Necromancer: I Am A Disaster Chapter 65 - This Is The Last Time

The air on the island was thick with vapor, and every breath carried a strong, fishy stench.

The humidity was overwhelming—like being submerged in water.

It was stifling and deeply uncomfortable.

“What a miserable place. It reeks.” Ning Yiyi muttered, covering her nose. She clearly couldn’t stand the smell.

At the island’s center, a towering mountain peak dominated the landscape.

At its summit lied the Mermaid Dungeon.

From afar, a massive waterfall cascades down its rocky face, shimmering in the light.

At the top, the dungeon’s entrance resembled an underwater vortex, spinning endlessly.

Jiang Taotao gazed up, confirming their path.

The island was larger than expected, and after passing through a water curtain, the group naturally split up and scattered.

“Move out. The target is Mermaid Dungeon.” Jiang Taotao commanded firmly, “Avoid unnecessary combat with monsters.”

Without hesitation, she sprinted ahead, and the others quickly followed.

The island was riddled with pools of water.

Strange creatures lurked within the pools—half-human, half-fish beings covered in thick, glistening scales.

Far from the elegant Mermaids of legend, these monsters were grotesque. Their razor-sharp teeth gleamed under the sun, wicked and steel-strong.

Narrow footpaths wound between the pools. Without a word, the party advanced swiftly, moving as one.

Splash!

Water exploded into the air as a Mermaid-type monster burst out of a nearby pool, launching straight at the party.

Jiang Taotao reacted instantly, activating her Knight-class skill: Taunt!

This was the signature skill of Knight-type classes.

The Mermaid monster, as if deeply offended, turned sharply toward Jiang Taotao and charged at her, its eyes flashing red with unrestrained fury and savagery.

Lin Moyu’s Detection spell fell on the creature.

[Mermaid Soldier]

[Level: 19]

[Strength: 300]

[Agility: 150]

[Spirit: 200]

[Physique: 320]

[Skills: None]

Based on its attributes, it was a standard level 19 monster.

However, it was weak and lacked any skills, making it no threat to them.

Skill: Charge!

Before the Mermaid could close the distance, Jiang Taotao surged forward, shield raised.

She crossed over ten meters in an instant and slammed into it with a thud, the impact launching the monster several meters backward.

In the same breath, a Fireball tore through the air—

Boom!

It hit dead-on, erupting in flames around the creature.

However, it still didn’t die.

Wounded and burning, the Mermaid shrieked and lunged at Jiang Taotao again.

Then—there was a flicker of movement behind it.

Ning Yiyi appeared beside it like a ghost, and her dagger gleamed with deadly intent shot forward.

Skill: Fatal Blow!

The moment the skill activated, Ning Yiyi’s dagger struck true, piercing the Mermaid-type monster directly in the heart.

Its scales cracked under the blade. The creature let out a shrill scream and collapsed.

Just then, an Ice Arrow slammed into its body.

A crackle echoed as frost spread rapidly.

In seconds, the monster was frozen solid—completely immobilized.

[Killed level 19 Mermaid Soldier, EXP +1,500]

[Jiang Taotao obtained fish scale x1]

Lin Moyu received the notification that the Mermaid was killed.

With six members in the party, his share of EXP wasn't large.

He didn’t mind. This was a trial, not a level grind.

As the party leader, Jiang Taotao automatically received all loot drops.

The party quickly resumed their advance.

Along the way, more monsters emerged in waves.

The closer they got to the mountain peak, the more numerous the creatures became.

The monsters' levels also increased steadily.

By now, they were already dealing with level 21 monsters, requiring considerable effort to defeat them.

After defeating one particularly level 21 Mermaid, Jiang Taotao glanced toward the mountain peak.

“At this rate, it’ll take us at least three hours just to reach the base of the mountain.” She said, frowning, “And the climb itself will take time as well. Our progress is too slow.”

She turned to Miao Yu: “Next time we encounter a monster, focus on restraining it. Let’s avoid direct fights if possible. Now, let’s pick up the pace and head straight to the dungeon.”

Miao Yu nodded, “Got it.”

With their plan set, the party quickened their pace.

The next time a monster appeared, Miao Yu stepped forward.

Skill: Wind Binding!

Wind elemental particles whipped through the air and wrapped tightly around the monster as if translucent chains.

The creature froze in place, unable to move.

The skill would hold for one full minute—long enough for the party to sprint out of sight.

Thanks to this tactic, their pace increased dramatically.

In just 20 minutes, the foot of the mountain came into view.

But as Jiang Taotao had feared, they had fallen behind.

By now, other parties had already reached the foot of the mountain, far ahead of them.

A waterfall cascaded from the mountaintop, and the only climbable path wasn’t particularly spacious, with numerous Mermaid-type monsters standing in wait.

At the foot of the mountain, the waterfall had carved out a series of interconnected pools, creating winding paths.

Mermaid-type monsters lurked everywhere, making them nearly impossible to avoid.

At this point, some parties were battling the surrounding monsters and preparing to ascend the mountain.

Jiang Taotao scanned the scene, jaw clenched, “If we charge through, can you handle the monsters?”

Miao Yu shook her head, “There are too many. I can’t restrain them all.”

She hesitated, then added, “And their level... it’s 22—higher than mine. My skills might fail.”

Miao Yu had already experienced several skill failures—thankfully only against single monsters so far. In those cases, the party simply eliminated the threat.

But the scene ahead was different. The area was swarming with Mermaid-type monsters, dense as a military encampment.

Jiang Taotao frowned, her brow furrowed with worry.

If they were forced to clear the path monster by monster, it would take at least an hour. By then, they’d fall hopelessly behind.

But charging through without Miao Yu’s control? That was too risky.

If anything went wrong, they could be completely surrounded, and then things would spiral out of control fast.

For the moment, Jiang Taotao hesitated—unsure of their next move.

That was when Lin Moyu stepped forward, eyes scanning the terrain, “I’ll handle it.”

Ling Zhen scoffed, “You? What can someone like you, a level 17 even do?”

Until now, Lin Moyu had stayed silent—observing, conserving his energy.

To most of the group, he was just a quiet tagalong. Only Ning Yiyi knew better.

She clicked her tongue and snapped, “Ling Zhen, shut it.”

Jiang Taotao silenced Ling Zhen with a sharp glare, then turned to Lin Moyu, “What’s your plan?”

“I’ll use the Skeletal Warrior to draw the monsters’ attention.” He replied.

Jiang Taotao's Her eyes lit up. Right, his class is Necromancer.

She hadn’t given much thought to what that class could do, but she remembered now—he had a summon.

It was a good strategy.

At that moment, she noticed that some of the other parties also had Summoners, probably to use their summons to draw away the monsters.

“All right. We’ll leave it to you.” Jiang Taotao nodded, then raised her voice to the others, “Get ready. We charge while the monsters are being lured away!”

Lin Moyu gave a slight nod, and the Skeletal Warrior bolted off, its bones releasing clicking sounds.

“So fast…” Jiang Taotao’s eyes narrowed. The Skeletal Warrior’s speed was far beyond her expectations.

In the blink of an eye, it had sprinted dozens of meters, right into the midst of a group of Mermaid-type monsters.

The monsters shrieked and lunged at it.

But the Skeletal Warrior didn’t engage. It spun and dashed away, leading them on a chase.

Then it reached another pool—provoked another group of monsters and darted away.

In moments, a dozen or more Mermaid-type monsters were trailing behind the skeleton, howling as they pursued it across the terrain.

And it didn’t stop.

Pool after pool, it collected more. The horde behind it grew until over a hundred monsters were following it.

With the path ahead finally clear, Jiang Taotao shouted under her breath, “Let’s move!”

The party surged forward, running full speed.

Up ahead, the Skeletal Warrior stayed just far enough ahead of the monsters, continuing to draw them away like a grim pied piper.

Thanks to the distraction, their progress was smooth.

Within minutes, they reached the foot of the mountain.

By now, the Skeletal Warrior had led the entire horde far away.

With a silent command from Lin Moyu, the undead troop suddenly vanished, pulled back into his summon space.

The Mermaid-type monsters, suddenly deprived of their target, fell into a state of confusion.

Jiang Taotao exhaled in relief, “Well done.”

Ning Yiyi grinned, “Awesome.”

Duan Gao and Miao Yu looked at Lin Moyu with admiration, thanking him.

But Ling Zhen scoffed, “Why didn’t you do that from the start? We would've been here a lot sooner.”

Lin Moyu turned to him slowly, staring at him as if he were an idiot.

Isn’t this guy a Mage? Mages are supposed to be sharp, aren’t they? Why does he seem so clueless?

Ning Yiyi snorted, “Ling Zhen, shut your trap. If you’re so capable, why don’t you try doing it?”

Lin Moyu’s tone was cold and flat, “This is the last time.”

Ling Zhen gave him a look of mockery, “Tch. You’re just relying on a summon…”

Before he could say another word, Jiang Taotao cut in sharply, “Enough. Zip it.”

Everyone fell silent.

By now, it was obvious who the real problem was. Lin Moyu rarely spoke, but every time he did, Ling Zhen found a reason to pick a fight.

Suddenly—screams echoed from the mountaintop.

All heads turned upward.

A swarm of Mermaid-type monsters was charging down the mountain trail like a flood.

Several parties, mid-climb, were retreating in a panic—scrambling to escape the descending tide of monsters.
