Necromancer: I Am A Disaster Chapter 64 - Trial Mission: Mermaid's Tears

A massive tower suddenly appeared in the sky. It was a structure known far and wide.

"Shenxia Tower!" Ning Yiyi whispered.

Even Lin Moyu was taken aback. He had never seen it before, and now it hovered above them, radiant light pouring from its peak, bathing Qianlong Institute in brilliance.

In an instant, the students of Qianlong Institute were teleported to the trial site.

The teleportation lasted over 10 seconds—long enough to suggest the destination was far from Xiajing Academy.

The sound of waves filled the air.

Xihai City was by the sea, and Lin Moyu was far too familiar with the sound of waves to mistake it.

The trial site was located by the sea.

His feet touched solid ground once more.

His vision quickly adjusted as the blinding sunlight poured down.

For a moment, Lin Moyu felt as if he had returned to the shores of Xihai City.

Ning Yiyi’s small face had gone pale, her hand clutching Lin Moyu’s arm tightly. A faint pout pressed her lips as she muttered, “My head’s spinning… long-distance teleportation is the worst.”

“You get used to it.” Jiang Taotao said, “It’s always rough the first few times.”

She glanced at Lin Moyu, surprised. He looked completely unaffected.

Does he use teleportation often? The thought surfaced unbidden—and with it, much of her previous contempt for him quietly faded.

Lin Moyu calmly surveyed the area.

They were on an island.

Behind them, not far off, stretched a coastline.

At their feet lay a soft, sandy beach, where waves rolled in one after another, crashing rhythmically against the shore.

Ahead, just a short distance away, stood a glowing light curtain, encompassing nearly the entire island.

They stood outside of it.

Peering through the barrier, they could see movement—countless monsters roaming the island within.

In front of each person, a sparkling stone floated in midair.

"The Mission Stone." Jiang Taotao muttered, then quickly reached out and grabbed hers.

Lin Moyu followed suit.

The moment his fingers closed around the stone, the trial's details flowed into his mind.

The island was called Mermaid Island, and it was teeming with Mermaid-type monsters.

At the heart of the island lay a dungeon—Mermaid Dungeon.

Their mission was clear: enter the Mermaid Dungeon at the island’s center, defeat the dungeon’s boss, and obtain a Mermaid’s Tear.

There were three key points for the trial.

The first point was that to enter Mermaid Island, a party's average level must not exceed 20.

A party could have a maximum of six members.

Since they would face a boss, the Knight’s level must naturally be higher.

To maintain the required average, a lower-level member was necessary to balance the team.

Originally, that lower-level slot had been reserved for Ling Zhen’s younger brother. But at the last moment, Lin Moyu took his place—triggering Ling Zhen’s resentment.

The second point was that Mermaid’s Tears only dropped in the nightmare rank dungeon.

That meant the party’s overall combat power couldn’t be too low. A weak party wouldn’t stand a chance of clearing it.

The third point was that only three Mermaid’s Tears would drop.

Only the first three parties to clear the dungeon would be able to receive them.

Lin Moyu frowned slightly. He didn’t understand why this information had been kept under wraps.

“In the end, it’s just clearing a dungeon.” He thought, “Is there something special about the Mermaid’s Tears?”

As if reading his mind, Jiang Taotao finished reading the mission and spoke in a grave tone, "This trial is unexpectedly being held at Mermaid Island..."

Jiang Taotao had completed numerous trial missions and possessed extensive experience, making her far more knowledgeable than the others.

"Mermaid Dungeon only drops three Mermaid’s Tears each year.” She said, “These Tears can be used to craft a very special item—something of great use.”

“Mermaid Island isn’t located within the territory of the Shenxia Empire. That’s why every year, aside from our empire, other nations send their class users here as well.”

“This time, Qianlong Institute dispatched ten parties. We’re Party No. 2.”

“That means we’re not just competing against members of our own institute… but also against elites from other countries.”

Ning Yiyi asked, “What do we do if we run into parties from other nations? Are we supposed to kill them?”

Her eyes flicked subconsciously to Lin Moyu, who had taken lives before.

At the mention of killing people, the others grew visibly tense, but Lin Moyu remained unfazed.

Jiang Taotao shook her head, “Usually, no. In the past, there’ve been scuffles—some parties guarding the dungeon entrance, blocking others. But full-on killing is rare.”

A collective sigh of relief escaped the group.

Still, Jiang Taotao’s tone sharpened, “But don’t take this lightly. People have died here before.”

She glanced toward the light curtain, “Alright. Let’s get ready to enter Mermaid Island. Duan Gao, status buffs!”

At the command, Duan Gao sprang into action, promptly releasing his skills.

In the blink of an eye, rings of light shimmered over each party member—

Strength Enhancement! Agility Enhancement! Defense Enhancement! Magic Enhancement!

Everyone's attributes surged.

Lin Moyu could feel the changes immediately. His strength, agility, physique, and spirit attributes had all increased by 30%. On top of that, the power of his Mage-type skills was amplified by 20%.

These status buffs would last for an hour—greatly enhancing evewryone’s combat capability.

The Prophet’s support was no joke. In high-difficulty dungeons, having a Prophet could be the difference between victory and annihilation.

With Duan Gao’s buffs, the party’s overall combat power skyrocketed.

But in Lin Moyu’s eyes… it was still lacking.

Compared to his talent, the Prophet’s boost was far too lacking.

A thought crossed his mind, “What if the buffs were applied to my Skeletal Warriors?”

With a mere flicker of intent, a Skeletal Warrior materialized beside him.

The air shifted instantly.

A cold wind swept through the group, the temperature dropping noticeably.

The sudden presence of the Skeletal Warrior startled the others.

The Skeletal Warrior was accompanied by a cold wind, with soul fire dancing in its hollow eyes, gripping a blade that exuded a cold sheen.

Occasional grating sounds echoed from its joints, like metal scraping bone.

Duan Gao, who had been applying status buffs to the others, was startled greatly, and his skillcasting faltered.

Miao Yu yelped, darting behind Jiang Taotao.

“Crap—”

“Undead… it’s an undead summon!”

Even Jiang Taotao couldn’t hide her unease, “Lin Moyu… is that thing yours?”

Lin Moyu glanced at Duan Gao, “Can you buff it too?”

"O, okay."

Duan Gao stunned for a moment. But after a brief pause, he forced himself to steady his nerves and resumed casting.

As light shimmered across the sandy beach, the party member received status buffs.

They were all superior class users.

In most places, superior class users were rare. But here, they were common.

Lin Moyu finally understood what White God had meant by "internal members" of Xiajing Academy.

These weren’t ordinary students. They were talents identified early, nurtured within Xiajing Academy from a young age. They had awakened their classes here, trained under the best mentors, and had access to the finest resources.

They weren’t just strong—they were polished, hand-crafted by the academy itself. Class users like these were on a completely different tier from their peers elsewhere.

Take Ning Yiyi, for instance. She was the same age as Lin Moyu but already level 19—and far more knowledgeable.

Jiang Taotao, only a year older, had reached level 23.

Duan Gao suddenly frowned, “Eh? That’s odd… My skills aren’t working on it.”

The status buffs disappear the moment they land on the Skeletal Warrior.”

He tried a few more times, but to no avail.

Lin Moyu remained calm, unsurprised.

It was probably due to his talent being too powerful. It overwhelmed the effects of Duan Gao’s low-level skills.

“Can’t even receive buffs? Truly useless.” Ling Zhen scoffed from the side, his voice dripping with contempt.

Lin Moyu turned a cold gaze on Ling Zhen.

This was the third—maybe fourth—time he’d been provoked. His patience was wearing thin.

The Skeletal Warrior’s eyes flickered crimson. It turned its skull toward Ling Zhen, soul fire pulsing violently within its sockets. The air grew colder.

Ling Zhen’s hair stood on end. Instinctively, he stepped back, his stave flaring with a burst of firelight.

Before things could escalate, Jiang Taotao moved.

She stepped between them in a flash, voice firm. “If you want to fight, wait until the trial’s over.”

Lin Moyu gave a slight nod and withdrew his gaze.

Ling Zhen drew in a deep breath, hands clenched tight. He hadn’t expected it, but when the undead stared him down, he had felt the threat of death.

Then, with a low rumble, the trial officially began.

Jiang Taotao called out, “Let’s go. Enter the island!”

As one, the party moved forward.

The light curtain shimmered as they approached, recognizing them as a unit. Their average level: exactly 20—just enough to meet the entry requirements.

Stepping through the barrier felt like passing through a wall of water.

In the next instant, they were on Mermaid Island.
