With the knowledge that cultivators have the naming sense of a fourteen-year-old who has embraced their edge lord heritage, who wants to bet that that’s the Starry Thunder Black Meteorite?

****

“That is Starry Thunder Black Meteorite!” Jiancheng Shu rushed over to it as soon as he saw it, only for it to electrocute him, sending him and his flapping loincloth flying.

Oh, I forgot to mention, this madman is still wearing a loincloth. Why is he wearing a loincloth?

“Long Di, how did you know it was the Starry Thunder Black Meteorite you needed?” Qin Ling asked me.

“I’m gonna pretend you didn’t ask me that.”

I refuse to comment on my knowledge and the brazen bluntness of that material living up to its namesake in every conceivable dimension, and the audacity of another living being actually asking me how I knew what it was.

Do you know what would have thrown me off? If it was called Not Starry UnThunder White Earth Pebble.

“If it electrocutes people, how can we collect it?” asked Xiannu Liang.

Qin Ling quickly entered her exposition mode, explaining, “The Starry Thunder Black Meteorite is a special metal that originated outside of the continent. Due to floating in the starry heavens, over time, it absorbs this aura, becoming something called Starry Black Rock. It said that some may pass through something called a thunder field, thus gaining the properties of thunder before falling to the continent. This is all through chance after all, which is why it’s so rare. It needs a special collection method, we’ll have to…”

So I left Qin Ling to explain the special collection method to everyone else while I decided to advance further on the path of masochism.

The Starry Thunder Black Meteorite flickered with lightning and I could tell at a glance why Jiancheng Shu wanted it for that thing’s creation. He really was a genius now that I think about it.

“Again!” Jiancheng Shu ran over once more and lunged at the Starry Thunder Black Meteorite before it shocked him with enough force that I saw the legendary darker parts of his ass while his loincloth flapped even harder in the wind.

… Maybe genius is too strong a word.

I placed a hand on it and the lightning became even more animated as if it wished to shock me.

However, my somatic essence had elements of divine lightning mixed within. How could this mere Starry Thunder Black Meteorite harm me?

“I’m never gonna let you guys live down the fact that ya’ll are STILL calling lightning thunder. You people are supposed to be cocaine-powered philosophers deciphering the secrets of the universe by decrypting the profundity of martial arts moves, AKA throwing hands with the strength progression rivalling that of DB to DBZ. How are you not aware that these are two different things? Where’s the anime/manga/manhua/manhwa/light novel naming committee located in this world? From Kaido shouting Thunder Bagua to every cultivation novel referencing lightning as the ‘thunder element’ you people are mental.”

Everyone stopped what they were doing for a moment and looked at me after the diatribe I threw their way.

“Feel better?” Pebbles asked with a smile.

“It’s killing you inside too isn’t it?” I asked him.

“Yes, but I’m a cat. I’m built to watch the world burn.”

I’m glad Pebbles is out here telling the world what cats really think about. And yet, people let these guys into their homes. Truly, mankind has gone far on the Dao path of masochism.

Putting that to the back of my mind, I focused my attention back on the Starry… Thunder… Black Meteorite.

Jiancheng Shu probably wanted this due to its lightning affinity. It makes sense because if we end up creating what we want to create, it will be so freaking awesome.

I gripped a corner of the Starry Thunder Black Meteorite and proceeded to lift. Veins popped up on my arms and my jaw tightened, slowly the Starry (I refuse to validate that word’s existence) Black Meteorite left the ground and as soon as it did, it vanished as it went into my storage ring.

Apparently, there was this caveat to using storage rings. The thing I wished to put in there had to be off the ground in some way. If not, the storage ring wouldn’t differentiate between the object you wanted to store and whatever it happened to be in contact with at the time.

I guess that makes a little sense, or as far as sense goes with cultivation novels in general.

As soon as I was finished with this, I turned to everyone else. “Let’s go, everyone. We’re not going to be alone for much longer. We need to get as much as we can before we move on to find Shen Ling.”

We rushed out of the room and saw the vague outline of what appeared to be a stampede heading our way from both directions.

We made a beeline for another room without hesitation.

“We just need over a decent lump of Arc Crimson Obsidian and I can get to work on building that thing for you!” Jiancheng Shu said with a borderline manic look in his eyes. I had no idea how I came to see that because this guy’s eyes were, once again, ruby-like in appearance.

“Did you not hear what I said?” Qin Ling said, slightly annoyed. “Those materials are extremely rare. It was dumb luck that we ran into that Starry Thunder Black Meteorite. Arc Crimson Obsidian is in the same vein of rarity as the latter. It’s a special stone found only in places with extremely powerful flame energy and by extension flame poison. Once their concentration reaches a certain point, they are forcefully injected into the rocks that have been under pressure for millions, maybe billions of years. The pressure is necessary for the tenacity of the rock to reach the necessary level. If not, the flame energy will destroy it. The pressure is the issue as it makes even city-sized rock formations shrink down to the size of a thumb. For a decent lump, as you put it, that rock would have to have been as big as a literal mountain range before it shrunk down to the level necessary to house that energy! ”

“Wouldn’t it be a boulder at that stage?” Pebbles over here asking the real questions. Man, they must have stuffed books in her head over at Ice Phoenix Hall.

“You know, just because you said all that has basically confirmed that we’ll find the Arc Crimson Obsidian in that room,” I told her.

“We won’t!” She didn’t believe me.

I was on guard this time, and then I opened the door.

Nothing happened.

So I stepped inside.

Something happened.

Whoosh!

Fire, fire from hell itself descended upon me with all the fury of my Uncle and with none of the mercy.

I lied, none of those things had mercy.

I simply walked through it cuz Uncle Tian Lu’s forge (I have the worst track record with Uncles now that I think about it) prepared me for this very moment.

Jiancheng Shu followed me in, which meant that Pebbles was right there with us. I’m blaming his ability to tank fire attacks on his Ren’duan heritage. No one can tell me anything.

As soon as we got past the fire shower thing. Both our eyes locked on the item in the middle of the room.

We looked at it… then at each other… back on it… back at each, before we settled on it.

Just then, a tri-chorus sentence filled the room.

“Do you wanna tell her?”
