Chapter 673: When the Rain Continues
When Long Di saw him, he lethargically nodded in return.
“Hello, Yang Fuyou. I have a business proposal.”
****
Long Di was in one of Qian Dao Sect’s many auction houses spread across the continent.
He had everyone else head somewhere for some R&R while he took care of business here. Whether they wanted to cultivate or just relax was up to them.
He knew there had to be an auction house here. Whether it was a temporary one for the relic because a town like this couldn’t truly grab their attention or otherwise didn’t matter to him. What mattered was that there was one here now.
As long as there’s an opportunity to make money, these guys would be around. He banked on that, and he was right.
After asking around, it wasn’t long before he found it. The first thing he did upon arriving at the auction house was present the medallion he received from Yang Fuyou.
He was immediately guided into a waiting room by an attendant and not fifteen minutes later, Yang Fuyou ran into the room with an honest-to-goodness smile on his face.
It became even more pronounced when he heard Long Di’s words. However, he quickly calmed himself and took a seat opposite Long Di.
He surveyed Long Di and his posture in the chair and was impressed by the former’s suave demeanour.
“I must thank you, Brother Long Di, your teachings have granted me a high position in the sect. I now have more power and authority under my belt!”
Long Di grew confused at this. “Teachings? When did I teach you anything?”
“The handshake!” Yang Fuyou nearly jumped out of his chair. “It has become a staple among businessmen everywhere! Oh, the simplistic yet complex nature of it! It’s like it’s its own Dao!”
“Hooowww??” Long Di wasn’t expecting this. What were Daos nowadays? Chicken feed and dog food!?
“What do you mean how!?” Yang Fuyou didn’t know if Long Di was joking or not. “Long Di, it revolutionised the field! Our Dao path has never been clearer!”
“Again, how??” Long Di couldn’t comprehend how a single gesture of his changed an entire Dao structure.
Yang Fuyou wanted to explain his own interpretation of this divine gesture. “Well, touching someone is something that can only be done whether you want to kill them or get their attention because you already know them, right?”
“The mere fact that touching alone lives in the realm of these two extremes is a bigger problem that I feel not enough people are talking about,” said Long Di while cocking his head to the side.
“Let’s not talk about that!”
“I feel like it should be talked about.” Long Di knew these people’s priorities were messed up, he just didn’t think it was to this extent!
“As I was saying–”
“You don’t even care,” Long Di had neither the energy nor the intention to care beyond this point.
“The handshake is truly profound,” Yang Fuyou went on, completely unaware of anything else. “We don’t touch others easily, so for us to do this on the basis of business and trust in striking a deal speaks volumes! You’re risking your well-being in some form or some extent to put your hand out there. We cup our fists but it doesn’t come close to this! In this way, would you turn your back on someone you’ve shared that intimacy with?”
Long Di looked at him with great concern before saying. “You’re the kind of guy who goes on the internet to pixelate hand-holding pictures and videos, aren’t you?”
“By the way, Brother Di, how did you know you’d find me here specifically?” Yang Fuyou asked with a mysterious smile.
“I didn’t think you’d be here,” Long Di admitted. “That’s why I asked for you.”
Yang Fuyou’s smile disappeared. “Y-You know about it?”
“Stop making it sound so mysterious,” Long Di waved it off. “It’s probably a transportation formation somewhere in the depths of the auction house.”
“B-Brother Long Di, surely you can’t expect me to simply overlook the fact that you know about the inner workings and structural layout of our auction houses, do you?” Yang Fuyou had no idea how Long Di could come across this knowledge.
“I just guessed it. Anyway, take a look at this.” Long Di took out a brocade box and placed it on the table.
Yang Fuyou saw this, but he didn’t do anything outside of looking back at Long Di.
“Consider this the start of your investment. I would like some help from you, if you wouldn’t mind.”
When Yang Fuyou heard this, his curiosity was piqued to the point that he even forgot about Long Di knowing about the auction house’s transportation formation.
He opened the box and immediately, extremely dense darkness-attributed spiritual energy assaulted him.
Yang Fuyou saw his skin wrinkling before his flesh dried up followed by his bones which crumbled into dust!
Suddenly, the scene cleared up as if what happened a while ago was an illusion.
“Good stuff!”
Instead of being terrified, an expression of joy was on his face.
“This is a Light Shroud Evil Durian!? Incredible! Its darkness-attributed spiritual energy is especially rich in death qi! Brother Long Di, where did you get this!?”
That’s right. What Long Di just gave Yang Fuyou was one of the Light Shroud Evil Durian from within his physique. He had activated it to take it out before he got here, and procured a special box able to handle its particular aura.
“Death qi?” Long Di was familiar with this term as would anyone else who read cultivation novels but he didn’t consider this when he inspected his physique the last time.
So instead of calling it death energy as he did, it was more accurate to call it death qi? Or were they one and the same?
But was that right?
After all, spiritual energy only becomes spiritual qi when it enters a person’s body for cultivation. Was this the same for death energy or death qi? Did that mean this fruit was cultivating it as well?
‘Well, that would explain why some spiritual herbs are able to gain sentience out of nowhere. Man, cultivation worlds are like Pet Cemetery dialled to a 100 or something,’ thought Long Di to himself.
“So this death qi,” Long Di wanted to learn a little bit more. “You said this darkness-attributed spiritual energy had a lot of it. Does that mean it can contain more of a from the darkness-attributed spiritual energy spectrum?”
“Of course,” answered Yang Fuyou. “Death qi, evil qi and even the dark qi that makes up the nature of those clothes you’re wearing…”
Long Di raised a brow when he saw that Yang Fuyou saw through the material his robes were made of, but he didn’t say anything against it.
He then went on. “Those types of qi are all under the darkness-attributed spiritual energy umbrella, and that’s not even all of them. This spiritual energy can be made up of one or more types of energy, depending on how you cultivate it. This one, if nothing else, is especially rich in death qi. Its value is something I can’t even begin to imagine!”
“Hmmm, good to hear,” Seems like Long Di’s bet on using this thing was as good an idea as he thought.
“Brother Long Di, what could you possibly be asking for in return?” Yang Fuyou asked. All playfulness was gone, his mien was that of a businessman.
“Several things,” Long Di put up several fingers. “I need information on the Peach Blossom Sage and/or Peach Blossom Venerate, just the details or record of his life along with his lover is okay. As much as you can get by the way. I also want info on the Nine Yin Cemetery Sect. Lastly, and this is another sect I need information on. Also…”
When Long Di told Yang Fuyou the details of the last sect he wanted information on, and something else that came to mind, he leaned back in his seat, effectively putting the ball back in Yang Fuyou’s court.
Yang Fuyou’s face was stern as he chewed on what Long Di told him to get information on.
“We do have information brokers…” he said after a while. “But they are more or less for current events. What you are asking for is information on the past. Sure, we have archives, but most, if not all of what you are asking for is taboo information. Brother Long Di, if anyone were to find out you were digging up such information, you may find yourself visited by things you ought not to be visited by.”
Though Yang Fuyou worded it in such a way, it was obviously a warning for him to be careful.
“I understand, but I need this information and I need your discretion,” Long Di stated.
“Of course,” Yang Fuyou sighed and nodded as he acquiesced to Long Di’s request.
“For the last thing I requested…” Long Di didn’t finish and only looked at Yang Fuyou.
“It’ll only be discussed when absolutely necessary,” Yang Fuyou promised. “After all, your safety benefits me.”
“Great. These can be considered extra then,” Long Di then waved his hand and immediately five more brocade boxes appeared on the table, causing Yang Fuyou’s eyes to nearly pop out of his sockets.
“Oh yeah, I’ll need you to send a message and some stuff to the Demon Region’s Jia Yan if you could. I’m also gonna need a map to Emerald Forest and a full metal alche—I-I mean an alchemist teacher. The map I need now, the alchemist teacher I’d like delivered to Sabre Mountain in about a month’s time. That’d be greeeaaat.”
