RHE: RHE + Side Story Complete!

Hey guys,

The translation for Records of the Human Emperor is finally complete! The translation went through some pretty rocky times, what with all the Qidian and Gravity Tales business, but it's finally done! I thought it was a pretty interesting novel, though it seemed like the author had a lot of ideas that he could carry all the way through. For example, it felt like he was initially trying to develop a cultivation system, what with all the root bone stuff, but in the end, moving from cultivation level to cultivation level was just about accumulating a lot of energy. I think with the Grotto Heaven level, there was finally some sense of actual cultivation.

Another thing that was pretty meh about the novel was how so many side characters essentially faded into the background. Anyone remember all the other girls in Wang Chong's life besides Xu Qiqin? Or how about Wang Chong's "best friend" Wei Hao? Obviously, with so many side character, it's inevitable that some characters will fall to the wayside, but it would have been nice if the author had put in a little more effort. There are also problems of what I suppose you could call Chinese cultural superiority, though I suppose that's a problem inherent to many Chinese webnovels.

As for what I liked about the novel, I thought that the multiple-transmigrator angle was very interesting, as was the numerous ancient civilizations being wiped out by the otherworldly invaders. Heaven was also an interesting character, someone who initially starts with good intentions but ultimately despairs, and the author never really told us who could have been so awesome that they managed to seal Heaven. Alas, that is only a secret Wang Chong, who can peer into the river of time, will ever know.
