I’ll Take That Opportunity Chapter 4 - The Stellar Method

The next morning, Ye Lin got out of bed, staring at the five low-grade Spirit Stones on the bed with a pensive look.

“If I exchange these Spirit Stones for a cultivation method, I’ll only have four left. But with a cultivation method, I might be able to break through to the 5th layer Qi Refinement stage.” Ye Lin muttered to himself.

He clenched his fist, pocketed the Spirit Stones, and then headed for the door.

Outside, Ye Lin immediately noticed Zhang Liang standing some distance away, flanked by a group of handyman disciples. The scene was all too familiar.

The old handyman disciples were sharp and not easily exploited, making it challenging for the team leaders to take advantage of them. In contrast, new handyman disciples were prime targets for free labor, often ordered around by the team leaders.

After a brief glance, Ye Lin paid them no mind. It was clear that Zhang Liang was here once again in search of free labor.

“I wonder how I’d fare against Zhang Liang in a fight.” Ye Lin muttered to himself.

Both he and Zhang Liang were at the 3rd layer Qi Refinement stage. While a surprise ambush from Zhang Liang would be deadly, in a direct fight, his chances of winning were still slim—after all, Zhang Liang was already a seasoned 3rd layer Qi Refinement powerhouse.

But as his thoughts wandered, a translucent panel appeared before his eyes.

[Name: Zhang Liang]

[Cultivation base: 3rd layer Qi Refinement]

[Fate grade: white (damaged)]

[Fate trait: ordinary luck, astonishing bladesmenship]

[Fate prediction: in half a year, while accompanying outer disciples on a devil subjugation, a 5th layer Qi Refinement deviant devil will drain all your lifeblood, and you will die.]

[Upcoming opportunity: tonight, after completing your final point collection, you will visit the Scripture Pavilion to select a cultivation method. By chance, you will discover the low-grade mystic-tier cultivation method Stellar Method beneath the third cabinet. This will enable you to break through your decade-long bottleneck, reaching the 4th layer Qi Refinement stage.]

[Astonishing bladesmanship: you possess exceptional talent for the blade, progressing rapidly along the path of bladesmanship.]

[Ordinary luck: your luck is slightly higher than that of ordinary people.]

Looking at Zhang Liang's upcoming opportunity, Ye Lin couldn’t help but feel a twinge of envy. This guy seemed to stumble into one opportunity after another, while he himself had received nothing of the sort.

"Fate grade really is a wondrous thing." Ye Lin murmured.

But as he continued reading, his expression shifted. Zhang Liang’s minor luck fate trait had transformed into ordinary luck. Perhaps this was the only opportunity he had left.

“It seems seizing another’s opportunity is the same as stealing their luck.” He muttered under his breath.

Luck—an intangible yet undeniable force. It dictated victories in battles, the survival of individuals, and even the rise and fall of dynasties and sects.

“Well then, Zhang Liang, your opportunity is mine now.” Ye Lin resolved silently before making his way toward the Scripture Pavilion.

A low-grade mystic-tier cultivation method—such a treasure was invaluable. Even the mighty Azure Cloud Sect, the overlord in the surrounding area, had only a single mid-grade mystic-tier cultivation method in its possession.

Arriving at the Scripture Pavilion, Ye Lin gazed up at the towering structure, its classic design exuding an air of ancient wisdom. For a moment, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe. Taking a deep breath, he lifted his foot and stepped forward.

“What’s your business here?”

At that moment, a figure stepped out of the Scripture Pavilion. Dressed in a luxurious attire, he carried himself with an air of pride and aloofness, his gaze sharp and imposing.

“Senior Disciple Brother, I’ve come to select a cultivation method.” Ye Lin said.

Hearing this, Zhao Hu raised an eyebrow. His expression flickered briefly with surprise before twisting into disdain. A handyman disciple? Here to select a cultivation method? Surely, this had to be a joke.

“Show me your token so I can check your points.” Zhao Hu said, extending a hand.

The points earned from completing tasks were recorded in a disciple’s token.

Ye Lin remained calm, “Senior Disciple Brother, I’ve heard that Spirit Stones can be exchanged for points.”

As he spoke, he reached into his clothing and withdrew five low-grade Spirit Stones, holding them out for Zhao Hu to see.

Zhao Hu’s eyebrows furrowed slightly as he stared at the shimmering stones. A handyman disciple possessing Spirit Stones? That was unusual. He scrutinized Ye Lin for a moment but decided not to dwell on it. While most handyman disciples were mortals, occasionally, one or two came from families with minor influence or hidden background.

“All right, what’s your name?” Zhao Hu asked, tucking away the Spirit Stones and retrieving a worn ledger.

“Ye Lin.” He replied calmly.

Zhao Hu scribbled in the ledger before giving a curt nod, “You may enter. Remember, you only have the time it takes an incense stick to burn to make your choice, so don’t dawdle.”

“Thank you, Senior Disciple Brother.” Ye Lin nodded before stepping into the Scripture Pavilion.

Inside the pavilion, the air was heavy with the scent of aged wood and parchment. Rows upon rows of wooden cabinets stood in neat lines, each filled with books. These shelves held low-grade basic-tier secret methods.

Higher-grade cultivation methods were housed in the inner sect’s Scripture Pavilion—a place Ye Lin could only dream of accessing for now.

Without wasting time, Ye Lin made his way to the third cabinet. Squatting down, he felt about with his hand, searching. Moments later, his fingers brushed against something. His eyes lit up as he carefully pulled out a slightly yellowed book.

But when he opened it, his excitement faltered.

“Why is it the Tiger Method? That’s not right.” Ye Lin muttered, his brows furrowing.

He scrutinized the book before setting it upright on the ground, and then gave it a gentle tap. A crisp click echoed as a hidden compartment slid open.

“It worked,” Ye Lin whispered, his heart racing.

Suppressing his excitement, Ye Lin swiftly returned the compartment to its place, then grabbed the book and headed out.

“Senior Disciple Brother, I’m done,” Ye Lin said as he approached Zhao Hu, who sat cross-legged, meditating.

Zhao Hu glanced at Ye Lin before speaking, “According to sect rules, you have one month to comprehend the cultivation method. After that, you must return the book intact. Furthermore, spreading its contents to others is strictly forbidden. If you violate this rule, not only will you face death, but everyone in your family or village will share your fate. Do you understand?”

When Zhao Hu finished speaking, Ye Lin nodded silently, his eyes narrowing with determination. Without another word, he turned and left the Scripture Pavilion

[Name: Zhao Hu]

[Cultivation base: 5th layer Qi Refinement]

[Fate grade: white (ordinary)]

[Fate trait: none (ordinary, nothing noteworthy)]

[Fate prediction: by chance, you will discover a secret of an inner elder, which will ultimately lead to your death.]

[Upcoming opportunity: in four days, frustrated by being stuck at the 5th layer Qi Refinement stage for a year, you will visit Emerald Ripple Lake to relax. While preparing to swim, you will find a high-grade basic-tier sword at the lake’s bottom. This weapon will significantly enhance your combat power, enabling you to contend against 6th layer Qi Refinement experts.]

As Ye Lin walked toward his residence, he looked at the panel in front of him. Yes, this was Zhao Hu's panel.

“A high-grade basic-tier sword?” Ye Lin murmured, “If I can obtain it, my strength will rise dramatically.”

The thought filled him with anticipation. His lips curled into a faint smirk, “At the handyman competition in half a month, Zhang Liang won’t stand a chance.”

Back at his residence, Ye Lin carefully locked the door and secured the windows. Only then did he take out the Stellar Method. Sitting cross-legged, he began to study it meticulously, absorbing its teachings bit by bit.

Time passed in a blur.

By the time Ye Lin closed the book, half a day had flown by. A satisfied glint appeared in his eyes.

Thanks to his transcendental perception fate trait, he had grasped the cultivation method’s essence in just a few hours. Without hesitation, he retrieved his remaining four Spirit Stones and began cultivating.

Time flew by as Ye Lin immersed himself in cultivation. The once-vibrant Spirit Stone gradually dulled, its essence drained. Finally, on the second day, Ye Lin exhaled a long breath of turbid air and opened his eyes.

“Phew, not bad” He muttered, glancing at the depleted Spirit Stone in his hand.

The Stellar Method was everything it promised to be. His cultivation had progressed at twice the speed with half the effort. The spirit qi was absorbed efficiently, leaving nothing wasted.

During these two days, Zhang Liang hadn’t come to bother him. With over 8,000 handyman disciples in the Azure Cloud Sect, it was unlikely the handyman team leaders would target the same group repeatedly. After all, overexploiting a single group could provoke unrest, which would bring them more trouble than it was worth.

Besides, with the handyman competition just half a month away, everyone was preoccupied with their own preparations. Their priority was securing their positions; other matters could wait until after the competition.
