Horror Game Designer Chapter 468: Real Interview

The interviewers from Mo Tu Tech were very direct. Perhaps they were testing the interviewees’ resistance to stress. This was Gao Ming’s first time encountering a situation like this. He instantly clammed up. He wasn’t one who fought back with words. He often used his fists in the dream.

“You have the potential to make horror games. Your passion will lead you to success. Unfortunately, our company temporarily does not need a talent like you. We’re sorry.” The other interviewer said. The meaning was clear. Gao Ming’s first interview ended with failure.

“I wanted to recreate the fragments from my nightmare. It looks like this gaming company won’t be able to help me.” Gao Ming didn’t give up. He attended many different interviews that morning but he was rejected by all of them. Gao Ming turned to his backup choices. There were many occupations that he hadn’t even heard of before.

“The salary for this haunted house worker is very high. The admin says the workload at night is low. I can use that time to work on my own programs.” Gao Ming followed the website to find the location of Jiujiang’s New Century Themepark. After he keyed in his information, Gao Ming was invited into a video room. The room with the old wooden table looked eerie. A lot of misshapen mannequins were piled up in the corner. Beside them were unopened paint cans.

“Hello. Is anyone there?” Gao Ming talked to the speaker. He saw a doll hanging on the corner of the table. The small doll was trying its best to crawl onto the table. However, due to Gao Ming’s gaze, it started to play dead.

“Strange. Why would I think that a ragdoll is playing dead?” Gao Ming zoomed in on the video. He felt like the doll was sweating bullets.

A few seconds later, a middle-aged man walked into the room. He sighed helplessly when he saw the open monitor. “Are you trying to interview people again?” It was unclear whom he was talking to. He picked up the doll and then placed it in his embrace.

“Hello. I’m the work leader of this haunted house. You can call me Ol’ Zhou.” Compared to the company interviewers, Ol’ Zhou was very kind and friendly.

“Brother Zhou, hello. I wish to interview for the night-time position…”

“Nightshift?” Ol’ Zhou was shocked. “Never mind. Please continue.”

“I’ve sent you my basic information. I have a bit of understanding of horror as well.” Gao Ming started to share his thoughts.

“Your information matches us very well. I also hope you can join us, but there are two things I need to confirm first.” Ol’ Zhou pressed his hands on the table and leaned into the camera. “One, which level of horror do you think your body can withstand?”

Considering the nightmare he had been through, Gao Ming answered confidently, “Any level.”

“Oh. We have a confident man here.” Ol’ Zhou was very satisfied. “The second question is key. You have to answer honestly. Do you believe we have ghosts in this world?”

Gao Ming narrowed his eyes. He eventually nodded. “Yes.”

“That’s a shame because there is no ghost in this world.” Ol’ Zhou looked sad. “Our haunted house uses the latest technology to create realistic ghosts and atmosphere. Therefore, if you believe in the presence of ghosts, you might be drawn into it, and we don’t want that.” After going through Gao Ming’s info, Ol’ Zhou looked conflicted, “You are a rare talent. However, I can’t break the rules for you. How about this? Pay attention to your phone. I’ll ask the boss when he’s back. If he agrees, we’ll contact you.”

“Your boss?”

“He’s out for a business trip.”

A phone call could be made easily, so Gao Ming believed this was Ol’ Zhou rejecting him nicely.

“Alright.” Gao Ming understood the man’s concern. After all, with his current condition, he might faint at the haunted house. That would cause them a lot of trouble.

“You have to make sure your phone is always on. If our boss can’t contact you, he might go to find you in person. He’s very determined.”

Gao Ming didn’t take note of it as he exited the video. He attempted a few other interviews. Some asked him to provide a notice of his mental state. Others asked him to go to an abandoned alley at midnight for the interview. The more Gao Ming went through this process, the more tired he felt.

“Is the job market that bad now?”

There was only one option left in Gao Min’s notebook: the beta tester for the Immortal Pharma Brain Realm game.

One didn’t need to attend an interview for this job. One only needed to fill in a form on the website. If one were selected, one would be notified to go to Immortal Pharma to attend the offline interview.

“I can’t find any information on the internet. Apparently, the test received by everyone is different.” Gao Ming patiently filled in the form. He was very serious since this was his last chance.

“I’ll have to wait now. If I can join the beta test, I sure can earn a lot of money with this broken brain of mine.”

At 5 pm, Gao Ming heard a knock on the door. He didn’t think people would find him at this hour. A lot of horrible images entered his mind. The horror triggered his nerves. He picked up the fruit knife and tensed his muscles. He slunk to the door. “Who is it?”

Gao Ming became more nervous when he heard no reply. He hid the knife behind him as he slowly turned the doorknob.

Gao Ming saw a fluffy kitten meowing through the gap in the door. It paced around on its stubby legs.

“A cat?”

The kitten seemed to be scared of Gao Ming. It ran away from him and went to Liu Yi, who was hiding. She had with her two bags of groceries.
“I got off work early today.” Liu Yi smiled when she saw the kitten exposing her. “You used to say we’d get a cat after we move. However, I think we can keep a cat even if we haven’t moved. My friend gave me this kitten.”

Liu Yi came back early because she was worried about Gao Ming. The kitten was to keep him company.

“Let’s give it a name.” Liu Yi walked to the door. The kitten ran around her shoes.

“How about Fa Cai?” Gao Ming uttered, and his heart jumped. “I have two very powerful friends in the nightmare. One is called Fa Cai. I can’t remember the other one.”
