Chapter 673: When the Rain Continues
Black Fortress Guo Da heard this and responded. “I found who you’re looking for!”
Long Di heard this and his footsteps paused, as did everyone else.
“Come again?”
****
When Black Fortress Guo Da saw that he had Long Di’s attention, some of his confidence returned.
“You say you know who I’m looking for? Where is she?”
“She?” confusion flittered across Black Fortress Guo Da’s face.
Long Di heard that, and immediately his curiosity waned.
Black Fortress Guo Da saw this and hurriedly said, “If it’s Heavenly Sun Noble you’re looking for, she will be there soon!”
“There? What are you talking about?” asked Long Di.
“Weren’t you looking for Heavenly Sun Noble?”
“No.”
“Then who are you looking for?”
“I don’t know you well enough to give you that information.”
“Then… can you tell me where you’re going?”
“I still don’t know you well enough to give you that information.”
“You’re not scared right!? It’s not like there’s anyone in this relic who can match you!”
Long Di looked at him for a hot minute before he responded. “I can smell a scheme from you. My cultivation trope senses are tingling. Tell you what, I’m heading to wherever the core of this place is. Do with that information what you will. However, let me tell you this… choose wisely.”
After leaving these cryptic words behind, Long Di went on his way. Hearing this, Black Fortress quickly went back to the direction from where he came.
The former didn’t pay attention to this and headed to the upstairs section of the foyer-like area.
Two winding staircases led there, and they took one of them.
“That was weird,” commented Xiannu Liang, who was now back on her own two feet once again.
Qin Ling saw this and felt slightly envious of her. Though Xiannu Liang was nowhere near her peak, just being able to walk under her own power so soon after using attacks that effectively bottomed out her spiritual qi was something worthy of praise.
“It’s beyond weird, it’s sus,” Long Di told her. “It’s something connected to the matter that unsettled Firecracker and Shai Bing, I’m 80%sure of it.”
When Qin Ling heard this, her eyes widened slightly, and she nearly slapped herself on the forehead. “I can’t believe I forgot to tell you!”
Long Di saw her, and enlightenment soon dawned. “Oh yeah, you know what’s happening… or at least have an idea, don’t you?”
“Yes! You’re in a lot of danger!” Qin Ling couldn’t believe she forgot to bring this up. It was just that many of the things that Long Di did or what she saw were all so new and exciting to her that this matter temporarily left her.
After all, he rewired her cultivation technique in such a way that her emotions came back in a flood. The stimulation of it all, overwhelmed her, causing her not to mention things that needed mentioning!
‘Long Di, listen… there’s a higher realm beyond this place. A realm beyond the Eastern Wasteland, the Northern Lin Territory, the Southern Belt, the Western Land, and everything in between. I wasn’t told its name, but it exists. THAT is where this intention to kill you hails from.’ She chose to communicate with him via spiritual transmission. They were still many people all around them and it wasn’t convenient for specific information to be released carelessly.
“Why?” He asked her.
‘All I know is that you are a calamity. Something that places this whole world in danger. You are to be executed at the outset, and I have no doubt that should you step foot in that place, you will be hunted down like a dog until you are destroyed.’
“Ominous.”
‘I’m serious!’ She had half a mind to throttle him here and now. Why didn’t he take this seriously!?
“So am I. I just express it differently,” he told her. “Wherever that place is, I will have to go there, eventually. Is it another world?”
Qin Ling was caught off guard by that question and blinked several times before she answered. “I… I don’t think so. Another world? What do you mean by that?”
“Nothing,” Long Di responded before saying to himself. “Looks like we’re nowhere near that arc yet.”
Before long, they finally arrived upstairs and just like downstairs, they saw many people though it was to a lesser extent.
Another difference was that people weren’t just charging in and out of the entrances here. Instead, many were simply standing before them, seemingly contemplating which to tackle first.
Long Di stared closely at these entranceways. They were called pathways, but in truth, they were doorways filled with a strange spatial energy that Long Di reckoned took people where they needed to. So they were entrances to different locations in this castle-like place.
However, the ones up here were clearly of a different calibre. At the same time, they realised why not everyone was heading for these upper pathways.
Just like the ones below, barriers of some kind blocked off these pathways. There were also people crazily attacking these barriers to get through.
Nevertheless, the barriers that sealed these pathways were at a different level than the ones downstairs.
Indelible, incomprehensible engravings lined these entrances. They started out relatively simple at both ends but got progressively complex the closer to the middle they got. Their size increased as well.
Speaking of the middle, there was a giant golden door there with several keyholes lining its centre from top to bottom.
This was the only one that sported a door, but based on the keyholes and the lack of a barrier, Long Di was sure this door wouldn’t budge unless all of those keyholes were filled.
Apart from that, some of the other entrances were broken through, leaving the portals open, though people stared at one in particular with profoundly disturbed expressions.
“So, how are we doing this?” Long Di asked them.
“What do you mean?” Everyone asked him at the same time.
Long Di pointed at the empty keyholes lining the golden door. “Something tells me the only way to open that door is by collecting the keys. It also dawned on me that the number of pathways up here matches the number of keyholes lining that door. Now, I have no idea why a dead person’s place is so meticulously designed, but I’m not complaining. What I want us to do is to split up so we can cover more ground easily.”
“Is that safe?” Qin Ling asked in a concerning tone. She wasn’t worried about Long Di or herself, she was worried about the others.
“As long as we use our top players effectively, it should be a cinch.” Long Di told her. “Xiannu Liang will go with you and Jiancheng Shu will go with me.”
Qin Ling thought about it for a while before nodding in acceptance, “That makes sense, I guess.”
When Jiancheng Shu heard this, he jumped up before protesting, “That’s not fair, I wanna travel with Lord Pebbles The Wonder… wait… where’s Lord Pebbles!?”
Long Di looked at him disinterestedly before responding, “I’m surprised you just realised that he’s gone.”
“Did you not keep track of where they went?” Xiannu Liang asked him. “What if they get in trouble?”
“Oh really, how much trouble can they get into in such a short amount of time?” Qin Ling asked her.
When Long Di heard this, he looked at Qin Ling. “Do you realise what you’ve done?”
She looked at him in bewilderment. “What are you talking—?”
Bang!
Right on cue, a loud sound stole their attention, and they looked over to see two figures emerging from one of the opened entrances. It was the one where the people standing before it wore disturbed expressions.
When everyone saw who it was, Long Di turned to Qin Ling and said without shame. “I blame all of this on you.”
“Aaah!” A blood-curdling scream erupted as Mina ran out of one of the entrances with a golden key beating the ever-living shit out of Pebbles who was still mauling the stuffing out of her head, hair and face with extreme prejudice!
Everyone watched the proceedings completely dumbstruck. What the hell was going on here!?
Pebbles brandished his claws, roaring, “I shall continue to inflict upon you this fate, that is worse than death!”
“Screw you! I call you Pebbles The Stinking Cat!” Mina cursed him.
“Suffer!” hissed Pebbles.
Mina ran around crazily before she collided with another barrier, breaking it and disappearing inside.
The scene outside then descended into silence.
Everyone, and I mean everyone had so many questions. Yet no one, and I mean no one knew how to ask them.
“Are we gonna talk about th–”
“Master Pebbles The Wondercat!” Before Qin Ling could ask a question Long Di was sure no one here was qualified to answer, Jiancheng Shu ran after what could only be described as a baby momma who applied to be a failed sugar baby and a sugar daddy who was a better sugar baby.
Before long, he disappeared into the same portal, causing silence to descend once more.
Long Di simply put his hands behind him and calmly walked to one of the other entrances.
He then looked back at the stricken speechless Qin Ling and Xiannu Liang who had developed some level of immunity to this madness and said. “Liang’er be a dear and take Qin Ling with you to explore one of the other entranceways. Past evidence in the form of a tailed purple demon leaves me to believe that it will take too long for her brain to reboot.”
