitory.

However, despite their good intentions, it didn't take long before other trainees came to check up on Song Yingshi. It wasn't until dinner time that the stream of visitors stopped.

As the last visitor left, the doctor laughed and said, "You trainees sure have a good relationship with one another."

Huai Xu didn't respond to the comment. Looking at the glucose drip, she asked, "How long until she wakes up?"

"I can't say. She might sleep through the night," the doctor answered.

"Should the glucose drip be replenished?" Huai Xu asked.

"No need; this much will be enough. Aren't you going to have dinner? I can handle things here by myself," the doctor said.

Huai Xu shook her head. How could she possibly eat in this situation?

Seeing that Huai Xu wasn't leaving, the doctor went to the staff cafeteria to eat.

Now, only Song Yingshi and Huai Xu remained in the room.

Besides worrying about Song Yingshi's health, Huai Xu had many emotions swirling in her heart.

Before suggesting the contract termination, Huai Xu had considered Song Yingshi's possible reactions, such as refusing her request, accepting her request, or even cursing at her for being ungrateful. However, she never expected Song Yingshi to stammer, lose focus, and faint after hearing her request.

It was as if…Song Yingshi had received a tremendous mental blow and was trying to escape from what would happen next.

As the clock on the wall ticked, Huai Xu extended her hand and gently traced her fingertips across the faint blue veins on Song Yingshi's hand. Looking at Song Yingshi now, she felt a rare sense of fragility coming from the usually energetic girl.

Halfway through her caress, Huai Xu stopped her fingers on a mole.

It was the mole she had kissed. (ref. Chapter 23.1)

When Song Yingshi regained consciousness, the light around her was dim, and she couldn't see anything. She could only smell the reassuring scent of disinfectant.

As Song Yingshi blinked her eyes, she quickly realized her surroundings were dark, not because she hadn't opened her eyes, but because the sky outside had already darkened.

How long have I been out?

As her hazy mind cleared, Song Yingshi remembered what had happened before she fainted.

Although Song Yingshi was still upset over the system's actions, after several hours of sleep, her emotions had calmed down enough to regain control. She also understood she had to bite the bullet and complete the system's mission.

Besides Daily Missions and Special Missions, this was the second time Song Yingshi had a mission forced upon her. The first time was when she had to play the role of a shameless, domineering president and demand Huai Xu strip before her.

This was the second time a Hidden Mission had appeared, and it even came with the word "Mandatory."

As Song Yingshi carefully read through the mission requirements, she realized that the system had significantly higher standards this time. It even warned her to complete the mission or face immediate death.

Since failure to complete the mission would lead to death, Song Yingshi prudently abandoned her initial idea of just signing a random contract to complete her mission.

Song Yingshi sat on the bed, lost in thought.

Two minutes later, the infirmary door was opened from the outside.

Click.

The lights turned on, and Huai Xu's figure appeared at the door.

Song Yingshi was blinded by the light and squinted, tears welling up in her eyes.

Song Yingshi was about to greet Huai Xu but remembered she still had to complete her mission. So, she picked up where the scene left off before she fainted, humming in feigned displeasure to express the dissatisfaction she should have with Huai Xu.

The blue and white stripes of the hospital bed added a sense of frailty to Song Yingshi. Her pale complexion compounded this effect. Nonetheless, her natural beauty remained apparent.

Song Yingshi's hair was messily piled up behind her head, making her face appear smaller than usual. Her moist almond eyes sparkled with tears, appearing misty and hazy when Huai Xu looked at them.

Song Yingshi seemed like she had been wronged, but refused to say anything. She only let out a soft hum with a soft nasal tone, sounding like she had just woken up.

Huai Xu's footsteps stopped halfway, and after a while, she said softly, "Let's go back, Little Shi."

Hm? Song Yingshi looked at Huai Xu in surprise. This was the first time she had heard Huai Xu calling her Little Shi. Her attitude seems better than usual. Did my fainting frighten her?

The more Song Yingshi thought about it, the more she felt this was the case.
