I'll Still Love You Tomorrow Chapter 16: Enoki Mushroom

Lu Jingyan’s fingers trembled and her phone fell onto the floor.

All the blood drained from her face.

Her clenched fists trembled furiously, and even her breathing increased.

The phone that rarely left her hands suddenly became frightening.

She swallowed as if she was afraid and struggled for a long time before picking up the phone.

Her fingertips pressed the keypad unsteadily, the three simple words were keyed wrongly many times, “Who are you?”

The account owner didn’t reply, probably already offline.

Lu Jingyan read the words on the screen, feeling increasingly suffocated.

Auntie Sun wasn’t home at this hour, and Lu Hongcheng was rarely home at night, she was the only one in the entire building.

She was afraid.

She wanted someone to accompany her.

Regardless of who it was.

Lu Jingyan hastily got up, she didn’t even change out of her clothes as she rushed out.

Lu Jingyan ran out of the neighborhood towards the plaza that had the brightest lights.

Even though it was cold, there were many people in the plaza.

Lu Jingyan looked at the many unfamiliar faces and slowly calmed down.

Lu Jingyan didn’t enter the mall as it was about to close, she turned one round and headed for a supermarket by the side.

She wasn’t in the mood to shop and headed straight for the alcohol and cigarette section, she took a few boxes of cigarettes and cans of beer, paid for it and left.

She sat on a random chair in the plaza, opened the beer can and downed most of it in one gulp.

The mall was closed.

There were fewer and fewer people in the plaza.

Lu Jingyan watched the lights in the mall go off one after another but she didn’t leave.

Sheng Xian didn’t drive as he drank tonight.

The road the cab was taking seemed familiar, and when he saw the name of the neighborhood, he realized he was here the night before.

Further front and they would reach the mall. When they reached a red light, he swept a glance outside the window.

He saw her.

She was wearing her pajamas, her hair was tied up in a messy bun and she was wearing a pair of bedroom slippers as she sat on a wooden chair. Her head was tilted skywards as she blew smoke rings.

In the short span that he saw her, she had gulped down a mouthful of beer with one hand.

She was a delinquent.

The sort that caused worry.

He has never seen a girl like her, dressed sloppily, sitting by the road side with beer and a cigarette.

Sheng Xian straightened, “I’ll stop here.”

As he was still far from his location, the cab driver asked, “You’re stopping here?”

“Mmh.” He replied emotionlessly, reaching for his wallet to pay the cab fare.

Once the cab had left, he headed towards the opposite direction.

He was still at the crosswalk when a group of men walked out from the mall’s Haidilao.

There weren't many people in the plaza but as a female, she stood up and immediately attracted the attention of those men.

The men were dressed in flamboyant style clothes and didn’t seem like ordinary people.

It shouldn’t matter if they took extra glances at her but it did. When she saw them peeking at her, she stared back.

There wasn’t all. When the group passed her, she bit down on her cigarette and cursed, “What are you looking at?!”

Great.

She cursed fiercely.

Sheng Xian sighed and sped up.

“F*ck, what’s wrong with looking a few more times?”

“What’s wrong? Is your face so expensive we can’t even look?”

“I don’t just want to look, I want to touch you as well. Hey, little sister, aren’t you lonely, do you want us to accompany you?”

The group of men seemed to have drunk a lot, they were swaying and their words weren’t the kindest.

The group of men were just talking, they didn’t really mean it.

It would have been fine if the little elementary school student remained silent.

Even though she was alone, she remained fierce, it was as though she outnumbered them. She tossed the beer can at them, “Do you think you can defeat me…”

She sized them up and her gaze swept past their thighs, “...enoki mushroom?”

Sheng Xian, "..."

The few men, "..."

The plaza fell silent.

So silent it felt strange.

The culprit tapped her cigarette, “Why? Is the enoki mushroom an overestimation?”

“Then I’m sorry, I’m afraid of needles.”

Sheng Xian shut his eyes and sighed deeply.

After three seconds, the group of men went crazy.

They started cursing, one of them couldn't resist it any longer and rushed towards Lu Jingyan.

Lu Jingyan continued to smoke calmly as she watched the furious men. She smirked.

She was very calm.

She was so calm she seemed like an emotionless puppet.

It seemed as though she wasn’t in any danger.

Just as the man was about a meter away, she extinguished her cigarette calmly.

She flicked her wrist and was just about to stand when someone stood in front of her, blocking the rushing man.

Lu Jingyan stilled, her gaze sliding up the long legs. When she saw the familiar back, her mouth flew open.

She was originally upset.

She was so upset she wanted to fight someone.

But now, there wasn’t any need for that.

Lu Jingyan laughed, she fell back onto the chair and shut her eyes.

The group of men were paper tigers.

Sheng Xian didn’t do much, but they threatened him and left.

Sheng Xian glanced down at the sleeping Lu Jingyan, he threw the cigarette buds and beer cans in the bin nearby and carried her.

She lived a distance away but Sheng Xian didn’t call a cab, he walked for about 10 mins and reached her home.

He pressed the doorbell and soon, someone opened the door.

It was a middle aged woman, when she saw that he was carrying Lu Jingyan, she hurriedly moved aside, “What happened to Miss Lu?”

“She’s drunk.” He replied, “Where’s her room?”

Auntie Sun led him upstairs, “This is her room. I’ll get her some honey water, thank you so much for bringing her back.”

Sheng Xian nodded silently, he kicked open the door, walked in and placed her on the bed.

He pulled the covers, placed it over her and prepared to leave.

Before he could turn, she grabbed his sleeve, “Brother, I told you I’ll bring you home next time.”
