I’ll Take That Opportunity Chapter 10 - Killing Zhao Hu

After returning to his residence, Ye Lin shut the door and window.

As the handyman overseer, he was eligible to apply for a small pavilion within the sect, but due to time constraints, he had postponed the matter for now.

"The attacker must have been Zhao Hu. No matter—let’s check my fate prediction. This time, things should be fine."

[Cultivation base: 6th layer Qi Refinement]

[Fate grade: black (fraught with calamity)]

[Fate trait: shrouded in misfortune, transcendental perception]

[Fate prediction: having confirmed your cultivation base, tomorrow night Zhao Hu and Nan Xing will lure you to the back of the mountain and attack. However, they are completely unaware that you have concealed your true strength. You will kill them instead and seize valuable resources. But this will be witnessed by Dong Feng, who will be hiding in the shadows. Dong Feng will immediately report the incident to an outer elder. Believing you have stumbled upon a great opportunity, the elder will imprison you. Despite your vehement denials, he will ultimately kill you.]

[Upcoming opportunity: none]

[Shrouded in misfortune: you are prone to accidents and betrayals.]

[Transcendental perception: you possess an incredible ability to grasp cultivation methods, mastering in days what others take months to learn.]

"Dong Feng? Was he the one watching me that day?"

Ye Lin sat on his bed, stroking his chin thoughtfully.

Everyone in the outer sect with ambition sought to capture him, hoping to curry favor with Zhang Xiao, the top disciple of the outer sect.

For now, only Zhao Hu and Nan Xing were actively targeting him, planning to strike tomorrow night.

In other words, they were being watched by Dong Feng—a classic case of the mantis stalking the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind.

"I’ll have to be careful tomorrow night. And while I’m at it, I’ll kill Dong Feng too. That should put an end to this." Ye Lin muttered coldly.

Before dealing with Zhang Xiao, Ye Lin couldn't afford to expose his true strength.

"I can’t let this little rat reveal my cultivation base. In that case, let’s find out where he's hiding."

After organizing his thoughts, Ye Lin closed his eyes and began cultivating, aiming to push his state to the pinnacle within the time he had left.

This time, he was going to kill three 5th layer Qi Refinement stage cultivators. Although he was already at the 6th layer, he couldn't afford to be careless—he had to eliminate every single one of them.

If even one escaped, disaster would be inevitable.

Just like that, a day and a night passed in the blink of an eye.

The next evening, his wooden door was suddenly shoved open.

"Are you the handyman overseer? There have been frequent demon beast sightings in the back of the mountain. We need your assistance with the investigation. Let’s go." Nan Xing spoke impatiently.

To them, handyman disciples were nothing more than ants. Even the handyman overseer was merely a slightly bigger one.

Ye Lin remained calm, showing no anger.

"Is that so? Very well. If demon beasts are roaming about, it’s a threat to the handyman disciples. I’ll go with you."

With that, he stood up and followed Nan Xing toward the back of the mountain.

"Senior Disciple Brother." At that moment, Nan Xing nodded at Zhao Hu, who was approaching.

"This is my senior disciple brother. We took on this task together. Your job is to guide us." Nan Xing said slowly.

Ye Lin nodded on the surface but sneered inwardly.

Quite the performance they were putting on.

Without another word, Ye Lin took the lead, walking ahead while Nan Xing and Zhao Hu followed closely behind. Under the cover of night, the three made their way toward the back of the mountain.

Nan Xing’s reasoning was sound—if demon beasts had been appearing frequently, investigating at night made perfect sense.

But as they arrived, the calm expressions of Nan Xing and Zhao Hu shifted.

"Attack!"

Nan Xing’s face twisted with ferocity as he lunged forward, throwing a powerful punch toward Ye Lin’s back.

If it landed, it could cripple him.

Yet, as if anticipating the ambush, Ye Lin pivoted smoothly, catching Nan Xing’s fist while stepping back half a pace.

"5th layer Qi Refinement? Only as strong as me at the 5th layer."

Feeling reassured, Ye Lin wasted no time. He lifted his foot and drove a kick straight into Nan Xing’s chest.

Nan Xing flew backward like a kite with its string cut, crashing heavily onto the ground.

"What?! Damn it!" Zhao Hu’s eyes widened in shock.

Ye Lin had effortlessly intercepted Nan Xing’s full-force strike—a feat even Zhao Hu himself couldn’t manage.

And for Ye Lin to send a 5th layer Qi Refinement stage cultivator flying with a single kick, could he have already reached the 6th layer?

The thought sent a chill down Zhao Hu’s spine.

"You’ve been hiding your cultivation? You’re more cunning than I thought."

Even as he spoke, Zhao Hu took several steps back, his right hand subtly reaching for the dagger concealed behind his back as he inched toward Nan Xing.

"We have no deep grudges. Why don’t we let bygones be bygones?"

Ye Lin sneered, drawing his sword with a cold gleam in his eyes, "Let bygones be bygones? Do you really think that’s possible?"

Without hesitation, Ye Lin activated his sword technique, sending a sharp ray of sword qi slashing toward Nan Xing, who lay helpless on the ground.

Zhao Hu, however, paid no mind to Nan Xing. Displaying a strange movement technique, he swiftly closed the distance between himself and Ye Lin. In one fluid motion, he pulled a dagger from behind his back and drove it toward Ye Lin’s chest.

But Ye Lin was ready. With a swift sidestep, he evaded the strike effortlessly.

Zhao Hu's eyes narrowed as he quickly retreated, putting some distance between them. He had used a low-grade basic-tier movement technique, yet Ye Lin had dodged his attack as if it were nothing.

"What exactly is your cultivation base?" His gaze flickered toward Nan Xing’s lifeless corpse before asking Ye Lin.

Ye Lin didn’t bother answering. Instead, his sword gleamed coldly as he swung it down.

"Die! Life Sword!"

"Damn it! You’ve forced my hand!"

Zhao Hu’s expression twisted with desperation. Channeling every ounce of his spirit qi, he prepared to risk it all in a final attack.

But in the blink of an eye, Ye Lin’s sword pierced straight through his heart.

Zhao Hu’s eyes widened in shock before his body slumped to the ground—dead.

Ye Lin was at the 6th layer Qi Refinement stage, while Zhao Hu had only reached the 5th layer. Even with the support of martial skills, Zhao Hu hadn’t stood a chance—he couldn’t even mount a last stand.

With the two dealt with, Ye Lin turned his gaze toward the distance.

"No way!"

Hidden in the grass, Dong Feng, who had been secretly observing the entire scene, gasped in horror the moment Ye Lin’s sharp eyes locked onto him.

"Did he just… spot me?!"

Panic surged through Dong Feng. Zhao Hu and Nan Xing had both been as strong as he was, yet Ye Lin had cut them down effortlessly. A chill ran down his spine.

Then, in the next instant—

Every hair on Dong Feng’s body stood on end. He saw Ye Lin charging straight at him. Without a second thought, he sprang to his feet and dashed toward the sect.

But how could he possibly outrun Ye Lin?

In mere moments, cold steel pressed against his throat.

"Senior… Senior Disciple Brother Ye… good evening." He froze in place, forcing an awkward smile, his eyes locked onto Ye Lin.

"I swear, I was just out here watching the moon! I didn’t see anything! Definitely didn’t see you, Senior Disciple Brother Ye!"

Seeing Ye Lin’s indifferent expression, Dong Feng quickly added.
