Chapter 705: Killing People Openly
Feng Yu couldn’t help feeling a bit dejected, but she nodded to confirm she understood and would come back to this subject at a later time.
We walked further down one of the many beaten paths leading deeper into Thousand Emo Valley. By this time, the sunset-ish look had long disappeared, plunging the landscape in a twilight-esque ambience.
****
“This place is creepy.”
Zi Yu subconsciously huddled closer to Jia Yan, which made the latter visibly annoyed. Something was happening between those two that I refused to comment on.
“That’s what Thousand Emo Valley is known for,” Yaomu Shou said, looking around as well.
“You’ve been here before?” I asked her.
“Do I look like I’ve been here before?” Yaomu Shou snapped.
Okay, rude.
Hmmm… I have this urge to respond to her in kind even though I normally didn’t give a damn. Need to watch that.
“I just asked because you seem to know a lot about the place.” I told her.
“Yeah, because I can read. The family is kinda strict with the educational aspect and all that.”
With that, we went on in silence for a while.
The place got darker as the sun outside the valley was setting.
Eventually, Shen Ling asked out loud. “Why are we here again?”
Zi Yu rolled her eyes at the question.
“To restock. We said it like an hour ago,” stated Zi Yu in an annoyed tone.
Jia Yan pushed her off of him as his annoyance rose. “Don’t talk to apprentice-sister Shen Ling like that!”
Maybe I misread their relationship, but what the heck is happening here?
“Oh, my heavens would you all just shut up!?” Yaomu Shou’s own patience ran thin, causing her to explode. “You all j—”
A hand landed on Yaomu Shou’s face, covering her mouth and cutting her off.
Her eyes widened in shock at what had happened. Due to her status, few were able to speak to her, but now someone dared to cover her mouth!?
It was Feng Yu who stared at her with undisguised disgust. “You’re too loud yourself. Can you not stay quiet?”
Okay, this is not normal. I stopped walking at this point and looked back at everyone who was staring daggers at each other.
“What ju—”
Before I could say anything, Yaomu Shou slapped Feng Yu’s hands away.
“Don’t touch me!” she practically snarled at her. “You can also forget about me telling you anything yourself, you… you mongrel!”
Wow. She’s either a hypocrite or something is very wrong here. I’m inclined to believe the latter.
“Don’t call her a mongrel, you kidnapper!” Jia Yan effectively came to his senior sister’s defence, standing in between Yaomu Shou and Feng Yu.
“What are you doing!?” Jia Yan heard a voice and looked behind him to see Feng Yu glaring at him.
“What do you me—”
“I didn’t ask for your help!” she shrieked at him.
Seems like feminism murdered chivalry. A pity.
“Fine! Do whatever you want then!” he stormed off, shoving Zi Yu and Xiannu Liang while doing so.
This sent the two of them flying into a rage as well.
At this point, I couldn’t remain silent any longer. “My apologies, but did something crawl collectively up between y’all’s butt cheeks, proceed to set up residence there and then forget to pay rent? Why are you all so bitter?”
They all scowled in my direction before lashing out as well. “Shut up!”
Well, I never.
Something was obviously wrong here. There was something here that was causing everyone to lash out for some reason.
Even the Shidashi Mao was starting to infrequently quiver under my touch. I increased the ferocity of my actions to keep it from acting up.
As for everyone else, before I could say anything more, everything came to a head under their rage and inability to deal with their feelings, much like teenagers now that I thought about it.
“You know what? I’m leaving! You guys can do whatever you want!”
“First good idea I’ve heard in a while!”
“I’m gone!”
Before long, the only ones left in the original spot were me, the Shidashi Mao, and Shen Ling.
I looked to the left and to the right, and when I saw the empty spots where my friends and/or acquaintances were, only one question came to mind.
“What the heck just happened?”
“Uhm, senior brother Long, aren’t you gonna try to go after them?” Shen Ling asked after a while.
“No need, I attached a part of my spiritual force onto everyone just in case,” I told her while I ruminated about the recent development.
Her expression immediately changed after hearing this. “When did you do that?”
“A few days ago.”
“When did you learn that?”
“It’s nothing special. I simply have my spiritual force stretched out as they are going about their business being insufferable brain tumours. I am literally looking at you, Jia Yan, Feng Yu, Yaomu Shou, and even Zi Yu at the same time. As the kids say I’m like a stalker on demon time. As you can see, I’m the kind of person that tends to excel.”
“And you did this without our consent… again?”
“Brazenly and unforgivingly.” Honesty is the best policy I always say.
“I don’t thin—”
“Hold that thought,” I cut her off before grabbing her hand and retreating a short distance away.
“Reeeargh!”
Boom!
The Shidashi Mao swiped out at us, digging five huge gashes out of the ground. We were able to dodge in time thanks to my timely reflex. I was only able to do it since I could feel its killing intent leaking before it took action.
Did I have to fight this thing again?
I remained on alert as I stared at this peculiarity of a magical beast. Honestly, if I could help it, I would rather not fight it, since that’s like a whole day.
Nevertheless, choice… didn’t seem to be on my side today.
“Meow…”
Surprisingly, however, it didn’t go off like I thought it would. Instead, it simply sat down and started to lick… erhm, clean itself.
I nearly facepalmed myself with enough force to kill me all over again. How could I forget that cats didn’t like to be overly petted?
“What did you do to tame him? We never did get around to that.” Shen Ling finally asked.
“Oh, I uh… I used to have a cat.”
Man, I miss my best friend. I hope Pebbles is alright.
“I used to scratch him behind the ears and he really liked it,” I told her while remembering those moments myself.
That’s right, you guys. I was able to subdue the Shidashi Mao because I treated it like an ordinary cat. Though its violent tendencies were unlikely to be removed, at least its fangs won’t be pointed at me… mostly.
Then again, with how temperamental cats were, this was pretty much the equivalent of a ticking time bomb.
“I sure hope Pebbles doesn’t get jealous.”
