I’ll Take That Opportunity Chapter 36 - Obtaining The Nirvana Fruit

After over half an hour of searching, the group reconvened, empty-handed. Only corpses remained. Not a trace of the deviant devils.

Ye Lin, concealed by the Concealment Bead, stood silently atop a rooftop, scanning the surroundings.

“Wait, where are those two brats—Ye Lin and Wu Gang?” The burly man looked at the four before him and asked.

“We’re not sure either.”

“Help!”

A sudden scream pierced the air. Their expressions shifted instantly, and the five of them rushed toward the source.

Meanwhile, Ye Lin moved swiftly across rooftops.

They found Wu Gang in a nearby courtyard—already dead. His severed head floated midair, blood dripping onto the stone ground.

Drip. Drip. Drip.

The chilling sound of blood drops falling, paired with the gruesome sight, filled the group with dread.

“Who… who did this?” Rage twisted the burly man’s face.

They hadn’t even seen the enemy, and already, a fellow inner disciple had been slain.

“Senior Disciple Brother Long, I think we should retreat. This place… something’s wrong.” A trembling voice broke the silence.

“Nonsense!” Long Aotian snapped, “We cultivators exist to subjugate demons and devils. If we flee now, can you face your conscience?”

The disciple fell silent, looking ashamed

“Is… is that a deviant devil?” Ye Lin, perched on a rooftop, narrowed his eyes toward a corner beyond the courtyard.

There, a creature stood—its body etched with black-purple markings, crowned with black horns. Its limbs bristled with fang-like protrusions, and a black-purple crystal glowed in its chest. Its mouth, full of jagged fangs, opened slightly.

Thanks to the Concealment Bead, the deviant devil hadn’t noticed Ye Lin.

“Let’s see if you’ve got a panel.” Ye Lin narrowed his eyes and muttered to himself.

A transparent panel appeared before him, drawing a satisfied smile to his lips.

[Name: Mo Yi]

[Clan: devil clan]

[Cultivation base: mid-stage Foundation Establishment]

[Fate grade: blue]

[Fate trait: Ancient Devil Bloodline]

[Fate prediction: after devouring tens of thousands of people, you will break through to the Gold Core realm and become a great devil wreaking havoc across a wide region. Eventually, you will be slain by a grand elder of the Azure Cloud Sect and a grand elder of the Heavenly Sword Sect, though they will suffer grave injuries.]

[Upcoming opportunity: after devouring twenty inner disciples, you will flee to Hundred Break Mountain. At its base, you’ll discover a spirit spring, beneath which you will find high-grade mystic-tier treasures—Ice Soul Needles.]

[Ancient Devil Bloodline: the blood of an ancient great devil flows through your veins. Within the same cultivation realm, you are nearly invincible.]

Ye Lin scratched his chin, “Hundred Break Mountain… So this is the deviant devil that knocks Lin Zisheng off the cliff in a month?”

A cold grin spread across his face, “Well then, since I know what’s coming, I’ll just take Lin Zisheng’s opportunities for myself.”

He had previously avoided the Hundred Break Mountain, wary of lurking deviant devils. Now that he had identified the threat, his fear vanished.

Just then, the deviant devil exploded into motion, a blur of black-purple light charging into the courtyard.

“Who’s there?!”

Long Aotian roared, about to turn around—only to be decapitated in the next instant.

The other four followed swiftly, slaughtered without resistance. The deviant devil moved with such ferocity that they stood no chance. In less than ten seconds, all five were dead.

Mo Yi crouched over the corpses and began draining their blood. In mere moments, the bodies shriveled into dry husks.

“Delicious... Human blood is just as exquisite as ever.” A look of ecstasy crossed Mo Yi’s face.

At that moment, a black-robed figure rushed in through the gate, face hidden beneath a hood, “My Lord, all preparations outside are complete. Please give your orders.”

“Excellent. Once I’m done here, I’ll grant you longevity.” Mo Yi looked at the black-robed person approvingly.

But inwardly, he sneered, “Pathetic humans, so quick to abandon their morals for a taste of longevity.”

“Thank you, My Lord! Thank you!” The man cried, falling to his knees and kowtowing repeatedly.

From the rooftop, Ye Lin watched the entire scene unfold.

Without hesitation, he turned and headed back toward the Azure Cloud Sect.

“No... Everyone who went died. If I return unharmed, the sect will definitely suspect me.”

Ye Lin suddenly halted. Gritting his teeth, he raised his hand and struck himself in the chest, forcing out a mouthful of blood. He disheveled his hair and robes, and then sprinted toward the sect.

“Isn’t… isn’t that Senior Disciple Brother Ye? What happened?!”

Ye Lin arrived at the sect, clutching his chest, blood at the corners of his mouth. He looked as if he might collapse any second.

The outer disciples rushed forward, alarmed.

“Quick... Take me to the Sect Master... Something terrible has happened...” Ye Lin gasped, his voice weak.

One disciple carried him to the Inner Sect Great Hall. Inside, the Sect Master frowned upon seeing him.

“You were part of the devil subjugation team. What happened? Where are the others?” The Sect Master asked sharply, showing no concern for Ye Lin’s injuries.

“Re... reporting, Sect Master. The deviant devil we encountered was it the Foundation Establishment realm. We stood no chance. At the critical moment, the Senior Disciple Brothers fought the deviant devil with their lives on the line, allowing me to escape and report back to the sect.”

“Foundation Establishment realm?” The Sect Master’s frown deepened.

“I see. Take this—mid-grade, basic-tier Restoration Pill. It’ll help your recovery. Go and rest.”

The Sect Master handed him a pill and walked off, face grim.

“Thank you, Sect Master.” Ye Lin bowed deeply. Only after the Sect Master had left did he limp back to his residence.

Once inside, with the door securely shut, he swallowed the Restoration Pill and sat down to meditate.

To make his act convincing, Ye Lin had used 60% of his strength in that self-inflicted blow, nearly causing internal injuries.

Three hours passed. He let out a slow breath. Although it was only a mid-grade basic-tier pill, it had done pretty good work. His injuries were mostly healed.

“Now I can seize Lin Zisheng’s opportunities. First, I’ll head to Hundred Break Mountain and claim the two opportunities there. After that, it’s off to Huangjin City. Perfect—none of them overlap.”

After some thought, Ye Lin stepped into the courtyard and unearthed the phoenix egg. Its breath of life force was now clearly pulsing.

“I wonder if the Nirvana Fruit will work...”

He muttered to himself, then placed the spirit fruit gently atop the phoenix egg.
