You Qi knelt on the ground. Slowly, his gaze moved to the lake. He frowned as if he couldn’t figure something out.

“Brother,” Shi Liaozhi said, “Share your thoughts. Perhaps we can help.” Chen Qiang and Qin Jian moved over. They surrounded the spot where the sedan chair stopped yesterday night. Soon, Chen Qiang’s eyes changed. Then, Qin Jian saw the problem as well. He suddenly knelt down and stared at a fixed spot.

“What… is that?”

“It… looks like some kind of footprint.” Shi Liaozhi’s tone was uncertain because the imprint was too strange. It was oval in shape and quite small. It was not an animal footprint. You Qi stood up and stomped around the imprint. He was large and muscular. He stomped heavily. However, he only managed to leave behind a clear footprint. The strange imprint was deeper than You Qi’s footprint.

A bad feeling rose in their hearts.

“There… there’s more over there!” Shi Liaozhi saw another imprint with his good eyesight. The other spot was obscured by other people’s footprints. Thankfully, the imprint was deep enough that it could still be seen. They followed the series of imprints and came to the lakeside. The last imprint was left in the mud.

You Qi blinked. The bad feeling in his heart became real. “Those imprints… started at the sedan chair, right?” You Qi’s throat trembled before he forced the words out.

The next second, someone realised what the sharp and small imprints were. The realisation spread like a disease. Everyone turned to look at where the sedan chair was the night before. Even Chen Qiang, who hid his emotions well, felt a chill run up his spine.

They were footprints left behind by ancient lady’s shoes. Since ladies from ancient China had foot-binding cultures, their shoes were also called three-inch lotuses. They checked the imprints and realised they were about three inches.

“The paper doll in the sedan chair also had its feet bound,” You Qi said. It was hard to imagine a large man could be this frightened. His lips trembled, “I saw it…”
