Special District 9 Chapter 41: The Showhand of Three Factions in Dirt Street

Yuan Ke had indeed considered the possibility that he might face some trouble dealing with Old Cat, but he didn’t think that Qin Yu would get involved together with Old Ma and the others.

What did this mean?

It meant that Qin Yu had chosen not to stand his side!

Yuan Ke couldn’t accept this situation, and he felt extremely enraged. He thought that even though he did use Qin Yu, it was still a fact that he had given the latter a chance. Yet, the latter actually betrayed him at this crucial moment!

“Qin Yu, what are you trying to play over there?”

Things had really not been going well for Yuan Ke recently. He suffered the loss of a kin, and they still hadn’t captured the supply route of their rivals yet. As such, he couldn’t maintain his usual amicable front anymore, leaving him with an impatient and cold attitude.

“Platoon Commander Yuan, can we step aside and talk things out?” Qin Yu asked with a smile.

“What is there to talk about? I will take away Qi Lin with me today; this matter is not open for negotiation!” Yuan Ke waved his hand in irritation.

Qin Yu raised his hand to gesture for Old Cat not to blow his top. Then, he looked at Yuan Ke and spoke with a calm voice, “Platoon Commander Yuan, Qi Lin has already suffered too much in this series of affairs. Let’s just let him off, alright?”

“Do you think that you have a say here?” Yuan Ke replied coldly.

“My stance is the same as Old Cat’s. We just hope to bail Qi Lin out of this,” Qin Yu replied softly. “Platoon Commander Yuan, things will not look pretty if we were to really thrash things out over here.”

Yuan Ke was already repressing his fury when he heard the threat inside Qin Yu’s words. That immediately caused him to lose his temper. He raised his hand and struck down.

Pah!

A crisp sound echoed. Before the crowd gathered here, Qin Yu was slapped in his cheek.

“Get your place right! If I hadn’t spoken up for you, do you think that you would have been able to become a squad leader?!” Yuan Ke glared at Qin Yu as he howled furiously. “Even if Old Li comes here today, I’ll still bring Qi Lin away with me. Those who are uninvolved in this yet would do well to know when to get lost!”

The entire field turned silent after those words.

Qin Yu touched his slightly reddened cheek before chuckling quietly to himself. Then, he turned around to look at Old Ma and said, “Help my friend.”

Old Ma was still dressed in his usual dirty military coat. With his hands inserted leisurely in his pocket, he craned his neck around and shouted loudly, “Is there anyone in Dirt Street who recognizes me, Old Ma?”

A few seconds later.

The streets began to shake. Many silhouettes rushed out from the shophouses and the dirty alleys around them. Yuan Ke looked at the massive crowd around, and his complexion turned even more awful. He jabbed his finger in Qin Yu’s chest and asked, “Your guts have turned bold now that you have a backing?”

All it took was a few words for hundreds of armed men with a white cloth tied on their arm to gather along this dimly-lit street. One of the brawny subordinates of the Ma Family that was dressed in a leather jacket walked to the forefront and spat, “Yuan Ke, who cares about what you and your brother want? Fuck you!”

Grave expressions appeared on the dozens of people on Yuan Ke’s side as they saw the massive crowd swarming around them.

Standing leisurely below, Old Ma took out a box of cigarettes as he shouted once more, “Those living in Dirt Street, if you still want your medicine, you better fucking show yourself now. I’ll put the word out right now. As long as our Ma Family manages to stand our ground today, I’ll distribute medicine at zero profit for the next three months!”

As the echoes of his words slowly faded across the street, a loud rumbling of innumerable footsteps echoed along the narrow Dirt Street.

There were many gangs, government officials, and companies that were fighting to maximize their profits, but the ones who were suffering from their battles were the ill and the poor. Due to the fighting going on, they were soon going to be unable to purchase cheap medicine anymore.

Knowing that they were going to lose something that was important to them at this rate, they charged out as soon as they heard Old Ma’s words.

Ol’ Three looked at the scene and subconsciously retreated two steps. He grabbed his walkie talkie and shouted into it, “All brothers who are in the vicinity of Dirt Street, come over right now. We’re at the intersection between Dirt Street and Fortune Street!”

Yuan Ke quickly scanned the crowd rallied by the Ma Family before he turned to Qin Yu and sneered, “You might be able to protect Qi Lin here at Dirt Street, but can he remain here for an entire lifetime? Huh?”

Over at Black Street Sector’s New Epoch Road.

Eight cold-faced, muscular men were carrying cloth bags on their backs. Each of them wore a pair of woolen gloves on their hands. They were approaching two completely empty buildings located far away from the center of Songjiang. Beside those two buildings was a gravesite and a disposal ground used specifically by Black Street Sector. As such, it was rare to see anyone in this area.

“This is the location. Let’s go in,” the leader of the group of eight took a swift look at the surroundings before turning around to order everyone else.

“Are you certain that this is it?”

“Yeah. Tiger got his men to fetch medicine from here previously,” the leader nodded. “Check the area and prepare to start work.”

Five minutes later, in the central area of one of the empty buildings.

Six lads were gathered in a circle, sitting down on chairs, playing cards. The windows within the room had been intentionally nailed shut by wooden panels by them, preventing even the slightest sliver of outside light from peering in. From the outside, it looked like a place where no one lived.

The stifling room was filled with smoke. One of the lads with an e-cigarette in his mouth asked, “Everyone has been called over to Dirt Street. Should we head there to take a look too?”

“Look your head! There are quite a few things going on recently, so the higher-ups have strictly instructed us to stay put and not head anywhere,” another young man replied with a frown. “You all better not find excuses to sneak out over the next few days. Focus on your work.”

“Un, got it!”

Tzzzz!

While they were chatting with another, the light bulb above them started flickering a few times before everything went dark.

“What the hell? Why did the light suddenly go out?”

“Is the generator spoiled again? Diage, take a torchlight and head over to take a look…”

Guangdang!

All of a sudden, a dull thud sounded in the room. Following that, flurried footsteps echoed by the doorway.

“Someone’s here! Quick, take the goods and leave!” the young man seated on the chair rose to his feet and hollered.

Bang bang bang!

But before those in the room could even react, gunshots had already started sounding by the doorway. Dozens of bullets barraged the room, and cries of agony filled the air. In an instant, three of the lads had already fallen dead.

By the doorway, the leader of the assault team turned on his torchlight as he gestured for his companions to stop, “That’s enough. Don’t fire anymore. We need to bring two of them back with us alive.”

Police Bureau.

Superintendent Li was seated in his office as he fiddled inattentively with a teacup. There was a tight knit between his eyebrows.

On the sofa opposite of him, a senator representing the Police Bureaus in politics shook his leg as he asked, “Isn’t it too early for you to make a decision now?”

“Do you think I want to? That idiot Old Cat left me with no choice!” Superintendent Li cursed with a long sigh. “But I guess it’s only a matter of time. Yuan Hua has tried to pull me over to his side many times now, but so far, I have never given him a proper reply… and this in itself could be considered a reply too.”

“The situation will become very chaotic for some time after this,” the senator warned.

“We have already collided over at Dirt Street. It’s too late for regrets now. Let’s just wait for the phone call,” Superintendent Li replied as he took a sip of tea.

In the Majestic Palace Entertainment City.

After hanging up a phone call, Yuan Hua cursed with a darkened face, “That damned Old Ma really thinks that he’s the emperor of Dirt Street. Get all of the men to head over. There’s no need to hold back.”

“If Old Cat is holding his ground so obstinately, does it mean that he has the backing of Superintendent Li on this matter?’ the middle-aged man seated on his left asked with a frown. “If that’s the case, things will get a little complicated.”

Yuan Hua waved his hands and said, “He’s only Superintendent Li if I give him face. Otherwise, he’s nothing at all! No matter what, I’ll get my hands on Qi Lin tonight!”
