Of course, Long Di couldn’t care less about her thoughts at the moment, since something disturbing was laid bare before him. His unfeeling voice caused her to shudder.

“Who did this to you?”

****

If there is one thing I don’t like, it’s when someone ruins a good work.

So here I am looking through my spiritual force to get a better understanding of Qin Ling’s inner world and the nature of her cultivation technique, only to see this fustercluck.

Wait, let’s go back a little bit. As far as I’m concerned, Qin Ling’s cultivation technique is a skeleton. It was superficial at best, though created solely for her. This is why it operated as well as it did even at her current cultivation realm though it was nearing the end of its usefulness as is.

There were no inner organs, no lifeblood, no flesh, and no skin. It was a shallow thing I created when I was young but it allowed me to grasp the foundation needed for cultivation technique creation.

I could see her spiritual qi travelling through her meridians in the most basic manner. I even saw as I made the rookie mistake of not utilising all her main opened meridians back when I was reworking it for her.

However, it wasn’t this that drew from me my earlier question; it was a string of strange symbols that wound around her heart. It physically wrapped around it whilst also wrapping around an ethereal, ghostly manifestation of her heart.

It injected some sort of dark, cold energy into both the physical and ethereal manifestation of her heart.

As her heart pumped, blood mixed with this strange energy ran through her veins whilst the ethereal one continuously pumped another peculiar type of energy into somewhere that eluded my gaze.

Suddenly, the string of symbols trembled, causing the ethereal and physical heart to recover for only a moment.

Schwing!

The ringing of a sword leaving its sheath rang out, and I felt cold steel upon the skin of my neck.

Why did this always happen?

This wasn’t the first and something tells me this won’t be the last time something like this happens.

“Yes?”

Qin Ling didn’t say anything but maybe me asking that will push her to disclose why she had a sword to my neck.

Personally, not Waifu #3 material but I’ll leave that to Pebbles to decide. Then again, I should tell him that I may or may not have embarked on the Dao of Sadomasochism.

The sword was pretty cold, though. It drew blood but the blood that spilled immediately froze.

Why was it so cold? It felt about as uncomfortable as sitting butt-ass naked on a steel chair in A/C.

“W-What do you think you’re doing?” Qin Ling asked. I could see the splash of colour that spread across her cheeks for the first time in a long time.

“Hello, Qin Ling.” That expression was the Qin Ling I knew from back then. Nostalgia hit me about as hard as the first season Pokemon theme song hitting a Millennial … okay nothing probably hits as hard as that, but you get the idea.

“Long Di? Long Di!”

Qin Ling leapt into my arms like a worthy Waifu #3. Xiannu Liang had her work cut out for her, not gon lie.

“Did they mess with your emotions?” Whatever this sudden outburst of emotion from her was at the moment was short-lived I just knew it. So I wanted to get down to business quick and fast.

Qin Ling’s body trembled, and she quickly backed away when she noticed what she was doing. The blush on her face was burning crimson right now. So she could be cute when she wanted.

Nice.

However, when she truly registered my question, an expression of fear covered her face. Whatever they did to her was not something she wanted it seems. She probably wanted to catch up, but decided against it for now.

“No,” she answered. “It’s something a bit worse.”

“Explain.”

She sat down criss-cross apple sauce (I don’t know why I like saying that but here we are) and calmed herself.

She suddenly trembled again, and I could see her visibly fighting something.

“It’s the Icy Heart Mantra,” she said out of nowhere.

“Getting right to it, huh? Continue.” I just love how being childhood friends is enough for her to divulge her sect’s secrets. Must not be a lot of good feelings there. Either that or this thing specifically doesn’t sit well with her.

“It’s touted as something meant to steady my Dao Heart and temper my emotions.”

‘Dao heart?’ Was that ethereal image of her heart, her Dao Heart? I never thought it was something that could actually be seen. Even in cultivations novels, I have never seen it before.

Well… that wasn’t quite true. The Giga Chad Mc of Mc’s, Li Qiye, could take that thing out and pop it right back in like a jacked-up mentally ill Pez dispenser.

“However, it doesn’t do that, it freezes them both.”

Her tone changed, and her temperament was quickly becoming frosty like before.

“What’s the difference?” I needed to get as much information as I could before she reverted to her insufferable self.

“One allows me to better control myself and continue on the Dao path despite the challenges I would face while the other forcibly stagnates and temporarily severs my emotional self while instilling in me a single-minded obsession towards the Ice Dao. I fear prolonged usage would completely sever my emotions turning me into… I don’t know what, but it wouldn’t be me.”

“Then stop cultivating the Ice Heart Mantra.”

She shook her head. “I can’t stop. It’s already gone deep into my soul and has intertwined itself to become a part of me. The only reason I can be myself right now is because the shock of what you did was quite… intense.”

“Yeah, I’ve been told I have that effect on people. Anyway, based on what you said about this thing, it seems like you’re not fond of it.”

“If I was, I wouldn’t tell you anything.”

I could see her previous self taking over again. I needed to move fast.

“Excuse me, then.”

Shu!

I pointed my index finger at her forehead once more to do what I did before.

Her expression didn’t fluctuate in the least. This meant that doing the same thing over and over again wouldn’t garner the same reaction.

Just as well, I didn’t do this to trigger her. I had to capture her true self and merge that essence into the cultivation technique itself.

You’d wonder how I would do something like that, but it’s not as hard as you’d think.

“So you did create the cultivation technique. It wasn’t something you found back when we were younger!”

“Qin Ling, I was a baby back then. What would I have found to pass on to you? My SCHIACCT? I wasn’t advanced enough to create that. I mean, I can do it now, but lemme tell ya, it took a LOT of work to get it. I mean I can give it to you but my SCHIACTT isn’t meant for everyone. You have to be worthy.”

“Then release me. I will simply use the cultivation technique from my sect to cultivate instead.”

“Ah, so you’re back to being a vexing Waifu #3. Quick question, can you bring the original Qin Ling back? I have to tell her something.”

“Dispel the dome, and remove your finger before I remove it for you,” she ordered coldly.

“That’s some fatherless behaviour right there. Fine. Quick question, would you consider calling me daddy for romantic reasons?”

Her body trembled as another bout of blush quickly covered her face.

“L-Long Di, what are you asking me to do!? M-My heart isn’t ready for this!”

“Steely, help a brother out.”

[Tch! I should have known you would have called on me!]

Vrrrm!
