Chapter 705: Killing People Openly
Zhong Ping's eyes stayed on her as she left.
“It’s been a long time,” he said to himself.
****
As soon as Xiannu Liang left the abode, she found many people waiting for her. She was suddenly very self-conscious about her identity as a Nymph and she felt an overwhelming need to pull over her cowl but she fought against it.
Regardless, she didn’t know any of these people. Why were they all waiting for her?
Violet Flame Noble and the others came up to greet her.
“Hmph! Junior sister Xiannu Liang, what did that stinky old man do to you? Do you want this Goddess to beat him up for you!?” Mina asked. She couldn’t see Xiannu Liang getting anything good from that hateful old man.
“I received a very nice, useful spiritual artefact,” Xiannu Liang replied under her breath. Seeing so many people look at her made her feel very nervous. If it was any other time, she would have taken it out for her friends to see, but something told her that if she took it out for them to see it now, it would be a problem.
Mina was about to ask her to take it out for them to see, but Violet Flame Noble saw the clues and told her to show it to them later.
No one knew it was him under the cowl, as he didn’t want to attract a large crowd while he was travelling with Shen Ling and the others.
Even when the others saw him travelling with Xiannu Liang and the others before this, they didn’t pay any attention to the others since the light of one of the Five Nobles was just that bright.
They quickly forgot whoever it was that was travelling with him before. It was just the way things were when one had as much fame as them.
Violet Flame Noble took them away from there, and eventually, they lost the crowd.
“Do you really have any need to fear those people?” Mina asked with her arms crossed while looking at Violet Flame Noble with a raised brow.
Violet Flame Noble shook his head. “I don’t fear them and quite frankly, taking off my cowl would have probably put them in place. But there would have been the added issue of dealing with a growing crowd. I don’t mean to brag, especially when you have someone like Brother Long Di travelling with you, however, people worship the strong. As one of the Five Nobles, I have confidence in my strength. Our fame is also widespread due to us being from the Ten Great Sects as well. It’s because of this why we’re as revered as we are.”
“I guess it would be annoying if a crowd of people were to be following us everywhere we went. Combine that with the boy and the ignorance of these people in the cultivation world and we’d have a death match on our hands every day and twice as much on the weekends,” Mina said while rubbing a non-existent beard.
“Meow!”
“Lord Whiskers concurs with that statement,” Pebbles murmured sleepily. He then opened one eye to stare at the Shidashi Mao. “I didn’t get the chance to say this, but your name is pretty high sounding ain’t it? Why put Lord in your name when all cats are Lords by default? You don’t see me calling myself Lord Pebbles The Wondercat, which, now that I hear it, sounds heavenly.”
“Meow!”
“So it was Long Di who gave you that name? I’m feeling a powerful urge to assume a title all of a sudden.”
“Just stick with the name you’re given you stupid cat!”
Surprisingly, Pebbles didn’t retaliate to Mina’s taunt. He simply lay atop Lord Whiskers’s and displayed a mischievous smile after a while.
Mina felt a chill when she saw this, “What!?”
“Have fun reading,” was all that Pebbles told her before he retreated unto himself.
Mina didn’t know why but she had a feeling that should she continue reading, she was gonna see something that she wasn’t supposed to see.
However, after putting it away, the feeling of withdrawal was coming hard and fast. She had no idea how long she was gonna last this time. It was even worse now because she had the manga on her person and Pebbles just held that same infuriating smile like he was mocking her.
Of course, Violet Flame Noble wasn’t aware of any of this. He simply continued the tour with everyone else while explaining to them how the Ren’duan Dwellings worked and a brief history of them as well.
All in all, this wasn’t a wasted trip as almost everyone reaped benefits. It wasn’t less than a day later when everyone gathered at the entrance of the Ren’duan Dwelling.
Violet Flame Noble was with the initial group when they saw Heavenly Sun Noble heading their way with a defeated expression.
He knew what that meant.
“No luck?” he asked her.
She shook her head and said nothing more.
“No Ren’duan wanted to help her?” Xiannu Liang asked, clearly puzzled.
Violet Flame Noble smiled upon hearing her question. “The Ren’duans are a fickle bunch. You should be aware of this based on Senior Zhong Ping alone.”
She recalled her experience with that Ren’duan and it almost brought back the headache it brought just to survive a conversation with the man.
“Simply having something that they are interested in sometimes isn’t enough,” he told her. “Their mood can change at the drop of a hat, thus ending up with you not getting one to work on whatever material you brought with you. Sometimes it works by being nice, other times you have to be as stubborn as a mule and there are even times when you have to physically fight them.”
“But I thought that hurting a Ren’duan would end up with you getting blacklisted?” Shen Ling brought up.
“True,” Violet Flame Noble nodded. “Yet, there are times when this is the only thing that a Ren’duan may respond to at that moment. If you are right, then you naturally won’t be blacklisted. It’s a gamble, really. But rather than doing something that carries such a great risk, many will just accept that today isn’t their lucky day and come back a next time or go to another Ren’duan Dwelling.”
Xiannu Liang and Shen Ling absorbed this little tidbit of information.
Before long, they saw Wei Yun and Qin Ling heading in their direction as well. Both their expressions were cold and unreadable not allowing the others to know whether they got through or not.
They didn’t join up with everyone else and simply stood a short distance from the others.
Shen Ling and the others grew a little concerned since at this point they were waiting for Long Di and yet he never arrived.
Just as they were feeling even more unease, their expressions lit up when they saw their apathetic, impassive comrade turn the corner with the Gatekeeper at his side.
He was currently engaged in conversation with the latter and didn’t even notice them waiting at the entrance for him.
Many people noticed the Gatekeeper and were surprised to see him enjoying whatever conversation he was having with Long Di.
“So I need to look out for something metallic in that sense?”
“There’s a lot of them so it’ll be like looking for a needle in a haystack.”
“Well, I’ll send word to the land of origin. That should minimise the area of search by a wide margin. Thanks a lot, Chin Giga Chaddy.”
“I wish you luck on your journey and fortune in your search Tiny Chad.”
As soon as the Gatekeeper arrived at the entrance, he saw the strange looks he got from everyone inside the Dwelling and outside it.
Chin Giga Chaddy?
Tiny Chad?
What were these terms?
Some profound blacksmithing jargon that went over their heads?
However, the Gatekeeper didn’t care for their looks. His stoic expression returned, and he took up his post at the entrance, thus releasing the other Ren’duan that stood guard there while he was gone.
As soon as Long Di got a handle on everyone’s accounts, he waved to the Gatekeeper and exited the Dwelling when out of nowhere–!
The Gatekeeper’s head snapped to Long Di in a flash. “Careful!”
Suddenly, Long Di’s cultivation technique blared wildly in his head!
‘Danger’
Krrsh!
Pu Ci!
Blood splattered as a head flew into the sky followed by a bloodcurdling scream!
“Aaaaaah!”
