Chapter 673: When the Rain Continues
Eight o’clock at night.
At the entrance of an apartment under Fengbei’s Prosperous Dragon Pharmaceuticals, Yong Dong was sitting in a jeep with a composed look on his face. He was silently smoking a cigarette as he waited patiently.
By the side of the road, Xiao Jiu, together with a few other people, were currently discussing with a hushed voice. None of them approached Yong Dong to talk to him.
After waiting for a while longer, Baldie finally walked out of the building over to Yong Dong’s car and said, “Yong Dong, take this call.”
Yong Dong stretched his hand forth to take Baldie’s phone and said, “Hello?”
“Yong Dong, I’ll be going today as well,” Yuan Hua said. “As soon as Xing Zihao appears, I’ll bring you back right away.”
Yong Dong was slightly surprised. A smile crept on his lips as he replied, “I trust you.”
“I’ll have Baldie keep an eye out for you. Nothing will happen to you.”
“Alright, I’ll follow your plan,” Yong Dong nodded with a smile. “See you.”
Before waiting for Yuan Hua’s reply, Yong Dong had already hung up the phone before returning it back to Baldie.
“You don’t need to worry. We’re bringing 20 capable men with us for the operation tonight, and Old Yuan will be there himself too,” Baldie said as he received his phone. He took out a wireless microphone from his pocket and clipped it on Yong Dong’s collar, instructing, “When you meet them later on, don’t panic. If they try to take you away, you should request to meet Xing Zihao first. Try to delay them as long as possible. If it doesn’t work out, it’s fine if you go with them too. We’ll make sure to follow you by hook or by crook. As soon as any of them appears, we’ll make a move right away.”
Yong Dong turned to Baldie and said in a joking tone, “Bro, if I were to lose my life here, you must make sure to live well.”
Baldie was a little taken aback by the abrupt words.
“Of us, the old guards, Old Yuan favors you the most. Heh. If I were to die, you’ll have at least two more companies in your hands,” Yong Dong teased with a relaxed demeanor. “Well, just make sure to burn incense for me. After all, I’m fulfilling you over here!”
“Yong Dong, what do you mean by this?” Baldie asked with a frown as he adjusted Yong Dong’s collar to hide the microphone. “We’re brothers who have been through tough times together. I know we have our fair share of arguments over the years, but do you really think that I would wish you harm?”
“If you wish me well, why didn’t you argue with Old Yuan to stop him from having me step on this landmine?” Yong Dong asked.
“…!” Baldie was at a loss for words.
The two of them stared at one another silently for a while before Yong Dong smiled. He patted Baldie’s shoulder and said, “Alright, I’m just joking with you. You don’t have to get so serious. Hahaha! My life is in your hands tonight, so you must make sure to protect me well.”
Baldie turned his head away to conceal the apologetic expression on his face. Then, he clapped his hands and shouted, “Everyone, gather! I’ll just say a thing or two before we set off!”
…
In the building.
Yuan Hua put on his coat as he spoke through the phone, “Yes, the other party hasn’t given me the location yet. I’m still waiting for their news.”
“Old Yuan, things have already come to this point. There’s nothing more important than my son coming back safely right now,” Fatty Xing spoke threateningly. “My son’s fate will determine your company’s fate. I hope that you know what is best for you.”
“I understand,” Yuan Hua nodded.
“My men will be there in a moment’s time,” Fatty Xing said before hanging up the phone.
Yuan Hua’s hand fell by his side as he heaved a deep sigh. All of a sudden, he felt that the cotton shirt he had put on felt as if it had been laden with lead. “Take everything we need. We’ll be gathering downstairs now!”
…
On a road in the vicinity of the military training field.
After Ma Lao-er and Liu Zishu were placed in the car, the soldier finally turned to Qin Yu and said, “You all will have to find a way to get out of Fengebei by yourself. I’m not going to bother anymore.”
“Ah, it’s alright. We have our own plans,” Qin Yu replied with a nod. “Once you get out of Fengbei, drive in the direction of Three Snags. I’ve already demarcated the location for you on the map. The people who will be receiving Ma Lao-er and Liu Zishu are from Jiangzhou, and they’ll identify themselves as ‘Coco’s friends’. You can hand these two over to them.”
“Alright, I’ll do as you say,” the soldier replied.
“I’ll be counting on you to take care of them on the road.”
“No problem,” the soldier replied before he got onto the car.
Outside the car, Old Ma, cloaked in a military coat, looked at Ma Lao-er calmly as he instructed, “When you arrive there, don’t trouble the other party too much, right?”
“Uncle… when will you all return?” Ma Lao-er asked.
“Latest by the day after tomorrow,” Old Ma said as he patted Ma Lao-er’s forehead. With a slight smile, he teased, “Looks like it wasn’t all in vain. At least you know how to care for me now.”
Lying inside the car, Ma Lao-er held onto Old Ma’s collar as he turned to Qin Yu and shouted over, “Bro, my uncle is already getting on his age… Please take care of him.”
Hearing those words, a hint of reluctance flickered across Qin Yu’s eyes before he replied with a smile, “Your uncle is a veteran on the street. I’m still counting on him to take care of me.”
“Alright, you should go now,” Old Ma told the soldier.
“Uncle, I’ll be waiting for you in Jiangzhou,” Liu Zishu shouted.
Old Ma smiled at the duo in the car before closing the door.
The engine whirred into life, and the car began cruising into the distance.
Inside the car, Ma Lao-er lay on the seat as he glanced at the back of the car, muttering, “Zishu… I have never realized it before, but our old man… he has really gotten old.”
“Aren’t you talking nonsense? Look at how old he is!”
“No, it’s not about his age,” Ma Lao-er shook his head. “He told me a lot of things over the last two days. He’s a lot more talkative than he usually is. He has never been like that before…”
At the intersection.
Qin Yu looked at the crowd around him and glanced at his watch before saying, “Let’s set off too.”
…
At the bottom of the apartment.
While Yuan Hua was waiting on the car, he suddenly received a message on his phone.
“2030, at the northern area of Nanyuan Residential Area, beneath the border signage. I want to see Yong Dong there.”
Yuan Hua took two looks at the message before he lowered his car window and said, “Baldie, bring one of our local brothers over here.”
Some time later, Baldie brought a young lad over and asked, “What’s wrong?””
Yuan Hua turned to the young lad and asked, “What kind of place is the Nanyuan Residential Area? Is there a large border signage there?”
The young lad pondered for a moment before replying, “It’s located in the suburbs of Fengbei. Around 5 kilometers away from Nanyuan is the border leading to the Development District.”
Hearing those words, Yuan Hua immediately instructed Baldie, “The trade will happen there. Hurry up and finish up the preparations.”
“Got it,” Baldie replied.
…
Prosperous Dragon Pharmaceuticals’ company building.
Fatty Xing, Peter, his second son, and a few other people were rushing out of the company building hurriedly.
“Dad, are you going as well?” the second son asked.
“Your younger brother’s life is hanging by a thread. How can I not be there?” Fatty Xing replied with a frown. “Hurry up and dispatch the people you found over too. I don’t feel safe leaving this matter to Yuan Hua to handle.”
“Alright,” the second son replied before taking out his phone.
Roughly ten minutes later, along a certain street in Fengbei, four cars began making their way toward Nanyuan Residential Area.
Just like that, a trade with a predetermined conclusion began.
