I’ll Take That Opportunity Chapter 11 - An Elder’s Opportunity

Blood sprayed through the air. Dong Feng clutched his throat, eyes wide with disbelief, before collapsing lifelessly.

"I’ve always believed the dead keep secrets best."

While gazing at Dong Feng’s corpse, Ye Lin wiped his sword clean.

Two months in the sect had taught him a simple truth—hesitation meant death.

Surveying the three corpses before him, he retrieved the Bone-Melting Powder taken from Zhang Liang and scattered it over them. In moments, the bodies liquefied into pools that seeped into the earth, leaving no trace.

With all traces erased, Ye Lin headed back to his residence.

"Fate prediction must have changed by now."

He knew Zhao Hu and the others’ disappearance would stir chaos in the outer sect, and those who knew what they were up to would inevitably suspect him first.

He believed that the disappearance of Zhao Hu and the other two would certainly cause a storm in the outer sect. However, those in the know would undoubtedly suspect him first.

[Cultivation base: 6th layer Qi Refinement]

[Fate grade: black (fraught with calamity)]

[Fate trait: shrouded in misfortune, transcendental perception]

[Fate prediction: the disappearance of Zhao Hu and company will incite turmoil in the outer sect. Those scheming against you will pause their actions. In a month and a half, Zhang Xiao will exit seclusion. Learning of Zhang Liang’s death, he won’t retaliate immediately. Instead, he will challenge an inner disciple, claim victory, and ascend to the inner sect. Then, he will come for you—overpowering and killing you.]

[Upcoming opportunity: none]

[Shrouded in misfortune: you are prone to accidents and betrayals.]

[Transcendental perception: you possess an incredible ability to grasp cultivation methods, mastering in days what others take months to learn.]

Reading his fate prediction, Ye Lin stroked his chin. Zhang Xiao wouldn’t seek immediate revenge upon exiting seclusion. Instead, he would first challenge an inner disciple.

Once he became an inner disciple, he would gain the sect’s protection. After all, the sect wouldn’t punish an inner disciple for killing a mere handyman overseer. To them, the handyman disciple was expendable—easily replaced. But inner disciples? They were the future of the sect.

Zhang Xiao’s plan would be prudent and well thought out.

"Right now, my cultivation base places me among the top in the outer sect. If I become an outer disciple, I’ll be rewarded with three Spirit Refinement Pills—enough to significantly boost my cultivation base."

"More importantly, I’ll gain the sect’s protection. In three days, I will claim my place as an outer disciple." Ye Lin muttered to himself.

The Azure Cloud Sect was rife with competition. Even a lowly handyman disciple could ascend to the ranks of the inner sect—if they had the strength. But strength alone wasn’t enough to rise higher. Spirit root mattered just as much.

To the sect, handyman disciples—including the overseer—were nothing more than insignificant errand boys. Outer disciples, however, were a different story. They received a monthly allowance of Spirit Stones and pills, along with a measure of protection.

Time passed quickly.

By the next day, the outer sect was in chaos. News spread like wildfire, drawing disciples toward the back of the mountain.

"The back of the mountain is terrifying! I was just there yesterday, and now three outer disciples were killed last night!"

"Good grief, I’m never going back there. It’s too dangerous."

Hearing the discussions of the handyman disciples outside, Ye Lin’s heart tightened.

The Azure Cloud Sect was truly formidable. He had killed Zhao Hu and the others in the back of the mountain, erasing all traces of the fight. Yet, by morning, the sect had already pinpointed the location of their deaths.

"Did anyone hear anything unusual in the back of the mountain last night?" A hoarse voice cut through the chatter. An old man with a white beard approached Ye Lin, his eyes deep and unreadable.

Ye Lin immediately cupped his hands in salute, "Elder, I was cultivating all night and noticed nothing."

This old man was no ordinary figure—an outer sect elder, a terrifying expert 9th layer Qi Refinement stage cultivation base.

"Last night, three outer disciples perished in the back of the mountain." The elder’s eyes gleamed coldly, "As the handyman overseer, that area falls under your jurisdiction. Are you certain you know nothing?"

A chilling pressure descended, pressing against Ye Lin like an invisible hand.

Ye Lin clenched his teeth, resisting the suffocating pressure, enunciating each word carefully "Elder, I was cultivating quietly all night. I truly know nothing."

"Hmph!" The elder scoffed, "As the overseer, you bear some responsibility. Your sect points for the next three years will be deducted."

With a flick of his sleeve, the elder turned and strode toward the back of the mountain.

Ye Lin watched him go, his expression dark.

The handyman overseer received a fixed amount of points from the Outer Elder Hall every month. This so-called punishment? Just an excuse for the elder to pocket them himself.

"Old bastard, let’s see how long you can keep this up."

At that moment, a panel appeared before Ye Lin.

[Name: Zhang San]

[Cultivation base: 9th layer Qi Refinement]

[Fate grade: white (ordinary)]

[Fate trait: cuckold master]

[Fate prediction: unable to progress in cultivation and with your lifespan nearing its end, you will descend the mountain in search of an opportunity to break through to the Foundation Establishment stage. However, along the way, you will encounter a deviant devil who will drain your lifeblood, and you will die.]

[Upcoming opportunity: tomorrow, on your trip to Xifeng City to purchase life-extending medicine, you will encounter a street vendor near the city gate. Among the goods, you will find a talisman in a blue box. Once fully activated, it can unleash a 9th layer Qi Refinement stage full-force attack—an invaluable trump card.]

[Cuckold master: you love acquiring new wives. If you're not already being cheated on, it's only a matter of time.]

Ye Lin's eyes gleamed with excitement, "I can actually see an elder’s opportunity now…"

Previously, he hadn't been able to. It seemed the panel’s ability to reveal fate was tied to his own strength—if the gap was too great, the information remained hidden.

His thoughts shifted, "Will the Azure Cloud Sect be invaded by deviant devils in half a year? Or is something else at play?"

He had checked the panels of several disciples, and they all shared a grim destiny—having their lifeblood drained by deviant devils in six months. That couldn't be a coincidence.

A catastrophe was coming.

Only by growing strong enough could he survive it.

"Xifeng City… a talisman capable of unleashing a 9th layer Qi Refinement stage attack? If I could get my hands on it, it would be an extra safeguard for when Zhang Xiao emerged from seclusion."

Talismans were powerful tools created by talisman crafters, infused with the essence of heaven and earth through intricate runes. Once activated, they could unleash devastating attacks.

Without hesitation, Ye Lin set off down the mountain.

Xifeng City was the closest city under the Azure Cloud Sect’s protection—one of nearly a hundred cities within its vast domain.

Ye Lin moved cautiously, carefully avoiding the demon beasts that prowled the area. The lands surrounding the Azure Cloud Sect teemed with demon beasts—one misstep could mean death.

Typically, disciples descending the mountain for tasks were escorted by an elder. However, if they went alone, they had to exercise extreme caution.

The journey was tense, filled with minor scares but no real threats. After half a day, Ye Lin finally emerged from the mountain and set off toward Xifeng City.

As he approached the gates, a guard stepped forward, blocking his path, "What’s your business here?"

"I have matters to attend to." Ye Lin replied calmly.

The guard eyed him suspiciously, "Where are you from? Bandits have been running rampant in the area lately. How do I know you’re not one of them?"

Ye Lin blinked, momentarily dumbfounded by the accusation. Without a word, he retrieved his handyman overseer token and held it up.

"I'm the Azure Cloud Sect’s handyman overseer. I came down the mountain on some business. Is there a problem?"

The guard’s demeanor shifted instantly. His stern expression melted into a fawning smile. He stepped aside hurriedly, saying respectfully, "No problem! No problem at all! Please, go right in!"
