Necromancer: I Am A Disaster Chapter 58 - Top Scorer Rewards; Invitation To A Trial By Fire

White God unexpectedly paid a personal visit.

Lin Moyu served them water—just plain boiled water.

Lu Yun quickly explained, “Please don’t mind it, Sir. Moyu’s sister enrolled at Xiajing Academy last year, so he’s been living alone.”

Bai Yiyuan scanned the room. The furnishings were sparse, even a bit shabby. It was clear that Lin Moyu came from modest means—perhaps even poverty. For someone with such talent, it was a rare background.

With a smile, Bai Yiyuan asked, “Lin Moyu’s sister is also at Xiajing Academy?”

Lu Yun nodded, “Yes, her name is Lin Mohan. She was admitted last year.”

With his lofty status, it was no surprise Bai Yiyuan hadn’t heard of her. But now, he silently committed the name to memory—perhaps he’d meet her in the future.

“Both siblings admitted into Xiajing Academy. Impressive.” Bai Yiyuan said, casting a thoughtful glance at Lin Moyu.

He had already been briefed by Lu Yun: Lin Moyu was known for being quiet and reserved. So far, he lived up to that description. Perhaps this calm, composed demeanor gave him an edge over his peers.

“May I see your summon?” Bai Yiyuan asked.

Lin Moyu nodded silently. A Skeletal Warrior materialized in the room without a sound.

Bai Yiyuan examined it, “Its four attributes are only at 250. That seems average. So how did it display such overwhelming power in the Battle-Space?”

At Bai Yiyuan’s level, there was no need to consciously activate Detection—it was second nature by now.

Lin Moyu suddenly realized something: others couldn’t see the effects of his talent. They only saw the Skeletal Warrior’s basic attributes, not the amplification his talent applied.

Bai Yiyuan continued, “What talent have you awakened?”

Lu Yun looked genuinely surprised, “Moyu, you actually awakened a talent?”

Lin Moyu responded softly, “It’s amplification—amplification of skills.”

A knowing smile appeared on Bai Yiyuan’s face, “I suspected as much, judging by your performance in the Battle-Space.”

He didn’t press further, instead shifting the conversation, “There are two reasons for my visit.”

“First, your rewards. You were supposed to receive them upon entering the academy, but since I was coming here anyway, I brought them with me.”

“Second, I’ve come to personally escort you to the academy. The day after tomorrow, there will be a trial by fire, and I hope you’ll take part in it.”

Bai Yiyuan got straight to the point.

Lin Moyu asked calmly, “What is the trial by fire?”

“It’s a special event within Xiajing Academy.” Bai Yiyuan explained, “Only internal members are eligible to participate. As for the details... you’ll only be told if you agree to participate.”

Lin Moyu felt slightly curious.

From Bai Yiyuan’s wording, it was clear the trial by fire wasn’t mandatory—participation was voluntary. That in itself was interesting.

And then, the term “internal members.” Lin Moyu wasn’t sure what that truly meant. His understanding of Xiajing Academy was still limited.

The secrecy surrounding the trial by fire hinted that it was no ordinary assessment.

He quietly replayed White God’s words in his mind.

Caution had to be upheld at all times. No matter the situation, it was paramount to stay cautious and analyze things with a calm mind.

Bai Yiyuan watched him, then smiled approvingly, “You’re cautious. That’s a good trait to have.”

“I can’t reveal the full details, but what I can say is—this is a rare opportunity. One not available to just anyone.”

“Truth be told, you weren’t initially on the list. I’ve personally made sure you have this chance.”

After a moment of thought, Lin Moyu replied without hesitation, “I’ll participate.”

Since Bai Yiyuan had gone out of his way to personally deliver the invitation, refusing at this point would be the same as disrespecting him.

Lin Moyu wasn’t foolish—he knew better than to offend someone like Bai Yiyuan.

“Good.” Bai Yiyuan nodded, “Then let me give you your rewards first.”

“As the imperial top scorer, you're entitled to several generous prizes.”

A soft glow shimmered in Bai Yiyuan’s hand, and several items materialized before them.

Lin Moyu’s eyes narrowed slightly. He recognized one of them immediately—a skill scroll.

“The first reward is 100,000 points.” Bai Yiyuan said.

“This is a bonus exclusively for the imperial top scorer. It’s separate from the points you earned during the great examination.”

Lin Moyu had earned 34,605 points from the examination. With this additional reward, his total now exceeded 130,000 points—a staggering amount.

Even many senior students at Xiajing Academy might not possess that much.

Bai Yiyuan handed over a sleek, black card, “All your points have been transferred here.”

“You may have heard that, within the academy, points are more valuable than gold coins. That’s absolutely true. You’ll understand why once you arrive.”

He gestured toward the next items.

“The second reward, also tied to your top scorer position, includes an Elementary Skill Scroll and an Intermediate Skill Scroll.”

“The third is a special bonus for your exceptional performance in the Battle-Space—permission to enter Shenxia Tower once.”

Bai Yiyuan paused slightly, as if to emphasize the significance, “I won’t explain the details now. You’ll learn everything once you reach the academy.”

“But I can tell you this: gaining access to Shenxia Tower is a rare privilege. Especially for a first entry—it’s not something to be wasted. Make sure you’re fully prepared before you enter it.”

The repeated emphasis on Shenxia Tower made its importance obvious.

Lin Moyu gave a slight nod, “Understood.”
