Necromancer: I Am A Disaster Chapter 41 - The First Stage Of The Examination: Instakill!

“No questions allowed? What if you don’t understand something?” Several people muttered under their breath.

Suddenly, the Trial Tower emitted several beams of light that enveloped those who spoke. In the blink of an eye, they vanished.

“Rule violation. Qualification terminated.” Boomed the imposing voice.

Mmm!

The thousands of examinees immediately went pale, instinctively covering their mouths. The rules were stricter than anyone had imagined. Even the faintest murmur wasn't tolerated. The entire area fell into a deafening silence—one could hear a pin drop. Everyone’s breathing became cautious, as if even a single wrong breath might disqualify them.

After years of preparation, being eliminated at the final stretch would be a real waste.

Lin Moyu recalled how Lu Yun had warned them repeatedly: “Follow the rules of the great examination to the letter. They are incredibly strict, and any violation, no matter how small, will have severe consequences.”

His gaze drifted towards Gao Yang, concerned that his chatty nature might get him into trouble. For someone like Gao Yang, being unable to speak was likely more painful than death.

But Gao Yang had covered his mouth tightly, clearly not trusting himself to stay quiet.

“This guy has some self-awareness.” Lin Moyu thought with a smirk. At least there was no need to worry about Gao Yang for now.

The commanding voice echoed once more, capturing everyone’s attention, “The Trial Tower assigns different trials based on your class. Support classes will face non-combat trials. Combat classes will face combat trials. Once you pass the basic trial, you will be allowed to select the level of difficulty. Higher difficulty will yield more points. Points represent your score and can be taken with you to the academies. In the academies, points are more valuable than gold coins.”

The voice paused briefly before continuing, “Lastly, let me explain the examination rules. You may use any equipment you are carrying. But apart from that, no other items are permitted. If you're caught violating this rule, your qualification will be terminated. As soon as you enter the Trial Tower, your storage space will be locked.”

The imposing voice outlined the examination rules in detail. Anyone who wasn’t a fool could easily understand them. Those who murmured earlier had brought it upon themselves.

"Now, line up and enter the tower."

Everyone quickly formed a queue, entering the Trial Tower in an orderly fashion. Even the typically haughty young masters and ladies, who were known for acting with entitlement, maintained discipline. No one dared to act recklessly under such strict scrutiny.

The great examination was the most important event in the Shenxia Empire each year. It wasn’t just happening in Jiangning Province, but across all the provinces of the empire. More than 100,000 people would be participating today, and the empire’s top figures would be watching closely. Any disruptions or scenes would invite serious consequences.

Wang Zihao was also in the crowd. As the young guild leader of the Dynasty Guild, he was normally arrogant and overbearing. He had never waited in line. But today, even he didn’t dare cause any trouble.

Lin Moyu followed the others into the tower. Before entering, he had already removed his Cloaking Badge.

As he stepped inside, light enveloped him, and he was teleported into an independent space. Just as he had suspected, the Trial Tower functioned like a dungeon, with each participant being transported to an independent space.

At the top of the Trial Tower, several middle-aged figures watched over the proceedings. Each one wore clothing reflecting their class—support, Warrior, Mage, and more, all above level 70. They were the appointed examiners responsible for overseeing the great examination in Jiangning Province this year.

[Lin Moyu, level 16, Necromancer]

Lin Moyu's footage appeared on a screen before the examiners.

“So, this is the new class reported by Xihai City’s No. 1 High School.”

“It’s been a while since a new class emerged. The last one was over 30 years ago.”

“Right, the Sprenbringer class, a control-type combat class, classified as superior. That was more than three decades ago.”

“According to Xihai City’s report, this Necromancer class is a summoning-type Mage class.”

“Let’s see if this new class has anything special. I hope it’s not a disappointment.”

“It shouldn't be lacking—definitely not weaker than a superior class—otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to reach level 16.”

“Let’s start him off with the superior rank Mage scenario.”

After deliberating, the examiners finalized the course for Lin Moyu's examination.

A creature appeared before Lin Moyu—a monster with a wolf's head, dressed in a robe, clutching a stave in its hand. It was a Mage-type monster.

A light screen separated Lin Moyu from the Mage-type monster, blocking any attempts to scan or gather information on it.

“Kill the Worg Beastman Mage.” The voice instructed, offering no further details.

A countdown began to flash on the light screen. Lin Moyu steadied himself and summoned a Skeletal Warrior, ready for combat.

3... 2... 1

The instant the light screen vanished, Lin Moyu’s Skeletal Warrior surged forward, charging toward the Worg Beastman Mage. However, his Soul Blaze skill was faster. As soon as the barrier disappeared, the spell ignited on the Worg Beastman Mage’s head.

The creature let out a bloodcurdling scream and collapsed to the ground.

"It died?" Lin Moyu blinked in disbelief. Wasn't that too easy? He had expected a tougher fight.

Meanwhile, at the top of the tower, the examiners were equally stunned.

"What skill was that?"

“Instakill! How did he kill it instantly?”

“Is there something wrong with the data? Maybe an error in the scenario settings?”

“No, the settings are correct. The monster was set at two levels higher than him, just as the superior class difficulty dictates.”

In the Trial Tower, different classes and levels faced different monsters. Superior classes were matched against creatures two levels above them. Advanced classes faced monsters one level higher, while other classes fought opponents of equal level. Additionally, Mages battled Mage-type monsters, and Warriors fought Warrior-types.

Though many could eventually defeat their assigned monsters, but an instakill like Lin Moyu’s was unprecedented.
