Special District 9 Chapter 37: Piercing Through the Sky

Less than ten minutes after the tragic incident occurred, Yuan Ke arrived at the entrance of the villa. There, he saw Tiger and Yuan Wei’s corpse lying on the street, covered in a layer of frozen blood.

There were dozens of people standing along the steps to the villa. Their heads were lowered, and they dared not say a word at all.

With tightly clenched fists, Yuan Wei glared at the crowd and hollered, “Does Qi Lin have six arms? How can the lot of you screw up so badly against a single opponent?”

A short moment of silence later, a middle-aged man who came here with Tiger raised his head and replied, “He came here with the intention to pit his life against us. Even if we had arrived on time and held him down, the situation wouldn’t have been any better. He has already lost his rationality…”

“You useless dimwits! Good-for-nothings!” Yuan Ke’s usual composure was nowhere to be seen. He pointed at the crowd and bellowed, “Scram, all of you! Food is wasted on the likes of you!”

On the street.

Old Cat was driving his car as he hollered furiously, “Holy shit, you really are a dumbass! In the past, you allowed others to slap you again and again without uttering a word of complaint… But as soon as blood rushes to your head, you don’t care about anything anymore, eh?”

Over on the passenger seat, Qi Lin, who was still bleeding profusely from his abdomen, replied feebly, “O-Old Cat… We have been friends… for many years… No matter what, you have to send my mother… and my little sister out of here… I’m begging you.”

“I don’t care. Figure something out yourself,” Old Cat replied with a foul mouth. “I’m not your daddy. Why do I need to do everything for you?”

“I… don’t think I can do it anymore… I have already accepted my fate when I came here,” Qi Lin said. Tears were seeping out of his closed eyes. “Old Cat… if only life has given me even a sliver of hope, I wouldn’t have done that… This darned world…”

Old Cat was silent for a very long while before he punched the steering wheel furiously, “How did things end up like this?”

Over at the back seat, even though Qi Yu was unable to see Old Cat, she had still been pleading all this while, “Brother Cat, please save my older brother. I’m begging you…”

“Sigh!”

Heaving a long sigh, Old Cat took out his phone and dialed a number on his memory.

Several seconds later, the call connected. “Hello? Brother Cat.”

“Where are you?” Old Cat asked.

“I’m dealing at a card game. What’s wrong?”

“I have a friend who was shot. I’m on my way to your place now. Can you handle it?” Old Cat got straight to the point.

The other party was quiet for a while before he asked, “What friend of yours would need me to take care of him? What’s his background?”

“I’m asking you if you can handle it,” Old Cat replied with a frown. “If you can’t, just say it. I won’t make things difficult for you.”

There was another pause before the other party replied clearly, “I’ll head over right now.”

“It’s a gunshot to the abdomen. He needs a doctor right away. Money is not a problem,” Old Cat said.

“Alright.”

“Miao Zhuang, I’ll say this in advance. If you aren’t willing to help, you can feel free to say so. There’s no need for you to feel pressured or anything. However, if you choose to help me but betray me later on, I’ll use everything I have to deal with you from now onward,” Old Cat said with an explicit threat.

“I won’t play any tricks after agreeing to your request. You can put your mind at ease, Brother Cat.”

“I’ll wait for you at the intersection between Dirt Street and Fortune Road. Hurry up.”

“Got it.”

The two of them ended their call there. Old Cat stepped on his pedal before striking Qi Lin’s head forcefully, “I don’t care whether you still want your mother and your little sister or not, but you haven’t repaid the money you owe Qin Yu and me. Damn it! It wasn’t easy for you to finally get up on your own two feet, and you’re going to die like this, huh? Raise your head and talk to me…”

Police Bureau, Platoon 1’s working area.

Qin Yu, who had been waiting for news all this while, saw Zhu Wei running in from outside, and he immediately raised his hand and shouted, “Here!”

Spotting Qin Yu, Zhu Wei quickly ran over.

Qin Yu took a look at the surroundings before he pushed open the door to the emergency staircase and dragged Zhu Wei in. “Have you gotten a grasp on the situation yet?”

“Y-yes…” Zhu Wei gulped down a mouthful of saliva before he raised his head to look at Qin Yu. “It’s Qi Lin.”

“What’s wrong with him?”

“He… He killed six people over at the New Epoch Road, and the victims include Yuan Ke’s little uncle, Tiger, and a few of their subordinates,” Zhu Wei replied with a slight stutter.

Qin Yu was astonished. It took a long while before he snapped out of it and continued asking, “Are you sure? Are you certain that Qi Lin was the one who did it?”

“I didn’t believe it when they told me either!” Zhu Wei replied with an equally astounded look on his face. “But I called Ol’ Three and asked him, and he personally told me that it really was Qi Lin. There are more than a hundred people gathered at New Epoch Road right now, and they are all the brothers of Yuan Ke’s older brother… Our Police Bureau has also sent some men down too. Things have really blown up…”

“No… This can’t be right… Qi Lin has killed six people?” Qin Yu was still finding it hard to grapple with what he had just heard.

“There’s no doubt about it. Ol’ Three wouldn’t joke about something like this, and he’s heading over right now too.”

“The hell… Qi Lin has really gone berserk this time around…” Qin Yu muttered with a dumbfounded look on his face. “He’s gotten himself in deep shit this time.”

“I know Qi Lin quite well. He’s so cowardly that he doesn’t even dare to stand in the frontline in operations… and yet, he did something so ridiculous all of a sudden?” Zhu Wei was unable to make sense of the situation. He turned to Qin Yu and asked, “Should we head over to New Epoch Road too? After all, Platoon Commander Yuan has made a move too.”

There were a few seconds of silence before Qin Yu waved his hand and said, “I don’t intend to go, and I advise you not to do so either.”

“Why?”

“Do you know what’s going on at the moment?” Qin Yu asked with a frown.

Zhu Wei shook his head.

“Then you should watch the situation first. Don’t rush to get involved in it.”

“…!” Zhu Wei pondered over those words before nodding. “Alright, I’ll listen to you.”

Dawn, four o’clock.

Qin Yu was taking a short nap in the dormitory when he suddenly received a call from Old Cat.

“Hello?” Qin Yu immediately sat up to receive the call.

“Don’t make a fuss. Come out. I’ll meet at the alley behind the bureau,” Old Cat said concisely.

Qin Yu contemplated for a moment before replying, “I’ll be right there.”

“Un.”

The two of them ended their call there. Qin Yu quickly took his coat and left Squad 3’s dormitory room.

At the same time.

In Dirt Street’s Majestic Palace Entertainment City, there was a man dressed in a white shirt and a pair of formal pants. He was sitting on a sofa, sipping on tea.

He was Yuan Ke’s older brother, Yuan Hua.

Yuan Hua was 48 this year, and he was slightly plump in figure. However, he had a very refined and scholarly appearance, which was further reinforced by his fair complexion.

“I didn’t think that we would mess up at Qi Lin,” the middle-aged man seated left to Yuan Hua said. “Tiger has always put on a fiercer front than everyone else, but he couldn’t even protect Little Wei during a crucial moment.”

Yuan Hua nonchalantly folded his sleeves upward before slowly grabbing the cigarette box. He didn’t appear to be paying any heed to his talking friend at all.

A series of footsteps sounded below, and Zaka, who barely managed to escape from the villa with his life back then, entered the room with an anxious look on his face.

Pudong!

He kneeled onto the ground and cried, “Brother Hua, Brother Hua… I… I failed you.”

“It’s fine, everyone makes mistakes,” Yuan Hua said as he waved his hand lightly. “Come over, I want to ask you something.”

Zaka rose to his feet and walked over to Yuan Hua’s side with timid steps. With a deep bow, he asked, “Brother Hua, please speak.”

“What do I need you for?” Yuan Hua looked up and asked.

Zaka was stunned to hear those words.

“You are useless, but you spend my money and eat my food. What should I do with you?” Yuan Hua continued.

Zaka’s face immediately turned ghastly pale.

Bang!

Yuan Hua suddenly took out a gun from beneath the table and pulled the trigger against Zaka’s chest.

The blood spurted five feet away as Zaka fell frontward to the ground.

Yuan Hua flung away the blood droplets on his white shirt before shouting nonchalantly toward the people in the room, “There are two problems surrounding Qi Lin now. One is the supply route, and the second is a matter of face. My uncle has died in his hands. I hope you all darned well know what to do.”

Leaving those words behind, Yuan Hua stood up and left. The unlucky Zaka had his body dragged down the stairs by four men. The bloodstains on the ground didn’t even last for a minute before everything was reverted back to the clean and pristine state it was before.

At the back alley of the Police Bureau, Qin Yu met with Old Cat.
