Special District 9 Chapter 47: Vengeance

On the way to Residence 88, Qin Yu was chatting with Lin Nianlei when the phone in his pocket suddenly rang.

“Hello, Zhu Wei?”

“A huge battle broke out at Dirt Street. There are over a hundred people fighting with one another. Old Li ordered all policemen off-duty to return right away to disperse the crowd and arrest the ringleaders!” Zhu Wei said anxiously.

Qin Yu was surprised for a moment before he murmured, “I knew that the Yuan Family wouldn’t let the matter rest so easily. Wait for me, I’ll return to the bureau right away.”

“Alright.”

The two of them quickly hung up the call. Qin Yu turned to Lin Nianlei and said, “You’ll have to go back alone. Something happened over at Dirt Street, so I need to rush over.”

“Do what you need to do. I can walk back by myself,” Lin Nianlei replied with a nod.

“Hurry back home and don’t go anywhere else. It can get dangerous at night, so take note of your safety.”

“I know. You should hurry over.”

“I’m leaving then.” Knowing that there was no time to trade pleasantries with Lin Nianlei, he quickly turned around and ran all the way to the Police Bureau.

Police Bureau, Platoon 1 working space.

The vice platoon commander had gathered the members of Platoon 1 together for a meeting, but Squad 3 wasn’t informed of this meeting.

Beside the work desk, Ol’ Three looked at the crowd around him and informed them of the directives that he had received, “A huge battle broke out at Dirt Street. The medicine smugglers have gone mad fighting against one another, so they won’t care whether you are just doing your job or not. So, I want all of you to act prudently when we arrive at the scene later on, and don’t play the hero and foolishly charge in.”

“Got it.”

“Understood.”

“…”

The tens of people gathered here listened to Ol’ Three’s words attentively, not showing any expressions on their faces at all. But deep down, they knew clearly what was going on. Those who were causing trouble in Dirt Street were definitely from the Yuan Family, and Ol’ Three was indirectly telling them to go easy on them.

Ol’ Three instructed them on a few other stuff before he placed his cup down and said, “Get the anti-riot gears, and we’ll drive to the scene. Set your walkie talkie channel to our Platoon 1’s frequency. I’ll shout for you if there’s any change in the situation.”

Everyone nodded before quickly leaving the scene.

On the way to the Police Bureau.

Qin Yu was well aware that those causing trouble over at Dirt Street were under the groups headed by the Yuan Family and the Ma Family. So, he was thinking of giving Old Cat a call to discuss how the problem could be resolved.

Di ling ling!

Before he could make the call, his phone rang instead.

“Hello?” Qin Yu received the call.

“Squad leader, there was a meeting for Platoon 1 members earlier, and everyone except our Squad 3 was there. Ol’ Three didn’t inform us about the meeting at all!” Zhu Wei spoke anxiously. “Should we move individually for the operation tonight, or should we follow Platoon 1’s directives?”

Qin Yu pondered for a moment before replying, “Drive Squad 3’s car toward my residence. We’ll talk about it after we meet up.”

“Alright,” Zhu Wei nodded.

“Tell the brothers in the squad that there is no need to panic. It’s good that Ol’ Three didn’t call us there, or else we would have to guard against them from messing things up for us. Just know that if Yuan Ke ever wants to exact vengeance on any of our brothers, I’ll stand before him and take the brunt of the blow.”

Qin Yu knew very well that the reason why Zhu Wei, Guan Qi, and the other brothers in Squad 3 were willing to back him up that day, other than out of trust of his capabilities, was because they knew that Superintendent Li was behind him. That was why they dared to defy Yuan Ke.

It was of utmost importance for Qin Yu to inspire confidence amongst them in him in order to convert them into his own following. For that, it was important for him to reassure them in the face of crisis and reward them whenever it was warranted. It was due to this that the first thing he thought of after getting 30,000 dollars out of Old Ma was to share it with them.

Given the current climate of the world, interpersonal relations took a far more pragmatic tone than before. In order to win the support of others, one would have to ensure that everyone had meat to feast on.

“I understand, squad leader. I’ll head over right now.”

“I’m halfway to the Police Bureau at the moment. Drive faster. You should be able to see me by the roadside.”

“Roger that,” Zhu Wei replied before hanging up the phone.

Qin Yu took a look at his phone before hastening his pace through the cold streets. Just as he was about to dial Old Cat’s number, he suddenly got a feeling that someone was eyeing him.

This was an instinct that Qin Yu developed after spending years in the Development District. So, he immediately turned around to take a look.

By the roadside, a man dressed in a woolen cap and a dirty coat was walking swiftly with a lowered head.

Qin Yu glanced at him before turning his eyes back to his phone.

At that moment, the sound of footsteps behind him became clearer and more hurried.

Qin Yu suddenly turned his head back once more, and the woolen cap man happened to raise his head up at this moment. His hand was inserted into his pocket.

The two of them were currently around ten meters away from one another. Qin Yu’s abrupt twist of his head caused the woolen cap man to be startled for a moment.

At the same time, Qin Yu noticed that there were another two more men walking toward him from the opposite side of the street.

A sense of foreboding gripped Qin Yu’s head.

Shua!

The woolen cap man pulled out a gun from his pocket.

Peng! Huala!

Without any hesitation, Qin Yu tilted his body sideways and rammed his body into the glass window pane of one of the shophouses along the street. As if a bullet, he barged his way into the shophouse along with many shards of glasses.

In the shophouse, four women, who looked very similar to one another, were chatting with one another when the sudden explosion alarmed them. Following that, Qin Yu staggered into their line of sight.

“AH!”

The women released piercing shrieks as they grabbed their heads and rushed upstairs with their inexpensive high-heels and slippers.

Qin Yu didn’t halt his footsteps after entering the house. He swiftly scanned his surroundings before heading straight for the second floor too.

Out in the street, the three fixers stood before the shophouse which Qin Yu had dived into. They decisively raised their guns and began shooting furiously.

Bang bang bang!

Multiple gunshots sounded. Blood gushed from Qin Yu’s body, but he still continued to fumble his way up the stairs desperately.

“Go in, get him!” the woolen cap man ordered coldly.

The two Russian men by the side kicked the door open and charged into the room with a gun in hand.

Over on the second-floor corridor of the shophouse, Qin Yu quickly scanned his surroundings, only to find that the area was completely sealed. There wasn’t even a single window for him to escape from. So, he could only hurriedly kick a door open and dash into the room.

Taking a swift look around the room, Qin Yu leaped up and dragged an old cupboard down with his weight.

Peng! Pudong!

The cupboard fell sideward to the ground. Qin Yu gritted his teeth as he pushed it toward the door with his body so as to seal it off.

After that was done, Qin Yu pressed his body against the cupboard as he panted heavily for a few moments. Then, he began touching his body with his right hand and found that he had suffered a gunshot to his right thigh.

Knowing that he was in a bad situation, Qin Yu quickly fished out his phone and called Zhu Wei.

“Hello?”

“Hurry your ass over! I’m about to be killed!” Qin Yu’s voice was urgent, but his head remained calm and rational. “I am in the middle of Pobi Street, in a shop selling meat that doesn’t have any signboard at the entrance. The windows outside are shattered. There are three enemies… Hurry up!”

Along the corridor, the three fixers were already prowling around with their guns.

Dirt Street.

Due to the Russian man’s provocations, the battle of a hundred men swiftly escalated into a riot of over several hundred people.

Those of the Ma Family didn’t display any hint of intimidation at all. In fact, even without Old Ma saying a word, those middle and lower-tier subordinates, who didn’t have any business recently, had already organized themselves in order to protect their own interests.

Those who were dependent on the medicine route fought ferociously at Dirt Street with their weapons and inferior guns.
