Chapter 673: When the Rain Continues
Barring Wei Yun, Mina and Long Di, when everyone saw where Violet Flame Noble was pointing, their pupils shrank, before—in their minds—disappointment applied for a job as a live-in dorm mother and passed the interview with flying colours.
“You’ve got to be kidding.”
****
What came into view was something that didn’t seem to make much sense. There, losing in prestige and prominence was… a simple village?
It appeared old and worn. The houses, if you could call them that, were a strong wind away from collapsing in on themselves.
It didn’t even look like they could protect against the rain. The planks that made up the buildings were all rotting, and the roofs were simple rusted zinc that saw no maintenance.
These buildings were only a level above the housing that the mortals lived in back in Cang Bian City.
Yet, it was at the entrance to this place that a veritable sea of cultivators were all crowded around.
They were treating this place as if it was some kind of heavenly treasure that they had to get no matter what. Either that or a Black Friday store just minutes away from opening.
There were young experts, old elders, Sect Masters, teachers and powerful existences that could shake the world.
“That’s the Ren'duan Dwelling!?” Mina couldn’t believe it. This was a little too disappointing, wasn’t it?
Shen Ling and the others were shocked that they didn’t even notice this village beforehand, especially with so many people present as well. The grandeur of the forge was so strong that it completely overshadowed the tiny village in every single way.
Their cheeks suddenly burned when they realised that they were probably gawking like some kids who’d never seen the world before.
“Don’t worry,” Violet Flame Noble smiled upon seeing this. “More or less everyone else reacts roughly the same way on the first visit. But this is the Ren'duan Dwelling, and it’s better if you remain humble. Let’s go, I have some experience in… where’s brother Long Di?”
Violet Flame Noble looked around in confusion when he saw that Long Di wasn’t with everyone else.
Wei Yun wore a strange expression as she pointed in a particular direction where Long Di could be seen walking absent-mindedly towards the mammoth forge.
Immediately, Violet Flame Noble’s heart leapt into his throat.
“B-Brother Long Di! Stop! You can’t go there! The Ren'duans don’t allow anyone near their–”
Boom!
A powerful pressure exploded from the forge that crashed down on Long Di!
The ground around him blew apart before cracks crept from the epicentral Long Di without reserve!
Immediately, a furore erupted from the crowd.
“What an idiot!”
“Which fool is this!?”
“Hahaha! After being here for two months, there’s finally a good show to watch!”
The sea of cultivators expressed schadenfreude at seeing Long Di in trouble. Many people were here for a long time without getting through, so seeing something like this was a good way to stave off the boredom.
It was a widely known fact that the Ren'duans were not existences that just anyone could afford to offend.
They were responsible for creating some of the most, if not the most powerful spiritual artefacts on the continent.
Yet at the same time, they were known to be extremely eccentric and temperamental. All of them had quirks about them that made them very hard to work or deal with.
It was so bad that they were stormed by numerous powers and sects in the past. Despite this, they were able to not only weather such storms but also exact disastrous losses to the offending party for good measure.
There were even times when existences possessing the power to wipe out the entire village made a move to do so but stopped short of it several times. Not only that, but they were also forced to flee for some unknown reasons.
People thought that these existences didn’t want to destroy the Ren'duan Dwellings since the blacksmithing world would suffer too greatly. These existences never came out to address these concerns, so most people ran with this reason.
However, a shock ran through the continent when every Ren'duan Dwelling announced that these very same existences were blacklisted from even trying to enter Ren'duan Dwellings in the future. The same went for their descendants as well.
Most people thought this would incur a war or a reprisal of some sort, but were surprised when these influential figures didn’t dare to speak a word of retaliation.
This led to an adage to form saying, ‘With the Ren'duans, forged weapons will dominate the earth while forged feelings will overturn the heavens.’
This simply meant that while their weapons were powerful enough for one to walk unhindered in the world, their grudges were even more dangerous and should be watched carefully.
This point could be seen from how the pressure that Long Di was facing continuously compounded.
Many powerful experts’ hearts trembled from the coercion of the pressure he was under. They were on the periphery of this and yet even they felt moved by the power the forge radiated. They couldn’t even begin to imagine what kind of suppression Long Di was facing.
Long Di himself was shaken out of the stupor he was in and immediately came to realise the kind of situation he was in.
He wasn’t sure what happened himself. One minute he was listening to Violet Flame Noble, and by the time he looked at the monstrous city-sized forge, he found himself inexplicably drawn to it.
That’s right. The giant forge!
It was the cause of all this.
He looked at it once more and found something unsettling.
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
The ground furiously shook several times and Long Di looked over to where the cultivators were waiting and saw a figure walking over to where he was.
This was a curious creature that Long Di had never seen before. It was humanoid for sure, but it stood at an impressive height at a little over two Long Di’s.
Its sable skin mirrored the blackest night. Staring down Long Di were red eyes that glowed as if they were two rubies set alight by furious flames.
What was most eye-catching, however, was its stomach area, or rather its entire midsection. That part of its body belched genuine flames that lashed out furiously between bars akin to that of a jail cell. The roaring flames raged in a rhythm that rode the stoke that injected greater life into them.
Some object, super-heated by the flames within to a point where it stole the sun’s glory, made the confines therein its home. Its identity was obscured by the very radiance it boasted.
“A forge?” Long Di quickly made out what this thing personified very quickly. Not only that, it seemed that something was being smelted within.
Every step this mighty being took, caused the ground to tremble. Long Di’s eyes focused on the object being smelted when he realised that most, if not all the weight this being evinced was due to the object it worked on as opposed to its own monstrous frame.
Another thing of note was this thing’s jaw. Oh yeah, that jaw deserved a chapter all its own, but reservations shall be made.
There was no way around it, this jaw was sculpted by the Heavens itself. There was no other explanation. What fool would believe that the amount of Chad energy required to cast this thing came about by coincidence?
Long Di had half a mind to just kowtow in surrender here and now. The jaw bade it so!
Night-like skin, glowing red eyes, a built-in forge and a jawline that made saints weep and devils cry were all features that could only be found in harmony on one life form and one life form alone. This life form was none other than a member of one of the five major races, a Ren'duan.
The Ren'duan opened its mouth to speak, but not before bursts of flames rushed out as if they waited their entire life to find freedom.
It was after this that its voice finally drifted out. “You are blacklisted. Leave or face extermination.”
